Senator John McCain: Russians deserve better than Putin - Pravada Article

Unquestionable support of Assad seemed to be a Russian initiative....that is, until the threat of US airstrikes.

Apparently they don't have ALL the power considering how they're SUDDENLY now willing to give in a little.

Interesting how any and all US intervention in the Middle East is oh sooo horrible and yet Putin giving weapons to a dictator like Assad apparently doesn't warrant any criticism.

Unless we threaten to use military force....then suddenly we do. I wonder if there's any connection?

Or because Assad and Putin are finally cooperating a little. That could be the reason as well.

Putin gave Obama an out. He was trying to get Congress behind him and that was going to fail miserably. Obama should than his lucky stars that Putin saved his bacon.

next month, he'll probably advocate bombing the Russians.

Obama sucks on many issues, but i'm glad McCain didn't win. we'd be up to our ass in at least three wars right now if he had.

As long as McSame isn't trying to fly an aircraft I am in, I no longer care what that irrelevant fossil thinks. I'm surprised he isn't dead already, to be honest. He looked like he had one foot in the grave last time he was on the world stage in 2008.

That freak is more than mildly dangerous though.

McCain and Putin are both monstrous clowns.
Putin more dangerous than funny. McCain more funny than dangerous. Surprisingly I dislike McCain more though. At least Putin is looking out for his own country's interests in Supporting Assad. McCain wants to bomb Syria because defense contractors gave him nearly 180k in bribes.

McCain is absolutely correct about Putin, but its weird that he get's so many people's support here because not long ago people who criticized Russia were accused of being stuck in the Soviet Era and didn't know the Cold War is over.

Just because you agree with McCain on Putin does not mean you agree that the world is still operating under a Cold War mentality. The biggest (real) threat to America is not Russia.

So you think that we should engage Syria with our military, side with the Free Syrian army which is backed by Islamists from the Muslim Brotherhood who are fighting side by side and sometimes with AlQaeda.

If you were informed, there isn't a FSA. It's a bunch of loosely organized groups doing their own thing. Army implies command and control, which the Syrian rebels do not have. The secular groups are fighting both Assad AND Islamists. And we should be backing them. Stop with the idiotic monolithic belief that groups are homogenous. It's like you didn't learn the most basic lesson of the Cold War at all.

Putin is the only reason we haven't bombed Syria by now, well than and the fact that Obama has no clue what he's doing. For me, I'm glad the Russians stopped our military involvement in Syria. We have no business there other than having some kind of dick comparing contest with yet another Middle Eastern country.

So you believe a Hobbesian World order is better for the world then?

Just because you agree with McCain on Putin does not mean you agree that the world is still operating under a Cold War mentality. The biggest (real) threat to America is not Russia.

I don't think anyone ever claimed such. Well, except during the Cold War obviously.

I don't think anyone ever claimed such. Well, except during the Cold War obviously.

I didn't claim you did, but the notion that there is a contradiction is wrong. Putin is a bad leader but that doesn't make Russia our biggest threat or that the Cold War is still going on. I see no logical problems with agreeing with McCain that Putin is bad for Russia while criticizing people who think that Russia is still our biggest threat as being wrong.

Senator John McCain: Russians deserve better than Putin - English pravda.ru

There's the John McCain we know and love. Where the heck have you been hiding?

Err you do realize he is a ****ing joke and his people are idiots?

Pravda.ru is a small blog site and not the old newspaper. The old newspaper was originally closed down by Yeltsin and reborn as the Communist party's 3 day a week newsletter with 100k circulation.

So Putin got his article in one of the biggest news papers on the planet, and McCain on an online blog/newssite, most Russian dont even know exists.

So you believe a Hobbesian World order is better for the world then?

Obama isn't fighting the cold war and I'm not talking about it. Obama was going to use military force on Assad putting him on the side of the FSA, and contrary to what you say, one exists. McCain claims to have visited them. You are right that there are many groups in the fight. Some rebel groups fight against the FSA. It's a mess and for my money, we should step aside and let them duke it out. All Obama has done is stick his nose into something it didn't belong, demonstrate his weakness and give Russia and Assad the upper hand. It's a mess and we should avoid it all together.

