Ohio delays inmate's execution over organ donation

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Ohio's governor delayed the execution of a condemned child killer to consider the inmate's unprecedented organ donation request, acknowledging that it's "uncharted territory" but expressing hope that the man might help save a life before losing his own.
A condemned killer saving a life before losing his own? I think that's a great idea. In fact, this should be an option for everyone who is sentenced to die. It should be strictly voluntary, of course. It would be another way of exectution. Instead of strapping the condemned to a gurney and executing him, he would be put on an operating table, his organs harvested, then the plug pulled on him afterwards. IMHO, this would not be considered cruel and unusual punishment, but would be a way for a condemned to show his remorse by saving a life, while sacrificing his own. Many lives could be saved.

This should be a voluntary option for EVERY condemned killer.

    What do you think?

Hopefully you realize that you don't become infected with crazy through organ transplants right?

    Cooties aren't real either.

I completely agree. Excellent plan. A man/woman gets to go to meet his maker having done a selfless act. And where he has brought destruction? He can now bring life.

Ought to be public policy -- an option for every condemned prisoner on execution day.

I can understand the eyes, but not other organs. A killer's liver isn't big deal, but image what those eyes have seen!

Anyway... I agree with the OP, it should be at least VOLUNTARY.

Personally, I have one of them cards that says that if I die, my organs can be harvested and used to save other people. So yeah, I did this voluntarily... I personally also think that this should be the standard: Your organs are de facto to be harvested if you die but you can choose to opt out.

Get out the pitchforks, folks, and destroy that demon before he has a chance to donate those evil organs.
