(Reuters) - A United Nations panel of experts met on Monday to review a draft report that raises the probability that climate change is man-made to 95 percent and warns of ever more extreme weather unless governments take strong action.

Scientists and officials from more than 110 governments began a four-day meeting in Stockholm to edit and approve the 31-page draft that also tries to explain a "hiatus" in the pace of global warming this century despite rising greenhouse gas emissions.

Who cares?
We should run out of fossil-fuels in the next century, anyway.
Problem solved.

Does that include the several hundred year supply America is sitting on alone?

Okay.....we'll run out of fossil-fuels in the next FEW centuries.
Problem solved.
World wide starvation will probably wipe us out before then.
Anyway, the point is, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions isn't going to happen.
Current C02 levels wouldn't be reduced for decades, even if we stopped burning fossil-fuels completely.
Better to adjust for the possible consequences.
Bye-bye Bangladesh.

At least something is being done.

We should be researching ways to sustain ourselves which do not rely so heavily on organic hydrocarbons,
but not because of the specter raised by the IPCC.
Our organic hydrocarbons have a long term finite supply, but the short term extraction cost will rise.
At some point, the higher cost will limit their use to essential food production and transport.
(We currently do not have a way to grow food in the quantity necessary without oil)
The AGW proponents should look on the bright side, we are much more likely to run out of fresh water before Co2 heats the planet
beyond our tolerance:mrgreen:

I think the scientists are emitting confused signals. Until that changes, I would only vote for more research. Maybe the UN should mandate all the wise men into conclave and leave them there, till they can make up their minds.

In several hundred years I will weep.

What are they doing differently from before?

"punish the puny humans"

You mean at least bureaucrats have a job? Or that wealth redistribution is being worked on?

The only reason why I am cautious to believe that global climate change is anthropogenic is due to the general public's reactance. It was and still is the same as back when the concept was first introduced.

Real Headline: Lapdog Scientists Attend Week Long Vacation to Schmooze with Government Sugar Daddies conclude that they need more money.

Perhaps, if only the scientist who's livelihoods were dependent on govt hand outs were honest instead of lying to promote more govt money, perhaps is disingenuous Al Gore was in it for the good of man and not the good of his carbon emission exchange he intends to make billions of dollars on, and perhaps is they could just learn to plug a volcano they could get the earth to finally freeze over!

I agree. The whole thing has pissed me off for a long time because it has been so politicized. It would seem as though politics would have nothing to do with it. If there is indeed global warming, and if indeed global warming is detrimental to human health and ultimately existence, and if indeed it is caused by humans, then it obviously isn't a republican or democrat issue. It's an issue for all humanity and we had best be at the business of solving the problem. And if none of the above is true, well then........................................

The amount of carbon emitted from a volcano is not a problem. The ocean takes carbon away from the atmosphere in a delicate balance. If it were a problem we would have had climate change thousands of years ago.

The issue is fossil fuel cars. The risk is that there might be damage done to climate change before fossil fuel runs out and it has an option to reduce carbon in its' own natural way.

Right, because those scientists who's livelihoods are dependent on oil companies have no bias whatsoever right? There's monetary skin in this game for all involved.

I don't goubt that human's have an impact. I question the percentage of that impact and the methods to combat it just being done by the U.S. and some European nations. Even if humans are a big factor, the fact that big polluters like China offset anything the U.S. is doing in this regard.

You are aware of corporates influencing presidential decisions? This is the case where corporates are influencing scientific decisions. Big oil companies would directly be hit if something like this starts being enacted against.

So they thought instead of wasting their precious money for common good they choose the usual capitalistic way instead. How about keep the money and damn the rest of us instead.

Re: U.N. Panel to blame mankind for global warming, explain 'hiatus'

Where as its been proven the govt scientist have lied perhaps you can show us where the oil co's scientist have lied to line their pockets? Or based on your statement then I assume you believe al gore is just like an oil co since he is in it for his business profits? Why is it about redistribution and not health of mankind and our planet?

The amount of carbon emitted by a volcano may not do it, but it does more than man kind and there are several volcanos in constant eruption right now. Why don't you tax them and leave man alone.

I'm saying when people have skin in a game for either side, they become biased and looking to prove THEIR version correct. Yes? Or do you think the oil companies are so honest that they would NEVER do a thing like that?

I think Al-Gore is biased, but I hope you are not foolish enough to think the oil companies are not.

Your probably right about Al Gore (and certainly about the oil co.) but do you have any idea what might be driving his bias? Because he was on this way back in the 70's as a junior senator.

There's always been money in discoveries and history has shown those that come up first are usually rewarded for it. The drive to be the first (even though wrong), is a huge drive to bias. in today's world it seems people are more concerned about being first, rather than correct.

So you're saying that when Al Gore was a freshmen senator and was trying to get his snickering colleagues to address "the problem" he just had money on his mind?

I would add fame to that, but yes that is definitely a possibility.

Sure! And researchers would get less money, were they to say: "No Problem!"

There are lobbies on both sides and conflicts of interest and bribing and worse.

So what do you propose? Spend the money and hope it wasn't wasted? I mean, we are talking not Hundreds of Billions. This is serious money.
