Ted Cruz launches faux filibuster as Senate readies spending bill vote

They should be forced to pee their pants or give up the podium. That's the American way!!

Eh, he's a self-absorbed, ambitious jerk with delusions of future grandeur... which is what his grandstanding now is all about in the first place.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS!!!

My thoughts exactly!

He's not holding up the vote, it will still take place as scheduled. He's only using up time Republicans might have used for real discussion. For goodness sake. He read Green Eggs and Ham on the floor.

Useless *re-read Di's post* stunt.

What real discussion. Dems aren't going to budge on the issue, so what is there to discuss.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

The very premise of Obamacare is an affront to individual liberty and the basic freedom that this Republic was founded to preserve. People need to take a stand against this kind of thing and I commend Sen. Cruz for doing just that.

Sorry, but Cruz is a terrible messenger. The message is right but when presented by a fool, the validity of the message is lost. People don't rally behind idiots.

If Senator Coburn, who also disagrees with Obamacare, was leading this move, it would be infinitely more effective. There are many strong Republican voices in the Senate but you don't hear from them because the clowns are front and center any time the cameras are around. Perhaps people close to the fray can't see it, but my being a distant observer, I can see what's going on and it's not good.

Cruz is a lightweight fool who's been reading and hearing too many glowing reports from people who think he has a future in Republican leadership. God help America if this comes to pass. You already have a dolt in the White House who's only claim to ability is a flowery way with prose and an ability to carry a tune.

He got elected because there are more good people in the state that believe in standing up for their beliefs than there are useless socialist types, like Liberals.

Oh really!!! What exactly has he done while he has been in office? Except do a lot of grand standing. I'll clue you in absolutely nothing. The people that voted him in are small minded, ego driven. Just like him, low information voters that love to be scared. Now I love the fact that you have to use the word socialist, because that is the typical scare word that the righties use now a days. Get over it there are many socialist programs that even Republicans implemented. My biggest wonder is when this loon runs for president how the right will glorify him with a straight face after accusing Obama of not being born in this country. I hope he runs and wins it will be the final nail in the coffin to see exactly how backward Republicans are. You guys would have a better chance of running Charlie Manson. At least we know he is bat **** crazy.

Except that Cruz' filibuster, which technically was not a filibuster (confused yet? - LOL), lasted a little over an hour. What the hell was that? Was THAT the amount of time he was able to stand on his feet? Jesus!! I know people who stood in line for hours just to get an iPhone. Cruz - You are a *****. LOL.

Um....He's still on the floor....FAIL!

Green eggs, and Ham...A classic tale of a kid being forced to eat something he doesn't want to....Kinda fits...Anyway, why the animosity if he is not holding anything up? Doesn't he have 1st amendment rights?

You want to see all the lefties really get in an uproar? Let him start at page one and read aloud the entire ACA....That'll get some ire....

 yeah, yeah we know...If we dain to disagree with 'dear leader', we are "dumb, backwoods, racist, rednecks, that probably couldn't wipe our asses correctly without direction"..... What a crock.

God, if we only had more like Ted Cruz in the senate. A guy that actually knows and understands the Constitution, unlike the dumbass liberals and RINO's that populate our government today. A true patriot, truly speaking to power, calling out our idiot, marxist president and his crew on their violations of our rights and liberties.

He even speaks for those convenient idiots that besmirch him, call him names, and do the rest of their stupid liberal tricks. He is standing up for your rights and liberties too, though you don't have the brains to realize it.

I realize that if he disappeared back to Canada tomorrow it wouldn't be too soon for me. I have no use for that arrogant critter.

So it's 8:57 the next day....16 hours after you declaration of him as a *****...and he's still up there.

What am I missing exactly? Or were you the one missing something in your lustful rush to attack a republican?

Cruz is a junior senator, he is no fool. Your post reminds me of the talking points from Karl Rove, the big mastermind in the Republican establishment through hook and crook bring us such stellar candidates like Romney and McCain (losers) forcing the base of the Republican party to hold their nose at the voting booth or just not bother to vote at all. And those so called "strong Republican voices in the Senate" who have been attacking Cruz, do so anonymously or use their staffers to do the dirty work. Where I come from we call that a wuss.

But this morning there is something in the news that was quite a surprise to me. Looks like the head of the Republican National Committee is behind Cruz's efforts.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus backed Sen. Ted Cruz’s anti-Obamacare quasi-filibuster Tuesday, possibly sending a message to senior GOP leaders who are criticizing Cruz’s tactics in defunding Obamacare.

hmmmm, maybe there are more like me that told them to buzz off and don't call me back asking for money because I am no longer going to send money to a party that props up spineless jelly fish as candidates.

