Yes, I also favored shutting down the govt. to prevent the debt ceiling from being increased when that debt ceiling was 14.9 trillion. The way to pay off the debt is to grow our way out of it by cutting spending and encouraging private sector economic growth, eliminating Obamacare and returning all social programs excluding Medicare and SS to the states where they belong.

How? We are borrowing something like .60 cents of every dollar we spend....Where does the money come from? What would you cut to pay for what you are borrowing for now?
Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

Sadly, we do not know if those methods will produce the desired results.

There's nothing pragmatic about banning guns, it's a purely emotional position. This is true with most of your positions. Beyond that, your positions are almost exclusively from fringe left wing rags.

    Pragmatic? BS
    Independent? BS
    Well-researched? BS
    Interpretation of constitution? BS

    I rest my case.

I wish you wouldn't imagine that freezing the debt cieling means shutting down the govt. The govt enjoys almost $3 trillion of income - the only thing shut down is the $700 billion "more" it wants to spend that it wouldn't be able too any longer.

    I would do several things:

1- cut at least $500 billion from the current spending including some military spending, some foreign spending, some welfare spending, and other areas.
2- raise the income taxes of ALL earners a full five points across all tax brackets
3- tax ALL money coming into a persons pocket or accounts using the regular income tax schedule
4- mandate that a certain portion of this amount be used to reduce the deficit annually

You have no case to rest as you failed to quote any position I have ever taken.

Your personal crusade is getting a bit sad to watch unfold.

Should not be done by the federal government. The failure of administering something as personal as charity at the federal level is evidenced by the massive deficit spending required to do so.

Except for the middleman, the bureaucracy and the politicians, who take a huge cut along the way. What percentage of those tax dollars taken in actually reach the people for whom they were designed?

People should help people more directly.

The desired results today are going to take some tough love and some are going to be hurt in the short term. Politicians aren't willing to do what is necessary to get this country back on track and return the trait of personal responsibility back to the people. Some people are going to fail but that happens in a free society, people are free to make the choice that leads to failure. That is what made this country great, not the entitlement society we have today.
