NOTE: Don't have a link for this yet. Vote just passed the 50 vote threshold in the Senate. Will post a link as soon as one becomes available.

It is only right that a person's private life is no damn business of the government, nor the business of whoever employs that person.

EDIT: Final vote was 64-32.

EDIT2. Got the link. Article is here.

Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

A person's professional life should be based on their skill at the job, and not their private life.

I don't have issue with the L, G or B but the T might (?) be at issue in certain employment environments.

Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill - CNN.com

Washington (CNN) -- For the first time, the U.S. Senate approved legislation that would protect gay, lesbian and transgender employees from discrimination in the workplace.
The Employment Nondiscrimination Act, or ENDA, passed the Democratic-led chamber on Thursday, 64 to 32.

Re: Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

Very good news, too bad the house is a bunch of children and don't live in the real world where people can be fired for being in the LGBT spectrum and just pretend it is already against federal law. Sucks that they suck so much that something as wonderful and as liberating as this won't even make it to their floor.

Name some people that were fired for being gay.

Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

I agree with your take on this, even if it hasn't much chance of passing the House. I am curious, however, if it does pass, whether this is going to be used as a wedge to force states that currently ban gay marriage to approve gay marriage

Re: Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

The Conservative strategy for addressing this is sticking their heads in the sand.

Brilliant!

Re: Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

It's not over yet. The GOP members of the house may be rethinking their strategies because moderation might mean future victory. Maybe. Look at the Senate and the cross-overs.

Lets hope for the best. This is overdue and a good move for the Right to take.

Re: Senate passes LGBT anti-discrimination bill

The problem is it will be abused. employees who are fired because of incompetence will claim they were fired because they are gay. No one should be fired because of their sexuality but and employer should have the right to fire or hire someone as needed....Good luck it passing in the HOR.

Don't worry my friend.........this will never pass in the HOR.

This problem exists with race, gender, and religious discrimination too. Should it be legal to fire someone for being Christian?

then i guess the house has no qualms with doing the very same harry reid does the same thing in the senate.

Duh! These are politicians we're talking about, Harry Reid included. However, once again and you should know this by now, IF the house allows a floor vote, even if the vote defeats the measure, the senate will then be free to take it up again. Only by refusing a floor vote in the house does the house prevent the senate from running over them, bypassing them.

If not....it's really only a matter of time.

Not until they get a democratic controlled HOR and that is a long way off my left wing friend....Don't hold your breath.:2wave:
