[h=1]NJ Court Agrees to Allow Same-Sex Marriages Monday[/h]
Same-sex marriages will begin within days in New Jersey after the state's highest court{state supreme court) ruled unanimously Friday to uphold a lower-court order that gay weddings must start Monday and to deny a delay that was sought by Gov. Chris Christie's administration.
"The state has advanced a number of arguments, but none of them overcome this reality: Same-sex couples who cannot marry are not treated equally under the law today," the court said in an opinion by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner. "The harm to them is real, not abstract or speculative."

equal rights wins again!!!!
:applaud:2usflag::2party:

Within 3 years approx 30 states could have equal rights even without SCOTUS.
I don’t know how accurate it is and its always changing as the fight for equal rights continues, but it seems from the info I gathered from news sources, legal sites, civil rights/equal rights orgs and lastly pro/anti equal rights sites this where it stands below and its the best I got for now.

Along with the fall of DOMA, the UN pushing for equal rights for gays based on HUMAN RIGHTS, and the 100s of human rights and civil rights orgs fighting this battle we have the following:

Gay marriage is legal in the following countries nationally or in certain areas like us:

Argentina
Belgium
Brazil
Canada
Denmark
France
Iceland
Mexico
Netherlands:
New Zealand:
Norway
Portugal
South Africa
Spain
Sweden
United Kingdom:
United States:
Uruguay

14 states and DC have equal rights:

California
Connecticut
Delaware
Iowa
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New York
New Jersey
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington
19 more are in various stages of fighting or establishing a fight for equal rights

New Mexico – is granting equal rights for now and the SSC is going to decided on this month

Court Case(s) in the works to establish equal rights:
Arkansas
Kentucky
Michigan
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Utah
Virginia

Court Case(s) and Legislation in the works, which ever wins first:
Arizona
Hawaii
Illinois
Nevada
Ohio

Legislation in the works:
Colorado
Florida
Oregon

You're putting the cart in front of the horse. The NJ Supreme Court will still have to make its final decision early next year.

True enough, but judging by the comments made by those same judges, it seems the outcome is pretty clear, I'd give 85-90%.

If they take it up. They could just let the lower courts ruling be precedent in the future,

not worried in the least bit with the UNANIMOUS RULING today and the verbage to come from them

They would have stayed the decision if there was any chance of it getting overturned. I guess the legislature blew their chance to override the veto.

N.J. Gay Couples Line Up For Marriage Licenses
Court Order To Recognize Same-Sex Marriages Takes Effect Monday

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Several gay couples in New Jersey have decided not to waste any time before tying the knot.

Many couples were gathering late Sunday to wed in ceremonies, which were set to be held shortly after midnight. The last-minute weddings were planned after the state Supreme Courtlast week refused to delay a lower court order for the state to begin recognizing same-sex marriages at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

Awesome!!!! good for them

wait i just dont understand though?
why are so many of these gays getting married?

I thought this wasnt about marriage, i thought it was just some secret undefinable "gay agenda" and that they dont really want to get married, you know because the "gay lifestyle" is just all unsafe promiscuous sex all the time!!! LMAO <end sarcasm and reference to ignorance and bigotry>

Yeah i read that one of the couples has been together 24 years, with kids. So much for an agenda of destroying marriage and crushing the family.

It's tempting to play the part sometimes just to scare the bashers, but i'd rather they slide further into their hole of futility.

I'm also thinking what an amazing journey this couple must have had. In 1989 i doubt very much they had any expectation of this day ever coming. They probably dealt with a lot of hostility, and now have been vindicated.

1.) I know what you mean but has more and more states grant equal rights i actually hope these retards get louder and louder, find their way on radio and tv etc so the country can see how mentally inept, bigoted and moronic they are.
Nothing hurts public opinion and can help people on the fence decided faster than loud clowns. See "palin"

2.) I agree! its awesome and i have said the same. Even though I myself am not gay there was a time I thought id never see equal rights for my fellow HUMANS and AMERICANS in my lifetime. I thought only my daughter would be lucky enough to see it.

I cant imagine how they feel and its great to see discrimination slowly losing. Being witness to something so important is just amazing.

IM very happy for them and god bless them.

Christie is dropping the appeal. It's official.

NJ governor ends gay marriage fight as couples wed

"Although the governor strongly disagrees with the court substituting its judgment for the constitutional process of the elected branches or a vote of the people, the court has now spoken clearly as to their view of the New Jersey Constitution and, therefore, same-sex marriage is the law," Christie's spokesman Michael Drewniak said in a statement. "The governor will do his constitutional duty and ensure his administration enforces the law as dictated by the New Jersey Supreme Court."

IMO
that means he is going to run for president

now mind you this will make some of his fans upset but a run for presidency can NOT have anti-equal rights policies in the platform.

It's also why he won't make it through a GOP primary

not sure what you mean

you think he wont make it through one in general
or are you saying you think and GOP candidate must have anti-equal rights policies in their running platform to get the nod?

Right, to win a GOP primary you have to be against marriage equality. Too many nutters in the primary voter base.

I disagree, are there alot of nutters that pollute the scene? absolutely but i think a candidate can win that isnt against marriage equality, at least platform wise.

Like all his statements currently say "he" doesnt agree with it, he doesn't think its right, but its the law and he is going to go with what the courts ruled to be equal rights.

You really think its impossible to win unless you are against equal rights for gays?

for the GOPs sake i hope thats not the case because GOP candidate or not thats a presidential loss now. Well if its made part of the campaign platform anyway.

I think he's saying that the same group that gave us the booing a gay soldier only a few years ago couldn't possibly produce a candidate who just "gives up" on this, plus the 'conversion therapy' ban he signed. However, we will see.

Wow, what a lie. Or perhaps you forgot. In Washington state, Maine, and Maryland the people directly voted for same sex marriage legalization. In Minnesota, they voted to not ban it and then the legislature voted to legalize it. Several other states had it put in place by their legislators as well. In fact, same sex marriage has strong support in New Jersey, and Christie knows that. In fact, he vetoed a bill voted on by his own legislature, which was seen as a bad decision by those in New Jersey. Public opinion is against you NP.
