I think guns have been mentioned here...but before anyone really points to "guns being responsible," i think this is yet ANOTHER opportunity for us to highlight what our country is lacking: any understanding of mental instability.

I have yet to read about this **** ball, but I would put money on a history of mental instability. People don't snap. And until we start recognizing that...nothing is going to occur in the realm of reducing these wacko incidents.

The guy hadn't gotten to the first checkpoint yet. He never would have made it past it.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

Where did you get this idea from? You need to post a link.

I have read that he was an unemployed, anti-government, conspiracy theorist with serious emotional problems.

Update: Details on Shooter allegedly put out by the media.

Details surrounding LAX shooter beginning to emerge; charged with murdering a federal officer.....

Paul Anthony Ciancia, the 23-year-old man accused of opening fire inside one of the nation’s largest airports on Friday, was reportedly angry at the government and told his family he was prepared to die.

U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said that Ciancia entered Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning carrying a .223-caliber M&P-13 assault rifle and an estimated 150 rounds of ammunition.

His shooting spree resulted in the first-ever death of a Transportation Security Administration officer, 39-year-old Gerardo I. Hernandez. Five others were wounded in the incident before Ciancia himself was repeatedly shot and then apprehended by law enforcement.

Birotte said that Ciancia has been charged with murdering a federal officer and commission of violence in an international airport, both felonies.

"He looked at me and asked, 'TSA?' I shook my head no, and he continued on down toward the gate, eye witness Leon Saryan, 65, said of his encounter with Ciancia. “He had his gun at the ready and but for the grace of God I am here to tell about it."

Ciancia is said to have made it past a security checkpoint to a Burger King inside Terminal 3 at LAX before police were able to stop him .

A law enforcement official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Cianci was carrying a one-page, handwritten note that described himself as a “pissed-off patriot” who wanted to kill TSA employees and “pigs” for allegedly violating his constitutional rights. In broader terms, the note is said to have contained conspiratorial accusations against the federal government and a new world order. The note also reportedly expressed anger at former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.....snip~

Who made that determination about broader terms? Who is steering the narrative of a Pist off Patriot? One report says the Note "Only" said he hated Pigs and the TSA.....Yet this is described as the details are coming about him?

This guy may have been pissed, but he wasn't a patriot.

    At least IMO.

If I had to guess, he read one too many angry blogs/posts/articles on the interwebs, and decided to go do something. But then there's the whole "willing to die" bit, which sounds like what a suicide bomber would do...and that just doesn't fit in my mind with a "patriot". Rather, that sounds like "fanatic".

Yep.....no military service. Nothing to identify him as a pissed off patriot. A note that says he hated cops and the TSA. So the broader implications are he is Anti Government.

Can the Reporter be lined up so they can receive a thousand slaps to the back of their head.....real hard like. You know just enuff to roll the eyeballs inside on their own.

If it truly was misreporting, I wouldn't really blame the reporter that much - they, after all, have been working and training in an environment which fully supports, nay, encourages, such activities...

The profession of reporting has been dead, in the main, for at least a decade now.

Yeah, and it's kinda of funny a day later something is now mentioned about the head of DHS. Off the note.....which now contains conspiratorial accusations in those broader terms. Wonder if the reporter thought they were being intelligent with the way they worded things?

Just for the record there is no such thing as an "M&P 13 assault rifle".

I assume it should have been ".223 M&P 15", or ".223 M&P AR-15", because links referencing the AR-15 are the only ones that show up on the first page when I google ".223 M&P 13"
