The Vatican is not stuffed with all sort of art etc and it is poor is a bad joke. Visiting the Vatican I thought it was amazing that so many followers live in miserable poverty, yet the heads of the religion hoard so much wealth.

Religion and tradition does not trump legality. Even in the Vatican.

Institute for the Works of Religion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The institute was founded by papal decree of Pope Pius XII in June 1942. Its assets are not property of the Holy See, and so it is not overseen by the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See.[4] The Annuario Pontificio lists it under neither "Holy See" nor "Vatican City State", placing it among charitable foundations.[5][6]
It seems only the surplus the bank makes is at the disposal of the Vatican.

How will it weaken the Catholic church?

I never said the Vatican was poor. In fact you can see what I wrote above your response.

We can only wonder at how it survived all those centuries before the American left and Michael Moore came along.
