Sharp Words Over Shutdown When Lawmaker Visits WWII Memorial

Maggie I usually like you but you got this one wrong. The rangers should also have a brain.

"I usually like you"

What a lame comment. I think that means that you usually like her posts. As for the substance, I agree with Maggie. I blame the people giving the orders to make visiting unmanned national parks as difficult as possible. Put up your stupid sign telling everyone it's closed and then go back on furlough.

I hope no one ever tells me to my face that they "usually like me". They won't after that.

Yes I meant I usually like her posts.

Republicans are trying to get all that funded but democrats have no interest unless they get Obamacare funded.....

Let me rephrase that for you to reflect reality:

Republicans are trying to get all that funded with the 1-year delay on the ACA insisted upon by a subset of the Republicans in the House.

Democrats would be willing to get all that funded with no modification to the ACA.

Neither side is willing to compromise, and this will not end until either someone compromises or gives in.

Why the fault of congress? Congress did its job and passed a continuing resolution the democrats and reid won't sent it to the loser in chief - why do you defend the left so much and blame only one party?

The congressman would be wrong in attacking the security guard - on that I agree with you.

Congress didn't pass anything.

Nice of you to leave the loser in charge free and clear -you shine thru with your politics don't kid yourself lefty.

Wow, you really have no idea who you're talking to if you're calling MaggieD a lefty.

The Republicans have tried to negotiate and harry reid won't even send negotiatiors; your dictator in charge will talk to a nation that stones to death gay people but not house Republicans. Since I don't believe you are too naive to buy into the left wing media hyperbole I can only believe you are just another left wing political hack.

This whole mess started because the Republicans in the house tried to fiddle with the ACA and the Democrats in the Senate refused to let them. Neither side has budged in any substantive way on the key issue that started the mess.

Exactly democrats are unwilling to compromise yet prortray themselves as transparent compromisers....

Actually, the park service has to go out of their way to close some of these parks which are un-manned to begin with. While the Park Service falls under the Department of the Interior, run by Obama appointee Sally Jewell. So if there's anyone to blame it's the DoI for following the President's political move of shutting down un-manned parks.

the park service is following legal advice to make reasonable efforts to shut out those who would ignore the park closing
but then i understand the term 'reasonable' is something not understood by many of the reich wing

Yep... and the NAZI soldiers at Auschwitz were "just doing their job" too.

The fact of the matter is that what that bitch was doing was wrong.

exactly. that park ranger excluding non-veterans from the memorial is the equivalent of murdering innocents because of their heritage. incredible

Actually, Reid has been very clear about the fact that the Democrats would be willing to discuss compromise -- just not while the whole of the discretionary budget is held hostage.

She was dead wrong. You don't disrespect veterans especially WW2 veterans.

actually, it was the appeasement of the park service which was gotten wrong. how was the WWII veterans' desire to visit memorial found to be an exercise of free speech while other non-WWII veterans could not enter
the park ranger was given weak instructions, but she saluted and followed orders. what was she to have otherwise done?

Tell us again why the monuments had to be 'shut down' and have their access blocked. there is no requirement for staffing and the park department and police are still on the job. So...other than this being just another petty stunt from a petty pathetic excuse of a president...why again were the monuments shut down?

Ever BEEN to those monuments?

the federal parks are government assets which must be protected
they must also not impose a public hazard

Almost correct. In this context "reasonable" is one of those wiggle words lawyers use when they believe later they might have to defend their advice in court. The park service should have covered their asses and asked for very specific guidance.

The best course in hindsight would have been to put up barricades with signage saying park closed by order of your federal government. Then step away. Anyone enters, liability is on them.

how smart is it for a federal employee to violate a direct order to exclude specific persons from the memorial?

Actually, Reid has been very clear about the fact that the Democrats would be willing to discuss compromise -- just not while the whole of the discretionary budget is held hostage.

Nonsense. There are no hostages, no guns, only Democrats refusing to talk. And, by the way, the House is offering to fund the rest of the government... But, again, the Democrats will not play unless they get their way.

Stop drinking the Kool aid...

Derpends, are they getting paid? Because otherwise the answer is, "Sorry Director, we're on furlough and liability is not covered by the job right now".

What truly unique is disgusting to in all of this... Obama is willing to lock out citizens from otherwise unmanned federal property, but refuses to lock out illegals...

If Obama and the Democrats are willing to treat WW2 veterans like this over a memorial for political opitics, think about how they are going to treat you if you're a registered Republican and need life saving surgery under Obamacare

Blue Ridge hotel defies Park Service shutdown - Washington Times

PRUDEN: The cheap tricks of the game - Washington Times

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

the park service sought and received legal opinions about the need to secure the federal parks. they followed that advise

now, show us your legal credentials, and then expound about why the park service's actions are legally unsound. without providing the first, i must ignore the last

Corrupt thugs in power always find a "legal way" to justify their abuses of power

they are reporting as directed. if deemed 'essential' they are also being paid
those who are not directed to report for duty and still work in their federal capacity are subject to a $5000 fine and potential termination of their position

Many of them have been through this before bubba, they know that when the 'shutdown' is over they will be granted back pay for all their time, so they know they really are not losing anything.

Democrats are refusing to negotiate while Republicans refuse to fund the government, Republicans refuse to fund the government unless the ACA is delayed. That is the very definition of holding something hostage, and the very definition of two sides being equally unwilling to compromise.

Stop drinking the Kool aid...

You really shouldn't talk to yourself where the rest of us can see, people will start to wonder.

You're arguing with the wrong person - where did I say their actions were "legally unsound"? However, legal advice to "do what's reasonable" is worse than no advice at all.
