China slams 'inappropriate' U.S. remarks on territorial dispute with Japan

Here we go again. China attempting to bully its way into eventual more aggressive claim of the Senkaku Islands. I guess claiming the entire South China Sea isn't enough for China, now they are more aggressively eying the East China Sea. They may find it harder to bully around Japan, S. Korea, and Taiwan than it is to bully Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia. Unfortunately their renewed aggressive posture in the East China Sea could escalate tensions to a very dangerous point with Japan particularly. This is also causing a resurgence of militarism in Japan, which I'm sure no one is comfortable with.

"This unilateral action constitutes an attempt to change the status quo in the East China Sea. Escalatory action will only increase tensions in the region and create risks of an incident," U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said.

"We have urged China to exercise caution and restraint, and we are consulting with Japan and other affected parties throughout the region," Kerry said. The United States has thousands of troops stationed in Japan as part of a security treaty between the two allies.

This is just the beginning. As the US retreats to its shores who can stop China in Asia.

The US won't stop China in Asia even if we don't retreat to our shores.

One can only stand in awe of humanities stupidity.

"what shall we do today... fight over a few rocks".

I know it's a little more complicated than that considering oil deposits have been found but at the end of the day I'm a little biased given that my wife is Japanese (not that she cares about any of this anyway) but overall it appears Japans claims to the islands are far stronger than that of Chinas (or Taiwans for that matter).

Since when have we been retreating? Or decade+ long imperial occupation war is going strong.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo

China and Japan have hard a hardon for one another for centuries. In the modern era, US involvement in Japan is the only thing that has spared her from the vengence China has been planning for some time now. China will do it slowly and when the world happens to be otherwise occupied. Probably take over financially first.

Other than the ME, the South and East China Seas disputes are a tinderbox. China is to blame, of course. You don't see the Philippines or even the Japanese threatening China in any significant way. China knows that no one is looking to fight it, and they are taking advantage of that. The problem with this approach is that saving face in Asia is extremely important. They can only go so far in this direction before one of their antics requires a real response from one of the surrounding governments (though not any time soon I think).

I agree, these rocks making up the largely uninhabited islands that are the subject of dispute are essentially meaningless in and of themselves, but they have huge symbolic meaning and, as you note, resource value. Why not negotiate a settlement? Simply because China is not interested in negotiation.

to America, even though they are 7000 miles from the Reich! Those dirty little slit-eyed rice munching midgets must be stopped from trying to spread their influence in the East and South United State's Seas and their lands, islands and reefs, including any flotsam and jetsam, which are all Umurukun protectorates! Next thing ya know they will be declaring any nation that they disagree with is a hot bed of Muslim terrorism, atheism, and Chinese haters! Then China, Asia, and Russia will have to be blockaded, bombed, and their lands poisoned for thousands of years. And that is going to cost the Umurukun taxpayer a lot of money! GOBLESS UMURUKA!!