And everything McCain said could be said about the US. If you are gonna throw stones make sure you don't live in a glass house as well.
Who's the last journalist to be assassinated by the State? And the last musician to be jailed for dissent?

Who's the last journalist to be assassinated by the State? And the last musician to be jailed for dissent?

Michael Hasting and wasn't that film maker of that horrible anti-muslim movie arrested and blamed for the riots in the ME?

Not exactly true. Pravda.ru has nothing what so ever to do with Pravda the newsletter with 100k circulation.

This is Pravda's website

http://www.gazeta-pravda.ru/

I never said it did. You can clearly see that when I Pravda is no such thing (when referring to the Kremlin). But Pravda.ru gets about 100k hits a day (circulation) and that's being nice.

If US foreign policy was at the singular direction of a given sitting president, then we would see huge shifts in practice from one presidency to the next. One president may believe its a good idea to give $aid to Israel and the next might think its not and discontinue it. Instead there's a basic straight direction to foreign policy. Ousting president Assad has been a US foreign policy goal for at least two decades. If Putin succeeded in outsmarting the US on this attempt (and it would appear that he has, if only for the moment) it will be picked up later or by the next president or the next. Human rights abuse has NOTHING to do with it or the US wouldn't be abusing humans rights.

It's amazing to me that they actually published something like this. Pravda is effectively a mouthpiece of the Kremlin.

Actually, it is not. It is a mouthpiece of the largely-impotent and semi-opposition Communist Party. Allegedly slightly reformed, Chinese style.
The relationship there is complicated, but make no mistake: Comrade Zyuganov (the Commie boss) would never miss an opportunity to poke Mr. Putin in the ribs. Besides, this issue of Pravda is already probably the most read one since 1993....Doesn't hurt at all.

no.... you are mixing up Pravda.ru with the newspaper Pravda.. they have NOTHING to do with each other

Pravda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

or if you dont believe that..

McCain Misfires at Putin in Wrong Pravda - Bloomberg

Today, there are two Pravdas. One is a print newspaper with a rudimentary website, published by the modern-day Communist Party. The other, Pravda.ru, is an online-only affair whose publisher, Vadim Gorshenin, worked for the original Pravda in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Gorshenin has close ties to the Kremlin, having participated in Putin's election campaign in 2012. The website's general orientation is pro-Putin.

Others call the second Pravda as a tabloid..

Pravda.ru - RationalWiki

Bottom line.. Pravda.ru can not have 100k circulation.. because it is not a paper newspaper but an online news outlet.

This is the way I see Assad. Not a good leader, much in the mold of Hussein. Brutal dictator in a country where there is a need for a strong hand because of the cultural diversity consisting of groups with a predilection for violence. Neither leader was heavily guided by Islamist principles, preferring dictatorship over yielding their personal power to a theocratic leader. Within their country this makes them a little like Hitler, a real dick that made the trains run on time.

You might be right about our decades long desire to rid Syria of his reign. Personally I would rather see him stay in power than to extend the caliphate that the Islamists are trying to create in the region.

Again, Pravda only has a 100,000 circulation today in Russia.. it's not widely read. Hell, the Columbus Dispatch has a larger circulation. What John McCain has proven to the world is he'd argue with a statue of Stalin because he still thinks it's 1979.

It may be true that Pravda is a pale shadow of what it was some 30 years ago (thank God), but both my parents (who still live in Russia, off and on) have bought a copy and read it, independently - for the sake of that one article. In both cases, it was the first paper issue of Pravda they have bought... eh...probably, ever?

Don't get me wrong: I am a fairly conventional American libertarian, I don't care for any vague-purpose military adventures abroad, and so forth.

But if the choice is between McCain and Putin, Obama and Putin, the raccoon who just made a mess in my backyard and Putin - please, there's no choice at all.

(For John McCain, I also feel some genuine respect, as a human being. Cannot say the same about Obama and the raccoon, though I wish them all the best).

I COMPLETELY agree with your assessment of president Assad, felt the same way about Hussein. As for the decades long desire for Syrian "regime change", see the video and paper presented by General Wesley Clark. His paper has three of the seven countries on the list now crossed out, they're working on the fourth with Syria and the fifth Iran is not far behind. How can Clark be wrong when he's already right?!?!

no.... you are mixing up Pravda.ru with the newspaper Pravda.. they have NOTHING to do with each other

Don't tell me what I am mixing up when you can't even read. So I'll help you ONE last time.

