On October 1, Obamacare’s subsidized insurance exchanges went live. Most of the exchange websites crashed on the first day, a development that led some of the law’s supporters to conclude that there was overwhelming demand for Obamacare’s insurance products. But the Obama administration isn’t releasing figures as to the number of Americans who have actually signed up for exchange-based coverage. “Very, very few people that we’re aware of have enrolled in the federal exchange,” said one anonymous insurance industry official to the Washington Post. “We are talking single digits.”

Obama care is going to need enrollment in the tens of millions by Dec 15 or it will be a bust. more then half of those tens of millions will need to be young and healthy to keep the premiums where they are at, or the price will have to be raised even higher then they already are

Re: Enrollment In Obamacare's Federal Exchange, So Far, May Only Be In 'Single Digits

I heard they didn't anticipate a large number of enrollees in the first month or so because:

1. The insurance wouldn't take effect until Jan. 1

2. People are still learning and weighing their options

3. A lot of people wait until the last minute

I really am not sure how good Obamacare is as a policy. But this thing is of a societal dimension that makes me think that the first few weeks or even years will not prove its success or failure. That is why I find it so strange that Obama was willing to shut down government instead of postponing the program's start date. That has the feeling of the behavior I would expect from a juvenile gang leader and not so much from a mature and well educated person. I hope he does not overshoot. On German public radio this morning they were discussion the probabilities of the shutdown becoming a constitutional problem like "7 Days in May" citing Obama's promise to the soldiers, he would keep on paying them as evidence to watch closely.

juvenile is not being able to repeal it with votes so you do not allow a vote on everything else. That is juvenile my republican friend. If the votes for the continuing resolution were for a shutdown then I would be cool with it, but since they are not then it makes no sense as an adult rational person to do this.

A continuing resolution means keeping the status quo.. as in the US Government operating without a budget. So not voting for it is a vote for shutting down government.

Try to follow, yes, if the people vote against the continuing resolution then there is a shutdown. There should be a vote on that, quit trying to derail.

They have voted by not voting.. try to keep up. 219 members will not vote for it. So no reason to bring it up. If there was 219 votes, Boehner would have brought it up. Unlike Pelosi he doesn't like having massive fails (first TARP vote).

Anti-ACA editorial by Republican/libertarian is convincing how? I mean, seriously, he had to reference his own "study", and had to use an "unnamed source" and still failed to make much of a point. People who get their news from editorials deserve to be deceived.

Very concise accurate summation. Add that it is already apparent the system itself is not ready for prime time, this comedy skit is still in its rough-hewn days...needs some sanding and polishing before the launching upon an ostensibly unwary public. Shows BO's lack of experience in a real, read: business-like, world...the need to work out most the kinks or risk pissing off your potential clientele. Now, being the government [at least most of it, were it not for those pesky rep reps ], he does kinda have us bent over the proverbial barrel. Thank god the Republicans are showing even the tiniest bit of moxie, if the bumbler bumbles too much his namesake will stumble, tumble, fall out of favor, which it never really has properly achieved anyhow.

You play the game to win for your side, fellow citizen. Our team, just like your team, uses any advantage, any strength it may have or may create legally. Its the way the game is played...and the way Dems are squeaking squawking and bleating--- shows its working.

You got Obama willing to talk with hostile criminal regimes, regimes who have assisted in sending IEDs to kill fellow Americans, have potentially chem-warred its own citizens... yet won't negotiate with fellow Americans on what could plausibly be the biggest move he will ever have to make to keep this country safe and sound, at least fiscally/economically.

I think the way that the prez has mishandled this can easily be characterized as being adolescent even, perhaps also tilting towards belief in his own cult of personality, this refusal to even negotiate, of denigrating the opposition, so risking it all, all or nothing, that reveals the self centered, egocentric policy decision-making pursued by this president. History will judge him the bad and the inept guy, the guy that tried to impose more government, much more government, upon a free people... doing so in this president's own inimitably maladroit manner.

