The District of Columbia’s insurance commissioner says he was fired after questioning President Obama’s plan to fix ObamaCare and saying the city might not follow his suggestions.

Commissioner William White told The Washington Post on Saturday that he was called into Mayor Vincent Gray’s office the prior day and told the Democratic mayor “wants to go in a different direction.”

Boy you just can't ever quite tell the truth, it's there in the FNC article, though they put it pretty far down so those with short reading spans don't see the bs of the article title.

However, White and other insurance commissioners across the country have questioned the president’s proposed solution because it could create a mess in the marketplace.

Some of the top reasons for the commissioners’ objections are: policy prices are already locked in to comply with changes in ObamaCare; an extension could conflict with state-level laws to comply with the law and younger Americans needed to join the federal exchange to keep down costs will wait to enroll.

White told the newspaper that the deputy mayor who asked him to leave didn’t say the request was about his remarks.

City officials have not commented on the situation, saying they cannot discuss personnel issues. However, a city official suggested to The Post, on the condition anonymity, that White posted the statement on the city’s website before getting it approved.

So it seems #1 If Obama or anyone else was doing as you suggest, then a lot more commissioners would be fired, and they aren't.
#2 The deputy mayor did not suggest it was about remarks, per se.
#3 City officials suggest it was because the comments weren't approved to be put on the city's website (not a personal site), and I imagine that it's the approval aspect that was his undoing as stated by the anonymous official.

Unlike the states, DC is a federal property funded by the federal gov't, thus the federal gov't has extreme power over them. Rest assured that the OP is not far off the mark, although I doubt that Obama was personally involved. It is not wise to bite, bark or growl at the hand that feeds you. ;)

His firing for making the comments is the official reason but it's quite clear that the more likely reason is that he criticized Obama. After all common sense would be to simply delete the comments without fanfare. Now there's a lot of unnecessary controversy that doesn't have to be there if but a bit of common sense was used.

It's like firing someone because of internal politics. The manager doesn't like the person but he/she gets fired for being late to work.

You gotta believe what you believe so you can stay angry and immobile instead of addressing or allowing anyone else to try to address the issues of .... everyone. If you folks cared as much as your anger and bile implies, y'all would've solved all these issues when GWB had the office. But you didn't. I think you're all just so pissed off because even with it's bad roll out, it's something, and something can get better. You guys got nothing and no matter what nothing times nothing is still nothing. Negatives can even be multiplied in such a way as to become positive, but nothing... yeah...

It sounds like a subordinate being out of line, perhaps a long history of such, or perhaps some other political motive, like the Mayor never liked him anyway. I have no doubt whatsoever that it is not SOLELY because of his comment.

and you refuse to connect the dots because you will not like the picture it will reveal so you rather be purposely obtuse and not pull back the curtain and crush your belief system

Oh the irony. Bless your heart.

Re: DC insurance commissioner fired after criticizing president’s proposed ObamaCare

Oh the irony. Bless your heart.

what irony? here I will connect the dots for you
Tea Party groups get unfairly profiled by the IRS
Romney campaign contributors get smeared by Obama campaign and flamed on liberal news web sites and audited by the IRS
News reporters who write critical revealing stories on Obama get investigated by Holder and even called criminal
and now we have the District of Columbia’s insurance commissioner criticize Obama and gets fired
we even have Obama quoted "we need to punish our enemies and reward our friends"
If you don't see a pattern here your being purposely ignorant caused by the drunkenness of the Obama Kool-Aid

We have a solution to the problem. We have THE solution to the problem. Repeal the scheme. Do it tomorrow, before any more damage occurs!

Exactly you want to go back to the zero we started with. I get that, I believe I addressed. Thank you for proving my point. Bless your heart.

There is plenty wrong with the status quo ante, but O should have heeded the maxim, "Do no harm." No fix can be applied until repeal has been accomplished.

I don't like the ACA or the president. I think both are terrible for the Republic. However, I think it is wrong to try and spin this as politically motivated, especially when there is no evidence that such occurred.

If what is being reported is true, the former insurance commissioner brought it on himself.

Re: DC insurance commissioner fired after criticizing president’s proposed ObamaCare

You cannot criticize or make fun of dear leader. That should be punishable by a tar and feathering, then death by firing squad.

So that's how you get fired in this administration....incompetence? all's good, question policy? pink slip time.

Re: DC insurance commissioner fired after criticizing president’s proposed ObamaCare

You mean a political appointee was fired because of his political statements?

Gee, that's never happened before!

Bless your heart, the ignorance of your posts, leaves even the most astute speechless as to where to begin to repair the lack of knowledge. We didn't start from zero, unlike yourself, the rest of us have lived a long life and weren't born last night. The vast majority of the population had healthcare insurance. A tiny minority had little or no insurance.

Bless your heart.

Bless your heart.

And most of that minority were people like college kids who.didn't need it, people making over 50k a year who could pay out of pocket and chose not to buy insurance, and illegal immigrants.

The right wings mindless blame game is getting very trite. Congress controls DC and the insurance commissioner serves at the pleasure of the elected Mayor ......not the president.

...Despite the fact that Washington, D.C. has an elected mayor and city council, significant congressional oversight of the District's local affairs remains in place. The Congress can also revoke the city's home rule charter at any time or pass legislation in regards to the city without approval from residents or the local government.[24] District leaders have long complained about the interventionist approach that members of Congress, who have no particular attachment to the city, take in dealing with the District's local affairs. ....

From the OP....

"....A senior city official said White’s initial statement was sent to the mayoral communications director, Pedro Ribeiro, only minutes before it was issued publicly. It was not sent to Deputy Mayor Victor Hoskins, White’s immediate supervisor, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about a personnel matter.

A formal statement critical of the president should have been closely vetted and approved by the mayor’s office, and White refused to acknowledge the misstep, the official said. White said Hoskins fired him Friday.....

White said he had known since he took the job that he served at the pleasure of the mayor. He said he was proud of his record and would have stayed.

On the president’s proposed health-care fix, he said: “I wasn’t saying I was against it, I also was saying I didn’t know enough to fully support it — I want to be clear, and I think it is, I was not speaking for Mayor Gray.”...."

It's not as much an "issue" as much as it is a window into how progressives suck up to power.

Don't go with the program comrade, send you to the gulag.