Again, I never said they were the same. I noted Pravda McCain had something printed in is basically a blog. The other discussions I had about Pravda are about the old Kremlin mouth piece.

Bottom line.. Pravda.ru can not have 100k circulation.. because it is not a paper newspaper but an online news outlet.

Let me help you out some. In media industry... circulation is the measure of popularity which plays a roll in ad revenue. The higher circulation the better ad fee you could demand. Since the late 1990s when print started going to the web and over the last decade with the decline of print sales.. print + web traffic = circulation.

Again..

Circulation is (Print + Web Traffic) in the 21st century since most newspapers now offer either/or access. So much so Pravda.ru used this measure to point out how Huffington Post was surpassing Drudge Report in 2008. Huffington Post may topple Drudge Report soon - English pravda.ru

Pravda.ru has less then 183k visitors a day (repeat visitors). At most they have 30k unique visitors daily. Lady.pravda.ru - Website Traffic - by SimilarWeb. These are the numbers potential advertisers look at. If there was no visitors Nokia, the ad that's up for me on Pravda.ru right now, wouldn't buy that space from Pravda.ru.

So PeteEU you are wrong here.

To me, McSame is the biggest of idiots, who's a$$ was covered for decades by daddy - Admiral McCain. Who crashes a plane after a college football fly-over? Who crashes his plane smuggling home Christmas presents on a training mission? His first two crashes he blamed engine failure. Both times investigations by the USAF showed the engines were still producing power. That makes him a liar. He also shucked and jived the interrogations after his plane started the Forrestal fire. After he got splashed in Vietnam and did 5 years as a POW, stories started swirling that due to his dad's political might he actually was treated as a guest and lived in the lap of luxury during his POW years. He stayed in part of the Hanoi Hilton prison in a group of buildings called Little Vegas, in which each building was named after a Vegas hotel (Golden Nugget, Thunderbird, Stardust, Riviera, etc). I do not know how well he was treated, but some negative press was thrown his way that he was treated like royalty and supplied with hookers, visitation rights, etc. The VC called him "The Crown Prince". Here is a quote from ex CIA spook and author Phil Giraldi (Philip Giraldi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

McCain’s own tale of his torture and the confession he recorded for the North Vietnamese comes largely from his book Faith of My Fathers, in which he describes his shame at cooperating with the enemy. But some of McCain’s fellow prisoners, who were tortured and did not collaborate, have challenged his narrative, expressing their belief that McCain was not physically abused at all and that he was well treated. Others who were also in the prison camp dispute that claim. But by McCain’s own account he may have begun cooperating with the North Vietnamese within three days of his capture and was fully on board within two weeks, providing specific intelligence on his aircraft carrier, its aircraft, and the support vessels attached to it, information that was later featured in North Vietnamese radio broadcasts. One account that appeared on a wire service entitled “PW Songbird is Pilot Son of Admiral” reported that McCain may have gone beyond an acceptable level of collaboration in assisting the psychological warfare offensives aimed at American servicemen: “The broadcast was beamed to American servicemen in South Vietnam as a part of a propaganda series attempting to counter charges by U.S. Defense Secretary Melvin Laird that American prisoners are being mistreated in North Vietnam.”

Douglas Valentine, in a 2008 article in Counterpunch, describes how “On one occasion, General Vo Nguyen Giap, the top Vietnamese commander and a nationalist celebrity of the time, personally interviewed McCain. His compliance during this command performance was a moment of affirmation for the Vietnamese. His Vietnamese handlers thereafter used him regularly as prop at meetings with foreign delegations.”

It has also been claimed by retired Army Colonel Earl Hopper, admittedly without any corroborating evidence apart from what might be contained in inaccessible Pentagon files, that “McCain told his North Vietnamese captors, highly classified information, the most important of which was the package routes, which were routes used to bomb North Vietnam. He gave in detail the altitude they were flying, the direction, if they made a turn… he gave them what primary targets the United States was interested in…the information McCain provided allowed the North Vietnamese to adjust their air-defenses. As result…the US lost sixty percent more aircraft and in 1968 [and] called off the bombing of North Vietnam, because of the information McCain had given to them.”

Very interesting Snap!
