Utah national parks to open Saturday with state aid

Looks like Obama is backing down on keeping national parks closed, it must not have been polling well. Good for Utah, I hope every other state gets on board.

"Ten days after a federal government deadlock shut down Utah’s national parks, bleeding tourism-dependent businesses and towns, Utah Gov. Gary Herbert inked a deal late Thursday and wired funds Friday morning to the Interior Department that should have park gates swinging open by Saturday morning."

Looks like he duped the people of Utah into paying the federal govt to gain access to their own land.

The special interests and greedy state politicians would destroy Utah's wild lands. No thanks.

The state of Utah made a deal to open the National Parks with state funding as did Wyoming, Colorado and Arizonia.

Says who? Did Utah give the federal govt Glen Canyon, or did they take it? Under what authority do they get to take state lands and nationalize them?

It's ridiculous that the states must await permission from the fed to maintain public land in their own state. I'd much rather public parks be funded by state governments than the federal government.

considering that some states take more federal money in than they pay back in federal taxes, without the federal governments charity some states would break down entirely. Utah is one of those states

Well, the states don't exactly set the federal tax laws, do they? Maybe if we instituted a tax system that didn't so heavily focus on high income brackets we would see a more even distribution of tax contribution from states whose inflation isn't so ridiculous.
