I love what she had to say here. And it applies for Americans too. Without the right to privacy, there is no true democracy. THAT'S what Jimmy Carter's talking about.

UNITED NATIONS — Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Tuesday delivered a stinging rebuke of electronic espionage by the National Security Agency, telling a gathering of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly that American eavesdropping constitutes “a breach of international law and an affront” to Brazil’s sovereignty.

America’s spying efforts pose a threat to democracy throughout the world, Rousseff said, as she proposed U.N. regulation of cyberspace to ensure the integrity of the Internet.

“Without the right of privacy, there is no real freedom of speech or freedom of opinion, and so there is no actual democracy,” Rousseff said. And “without respect for [a nation’s] sovereignty, there is no basis for proper relations among nations.”

Brazil’s president condemns NSA spying - The Washington Post

As this brave and principled woman states the obvious, US politicians are mum, and refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. Shameful.

Yes it is, and all over the talk radio shows they are pissed at Obama for acknowledging at the UN Iran's reasons for being unhappy with the US as if to put them on equal footing with the reasons we are unhappy with them. But they are on equal footing. Yet no mention of what the Brazilian president has said. It's not getting much attention on this board either, nor did the story I posted a day or two ago about brazil creating their own Internet in defiance of the US for this very same reason.
