.(AUSTIN) A recent poll conducted by the Texas Lyceum, the statewide nonprofit, nonpartisan premier leadership group, shows Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott ahead of State Senator Wendy Davis by eight percentage points, should she decide to run for governor. Among registered voters, Abbott comes in at 29 percent to 21 percent for Davis. However, at this very early stage “don’t know” comes out way ahead of both with 50 percent of the registered voters polled between September 6 – September 20.
Among women, Abbott and Davis are in a statistical tie, 25 percent to 23 percent, with Abbott holding a lead over Davis that is within the poll’s 3.47 percent margin of error. Fifty-one percent of women remain undecided on the Abbott-Davis matchup. Looking among African Americans and Hispanic registered voters Davis enjoys a lead with both groups. Among African Americans, Davis carries a 26-point lead - 36 percent to 10 percent - and among Hispanics, Davis leads Abbott 22 percent to 18 percent
