Journalists Detail Major Chilling Effect, Denounce White House War On Leaks In New Report

A forthcoming report by the former editor of the Washington Post details the widespread chilling effect that the Obama administration's war on leaks and leakers has had on investigative and national security journalists.

I think it's funny when journalists complain about not being able to do their job, and then criticize someone else who is doing their job. I also find it strange they are upset when it's hard for them to find people who are willing to break the law and deal with the consequences of breaking the law.

To be clear, I'm not saying all the activities the United States engage in are right or morally acceptable. What I am saying is I do not feel sorry for journalists who are not finding people willing to break the law.

The government doesn't want us knowing what it is doing. We might figure out that it's not doing us any good.

They're not breaking any laws. They're worried about having their communications monitored or tapped, veiled threats from the White House, etc.

Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

I guess investigative reporting has dumbed down to waiting for leaks.

On the transparency scale, this administration is somewhere below the Nixon years.

Yeah. I'm actually with the Obama administration on this one. Leaking of classified information is illegal and should be prosecuted as such. Even leaking of non-classified information detracts from the ability of the Executive to exercise unity of command and govern well.
