    1. Obesity. Good gosh, most women are fat as hell these days.

    2. The overwhelming divorce rate.

    3. Raising multiple kids from multiple fathers with no man living in the home or contributing financially.

    4. Higher drug and alcohol rates.

    5. Almost zero exercise while living vicariously through reality TV.

    6. Depression and stress as a result of the above.

There isn't a young American woman alive today that knows what it's like to truly have no rights or property. Europe had all kinds of oppression not long ago. But we're talking about what makes people die sooner. Well now that women are in the workforce facing the same **** that men have been for hundreds of years......join the club, I say. For years women thought men had it made in this world simply because they had certain status advantages. Well there's a price for having that status, and it's not easy at all. And whether women still run the vacuum at home is irrelevant, because they still expect men to be men even if they make the same money and have more social status. It didn't get easier being a man just because life for women changed.

    And you're still a cutey.

I think if the bonus 5-10 years of life they got was in their 20s-60s and not in the nursing home they'd be more appreciative of the extra time.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

    So life sucks after 60?

Sorry, it was arbitrary number but its accurate to call it ageist. I apologise. More accurate to say that women have the "gift" of generally living longer than the love of their life. I never envied that.

I noticed that. It doesn't appear to be Medicaid since some of the worst states, like AR and KY, have it. Maybe just the effect of mean family income?

There's a pretty good correlation between methamphetamine use in a state and falling female life span. Meth use might just be a marker for rural poor whites, though.

I think most people here have it with obesity. Men are trucking along just fine and women are not doing so hot. The likely cause is subfertility which opens women up to the cardiovascular problems that men traditionally had to deal with. While there are plenty of things that cause subfertility, obesity is at the top of the list and obesity is linked with wealth gaps.

Re: Why Are American Women Living 5 Years Less than Their Mothers?

Many women today are desperately unhappy and depressed because they're forced into unnatural, non-feminine roles by the endlessly shrieking feminists and lesbians who ridicule them as stupid and backward if they want a husband, a home of their own, a family and children to love and care for.

Because of this incredible pressure from these strange Liberal groups, women have less chances to find happiness today than at any time in American history.

Conservatives trying to make a big deal out of this need to take into consideration that women in the 1850s died by their 30s. The "stresses" of life today and the decline in life expectancy is but a tiny insignificant drop in a society that lives twice as long as its great grandparents. Trying to attribute that to any social policy is absolutely insane. At best, we could try and link it to a decline in diet. But then, who's fault is it people consume more corn syrup than actual food?