After he is done at 1pm today, the focus will be that it wasn't a real filibuster and the name calling will continue. I enjoyed the reading of the teamsters letter, because not only did it show that they've realized the bill is a sham, but also because the teamsters think they should be a special group exempt from rules that apply to everyone else.

The only thing that tells me about him is that he's a long-winded obnoxious bastard who doesn't know when to shut up.

If he ever says anything that will help most people in the USA, tell us about it.

When ever Cruz leaves Washington, D.C. for good, which can't come too soon for me, Obama care will still be in effect. Wait and see.

The motives are still in question whether he is doing this because he really cares or he is doing this to score political points for the future. Unclear to me at this point, but I have to give him props in the hope he is doing this because he is passionate about it.

More people should at least stand and be counted on things they are against, then just be the sheeple the parties want them to be.

His goal is to have people think he's 'standing up' to block Obamacare, rather than just filling space. He is hoping his constituents are too stupid to understand his actions are pointless.

From the looks of things here, it seems as if he isn't underestimating his constituents intelligence.

You mean about as pointless as the Alamo?

Think about the people he is representing.

Cruz is an embarrassment to the Republican Party and he is a perfect example of idiots primaried in that have caused continued ruinous Democrat rule of the Senate. He saw Rand Paul make a principled stand against drones and decided he needed some of that - a total embarrassment.

I agree with you but would have said Cruz is a perfect example of the TEA PARTY idiots who have caused such a ruinous state of affairs in BOTH houses of Congress.

A cobbled together astro-turf success story of an ethnic CON that would be the CON Messiah and lead the CONs to the Promised Land. The Pied Piper of Hispanics who will turn the tide that has surged against the 'angry white man' party. That slick, good looking fella who will cause those hormone enslaved women to forget the rhetoric of the TPs and just vote for him 'coz he is so sexy'...

Or some such crap onna cracker... :peace

I think a little arrogance is required in this situation, especially since he is getting plenty of it right back at him from both sides. I watched a little of it last night, he was answering questions. He is so well spoken, articulate, and extremely knowledgeable. It was so refreshing to see someone that could back up his position with a rock solid foundation of facts based in the Constitution. He is the real minority leader in the senate. And, God willing, he will be the leader one day, if not President.

He seems to not understand senate rules, there will still be a procedural vote on the spending bill.

You're comparing this to the Alamo? Maybe if he talks until he literally drops dead you could make that comparison, but still...

Of course, once again, irony of reading Green Eggs and Ham is lost on the shallow minded Cons as the moral of Green Eggs and Ham is the ills of pre-judgment.

If you recall, the last lines of the book are "Say, I like Green Eggs and Ham, I like them Sam-I-AM"..... all that time and energy wasted protesting eating Green Eggs and Ham rather than acquiring the wisdom and knowledge (a simple taste) to make that judgment correctly. This is exactly what is going on in America right now.... all of these Cons going on and on about the ills of Obamacare, but few, if any, actually understand it. Certainly the average America voter does not or poll results would reconcile with the 63% approval rating from the people that actually have experience with it: Massachusetts, where it has been in effect for 7 years.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/10/opinion/10fri4.html?_r=0

Dems would have welcome Teddy getting out his copy of PPACA (if he knew where it was) and reading it. It would have been his first time as well. Of course, the risk to the Republicans would be that as he read he might actually smile once or twice with a ".... hey, this is pretty good.... I like the Affordable Care Act, I like it Sam-I-AM."

Of course, that is the Cons big fear is that the Americans will also like the Affordable Care Act, they will like it Sam-I-AM.

Its been a winning formula for him so far, but what works in Texas will not work nationally as there is an unusual concentration for his type of voter in old south and especially Texas.

You might want to check my lean. I'm not a Republican, other than they are currently allies against the greater evil represented by the Left.

Low information voters? Would that be like Pelosi and other Liberal that voted for a law they hadn't even read? Or would that be voters that limit themselves to extremely biased reports that nit-pick one element of what Perry and others have done and try to call one stat they want to be a negative in amongst tons of data showing jut the opposite. Or perhaps those who are unable comprehend or ignore the abundance of evidence showing the longterm affects of Liberal/socialist economic policies?

When you call voters ignorant, keep in mind that that is the most accurate description of what Liberal is.

Does Ted Cruz realize that most of the funding for the affordable care act has already been appropriated and the bill currently being debated in the senate does nothing to remove that funding?

The only way to truely stop the implementation of the affordable care act is a bill that outright repeals it, and that has as much chance of passing as a icicle's chance in a furnace.