I hope it will be a story of how the system rose up to oppose this imposition, that the people still have a good bit of that original oomph in them to stay free and individual. An Andrew Jackson beating back of the National Bank kinda story.

its not an editorial it is news now if you think the news provided is nonfactual then you discredit it by posting your own facts to counter it

just because you don't like the facts that doesn't make them an opinion

Surprise surprise... Guess those polls about the American people not wanting ACA were pretty accurate.

I heard a doctor on the radio the other day giving options to a patient and when they found out they would actually have to pay a premium for ACA they said I'll just keep going to the ER....

you have just a little over two months to be right keep holding your breath

Frankly it is just as convincing as the enrollment numbers the Administration has released but it is quite premature to assess the Acts success/failure...time will tell.

Re: Enrollment In Obamacare's Federal Exchange, So Far, May Only Be In 'Single Digits

I like how the article references a supposed 260% increase in premiums. It does this by comparing the cheapest insurance that exists today to the cheapest insurance available on the exchange.

If you're a conservative and don't understand why that's a ridiculous comparison to make, you don't know enough about the law to have such a strong opinion on it. ;)

That is not juvenile. Its constitutional.

By the way, I am actually not Republican in leaning. But, whether we like it or not, we are going to have to cut government spending rather dramatically and the Affordable Care Act is set to increase spending. If that were not enough, we are on the brink of recession and changes of the size of this Act are disruptive on a scale, that could easily tip us into depression. I hope that does not happen. But waiting a few years would probably be a very good idea.

You cannot vote by not voting and you cannot count votes that were never made because boehner is too chicken to have a vote because he knows he will be outvoted again. I love how you somehow got votes from no votes, that is a pretty good peice of logic perversion.

One problem, your side keeps losing when it goes to the public.

Only because your side with its biased media does not tell the American public the truth. People, if they knew the truth, would want to kick his ineptness-in-chief in his big donkey...send him a-packing. He is by far the most worthless yet harmful politician I have witnessed in my lifetime. I thought Jimmy Carter was the bottom of the bucket...but look--- there is a hole in that bucket---- guess what dropped out?

just because you don't like the facts that doesn't make them an opinion

HealthSource RI spokeswoman Dara Chadwick told WPRI.com 2,089 people have created accounts on the agency's insurance-buying portal, and 366 of them successfully completed an application. Those 366 individuals either already paid or have a payment pending.

HealthSource RI Obamacare sign-ups totals 366 on marketplace's first two days

...and that's just little ol' RI - kinda blows your single digit 'fact' out of the water.

It's early yet for a victory dance. They have until Dec. 15th to get coverage for Jan. 1 and until the end of March during this open enrollment period.

It is constitutional for me to fall down in a fit because I did not get my way and cry on the sidewalk. There are lots of things that are constitutional that are not good things you can do.

You can call yourself whatever you want, when you go running around with the group of them you are a republican. You can think you are the queen of england for all I care, you side with them and i am putting you with them.

Yeah, like faux news is the truth. Look, I am right with you when you say MSNBC is the democrat propaganda channel, and CNN is the present administration mouthpeice. Don't tell me your lies are the truth because I do not look to the main stream media for the news, I actually have had to go look stuff up for myself.

A quick bit of digging reveals that you are hugging a story written by a Romney adviser who quotes insurance industry sources and a right-wing think tank. And even though he admits that the enrollment numbers haven't been released... he knows because an anonymous insurance company guy told him so. And you are buying it?

:2wave: Hello Troll Princess. Good to see you.

- You mean, Obama shouldn't cry like a baby, because the House wants him to cut the grass if he wants his allowance?

- Everyone that sees one thing in the same way as Republicans is a Republican? That is an interesting way to see things. Not productive, mind you and not very helpful, when you are trying to grasp reality, but refreshing in an quaint way.
