'We were wrong': CBS's Lara Logan apologizes for Benghazi report

CBS is apologizing for questioning the Obama administrations response to Ben Gahzi? Is that what we've come to? It's wrong to even look at anything that might reflect negatively on Obama? I'm surprised and a little saddened at just how little it people care about what occurred there. If it happened during the Bush administration, complete with the lies about the video being the reason, I'd still be pissed.

It's only wrong to make stuff up in an attempt to discredit Obama. If Republicans went after Obama on stuff he has REALLY done (killing Americans without due process, spying on Americans, etc, etc) I would be joining them in calling for Obama's impeachment.

I'm waiting, Republicans. When are you going to call Obama to the carpet for his gross violations of the Constitution?

Anyone need any more proof that the racist right is completely grasping at the straws to destroy this president?

LOL. For a story that CBS news came up with? And a liar told?

What the liar said he did had no change in the outcome of what the Obama administration did and didn't do. And it sure doesn't change the lie's they told about the event.

My question is, when will CBS hold the Obama administration accountable for their lies? I won't hold my breath as it took them quite awhile to fire the liar Dan Rather.

I'm still waiting for someone... anyone... to address what I said:

The fact that he told the FBI that he was never in the compound sort of messes up anything he said about being there don't you think? It is also true that he was trying to sell a book. That should have been a red flag too. The truth is he has NO information that is credible.

I am not going to bother going back to look it up but way back I was telling one of the FauxBots if Benghazi is real, why hasnt a real news agency ran a story, they linked to this story and repeatedly used it as evidence Benghazi was not another Fauxrage. Where are we at on that by the way? Even a sherd of evidence there was any wrongdoing yet?

This is the same as every Republican talking point. Doesn't matter if its Joe The Plumber, "If you own a business, you didn't build that", or Benghazi liars, the truth doesn't matter. What is important is the story. What they cling to is the make believe that comforts them. They so desperately want to believe they're the good guys fighting evil Obama, the evil Democrats ruining their precious country they built. They want to believe an invisible man in the sky watches over everything and that they make him happy on a daily basis. They want to believe they are superior to everyone else.

Enter the right wing bubble, where they're wrong about everything everyday, but that never stops them from ever once realizing they are what has ruined this country, what has destroyed the middle class. Their idiocy and false outrage as they are distracted with the latest bs they've cooked up in their own minds, while the real issues blow by without even the faintest hint of detection.

Getting robbed by large corporations? Who cares, what about Obama! Private industry healthcare is so expensive it bankrupts anyone who gets sick? Who cares, what about Obama! Your paycheck keeps getting smaller to fatten the pockets of the ultra rich? Who cares, what about Obama!

But ALL the networks reported extensively on Benghazi . . . what were they "distracting the American public" from?

They may have reported it extensively but certain networks tried to down play its significance whilst others did the exact opposite. I was living in the US at the time and I remember recalling Fox news going crazy about trying to make this into something that would hurt Obamas chances at re-election. It had little to do with the attack on the embassy or even the loss of life instead it became a reason to attack Obama, his adminstration and hopefully boost Romney's chances ( as well as their own ratings). Romney himself tried to ride the wave but ended up embrassing himself in the FP debates when he brought it up.

Wasn't their like 13 embassy attacks in the the decade before? Why was it then that this paticular attack got so much coverage from the media and politicians?

 You still haven't said what they were all trying to "distract the American public" from. Oh, well.

You know that they cant do that,... is it not the 5th amendment or something that falls under this.. the right to not self incriminate? :)

Because the guy in the White House was a Republican... and more died in those 13 attacks than in Benghazi.. but hey that aint a problem according to the Republicans..

yes I have you are just not following. The GOP and FOX were attempting to distract the American people from how bad a candidate Romney was by using benghazi as a way of switching focus to the president and put him on the hot seat. At the time of Benghazi Romney was still behind in the polls and was taking a lot of heat from his infamous 49% speech and I imagine they thought this would be a great distraction. They did this without even waiting for any actual evidence or reports.

What other explanation can there be? The repiglicans are throwing any s*** they can get their hands on against the wall.

How about the administration ot giving answer when asked what happened that night.

Cover Ups are always investigated no matter what color the President is.

I am sure you knew that but screaming racist is easier for you. It requires much less thought.

Come on, man. Do you live among knuckle-dragging, reich wing, pickup-truck driving, Waffle-House-eatin, NASCAR-watchin' philistines like I do? They think Obama is a Kenyan and a muslim despite having no proof and republicans have been trying to manufacture scandals from every major setback. Even Clinton wasn't assaulted from every angle like this.

Just because Amerikkka can elect a black president doesn't mean Amerikkka is ready for a black president.

And because of people like you, there will never be another black president.

Racists like you have to go back into hiding where you belong.

I regret that I only can give you one like.

At the same time Faux was reporting on Obama's Katrina. What ever happened to that fauxrage. Dishonesty permeates the right from the top to the bottom and then back. The party of morals and ethics, well, not so much...

So what you're saying is, I was correct... Thank you. I do have an issue with fact that you leap from "One inconsistant aspect" to "He has NO information that is credible".

Think you could post the links that back up or confim that everything he said to CBS has been found to be not credible? Because I can't seem to find that information anywhere.

Uhhh, the lie he was caught in was a pretty big one... Common sense would dictate that you no longer trust anything they say. Unless of course you're a blind partisan then its all good.

I'm just going by what Laura Logan and CBS said... They didn't say that anything he said having to do with the poor security in Benghazi was suspect... In fact, they actually confirmed much of that stuff to be true, and that was the focus of the 60 Minutes piece to begin with.

A piece that that nothing new until they got suckered into promoting a book written by a serial liar. It was too good to be true alright.

Again..."They may have reported it extensively but certain networks tried to down play its significance whilst others did the exact opposite"

Networks like CNN tried to downplay the administrations role in the aftermath of the attack where as Fox put the blame solely on Obama in an attempt to distract voters from looking at Romneys high profile mistakes during the campaign. If this hadn't of gone down during the heat of the election we would not still be discussing it, as I pointed out there was 13 embassy attacks in the decade previous but they got probably 1/8 of the media coverage Benghazi received.

An American Ambassador was killed for the first time in over three decades.

I feel bad for CBS and think the apology was handled with grace. What happened to them could have happened to any of the major news outlets. Will happen in the future from time to time and will be instructive for journos and credulous readers/listeners everywhere.

From the Christian Science Monitor:

"There are so many people out there who have the potential to deceive a news organization," said Jeffrey Fager, CBS News chairman and "60 Minutes" executive producer, in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday. "We do our best and I think we do very well at spotting them. This time, I really feel like one got through and it's extremely disappointing."

...[Dylan Davies's] story had been quickly doubted, and his credibility crumbled with a New York Times report late Thursday that revealed the FBI said the story Davies told them didn't match what he told CBS. Lara Logan apologizes for '60 Minutes' Benghazi report - CSMonitor.com

Right after the event and during the election Faux kept referring to unnamed sources on the ground. Wonder if he was one of them.

Again..."They may have reported it extensively but certain networks tried to down play its significance whilst others did the exact opposite"

That doesn't say what they were trying to distract from. And we're quite a ways away from your comments about "ratings," etc.

Kinda funny about this is the fact that, after CBS aired the story, FOX News devoted 13 news segments on it, and pushed the story very hard. Now that CBS has retracted the story, all you get from FOX is crickets. They are not saying a single word about the retraction. LOL.

So now a 60 minutes story is about FOX?
