UN women's rights resolution passed despite backlash

The analogy is not apt. Saying one shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house is supposed to be a way of expressing that you yourself have similar problems to the person you are criticizing. No reasonable person would claim the United States has a sinister record on women or childrens rights.

Well... one could also claim that allowing religious groups to hide behind religious freedom and continue to abuse children on an industrial scale is sinister. As for women's rights, the fact that some states are putting women on trial for murder because they aborted their baby due to "abuse" of some kind.. is just as sinister. Or having a history of executing children. Like it or not the US is far from perfect, and while it is better than many of the countries that opposed this, it should not be flaunting its superiority on the subject till it fixes some issues in its own house.. which includes ratification of this and similar conventions.

That treaty ratification has been held up because of American political inertia is distinct from how it actually conducts itself on these issues. It is perfectly legitimate and laudable for the United States to join in international criticism of countries who sanction, protect, or excuse the kind of behavior expressed in the OP's article.

Is it now? The fact that you dont ratify treaties you sign shows a clear disdain for the content of that treaty..

The UN is a glaring exercise in how governing by consensus doesn't work.

The UN passing a women's rights resolution..... interesting. Just another for of proof that the UN has no balls. ;)

And you again show your ignorance to how the UN works. Nothing new there.

You mean like the sex trafficing ring in South America by UN personel that got swept under the rug? Weren'r those troops from Spain?

Seriously do you really want to go there? I am not aware of any South American Spanish UN sex trafficking ring, but I am aware of a US based one paid by the US taxpayer one and a few other rings.

No because the US also has not ratified similar conventions on similar issues... so chances are they wont ratify this one.

And we regularly beat our children more than the world average, right? Maybe you should concentrate on getting Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the real kids beaters (and wife beaters) signed up and trained, eh?

What I still don't understand is why anybody cares about UN resolutions.
