By now every driver knows the drill: The price of gasoline ratchets up, there's an outcry among motorists who feel gouged at the pump and then things settle down as the higher price becomes the new normal.Well, AAA has come up with a sobering statistic: the average price of gasoline will surpass $3 per gallon Tuesday for the 1,000th consecutive day. That's never happened before, the motoring organization says.

In case you're wondering, the current streak began on Dec. 23, 2010. Today, the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.52, according to AAA's daily price tracking service. That's a nickel a gallon less than the average so far this year. And unless there's another recession, AAA forecasts that a price floor of $3 a gallon is basically here to stay.

"The new normal" eh? Who says this has to be? Obama? Look, his policies are hurting the middle, and poor. Why should we continue to take this without making him account for it? I am tired of not having enough money to even go out to dinner anymore. All because Obama wants to break the system.

Keep going progressives, send yourselves into political obscurity for another 100 years. :2wave:

Right, because we should hold Obama accountable for OPEC right?

No, but we can hold him accountable for instituting policies, and regulations here in this country that have contributed to the rise in the price of gas.

Right because we could have $0.75 gallon gas if only we drilled baby drill

Funny, when Bush was president and gas prices soared, it wasn't his fault according to most conservatives. Now that gas is over $3 a gallon, it becomes Obama's fault according to you.

Funny, but when Bush was president and gas prices soared, it was his fault according to non-conservatives. Now that gas is over $3 a gallon, it's not Obama's fault, according to you.

So you're excusing the partisan hacks on blaming Obama because partisan hacks blamed Bush. Got it. Now, how does that solve anything again? Oh yeah, I forgot you don't care about that, just blame Obama.

If we did expand drilling on federal lands, it would take care of the trade deficit. Sell while the price is high, boost reserves when its low.

In fairness, gas prices soared during Bush's presidency and have been fairly level during Obama's. Throw in the fact Bush's ties with oil companies, and it's not hard to see why people would blame Bush.

I'm not saying it was Bush's fault. I think there were several factors which pushed gas prices higher and I'm not sure how much control a president really has over international oil prices. What I am saying is it makes much more sense to criticize Bush when gas prices rose over $3 a gallon (at its height) than it does to criticize Obama, who has seen gas prices remain roughly the same price throughout his presidency (excluding the time period when our country was reeling from the recession).

So then you blame Bush for the gas prices when they skyrocketed to right?

Gas went up when Bush was pres because most of his terms were an economic boom period. Contrast that to the current high gas prices in the worst economy since the great depression and you see what Obama's anti fossil fuel policies get you.

LOL the apologists begin. So you're saying the price rose above $4 because we were in a boom? :lamo Gimme a break. Is that the best you have? :lamo

Obama wants gas prices to go up. He wanted it to be gradual, but definitely wanted them to go up. He wants dependence on alternative energy that isn't equal to oil yet. He has the power to put in measures that would lower gas prices, but stubbornly chooses not to. Why? Because he has special interests he wants to keep happy rather than doing what is good for the American people.

And yet, with the stock market reaching record highs on a regular basis, gas still isn't as expensive as it was at its highest under Bush.

Get off the partisan nonsense.

Even if this were true, and it's not, we SHOULD be putting more resources in alternative energy, particularly renewable energy.

Gas prices are not going to go down, at least not until alternative energy becomes more available and more widely used. Also keep in mind, gas prices went up under Bush, not Obama.

Please do tell what part of what I said was not true.

Presidents do not have control over a globally priced and traded commodity.

Period.

And the fact of the matter is gas prices in most of the Western world are alot higher than in the United States.

Gas prices are at historic highs all over the place and it's not the fault of Obama or his policies, it's not the fault of Bush or his policies...

Video snipped

Actually they do. Being one of the most populated countries and the largest customer for that commodity makes us, and the POTUS, the elephant in the room. The POTUS can, with a swipe of the pen release the gas and oil reserves. He/she can loosen or tighten regulatory enforcement upon the industry. Oil and gas leases and how they are maintained - the POTUS has great power here.

Gas prices are high because demand is high, good old capitalism at work here folks. Despite the job situation, the economy is purking at a good pace. Look at the stock market.

Here is an interactve map of gas prices in the U.S.

No, your portrayal of me would be wrong. Perhaps a bit of partisan hackery at work.

My only point is to illustrate the hypocricy of the left which includes the MSM.

The part where Obama wants gas prices to go up and the part where he has the unilateral power to push gas prices down.

Obama has been quoted as such, do a Google search. And I didn't claim he had unilateral power to push gas prices down.

our energy model is almost as dumb as our health care model. if we don't replace it soon, the wars that our kids will have to fight for access to diminishing resources will become more and more catastrophic. as a side benefit, the actions we take will lead to more terror funded by oil. meanwhile, casino gambling on the price will continue to pull billions out of the economy that could be spent elsewhere, and everyone suffers.

i like my gasoline powered vehicles, too, but this is a one hundred year old technology, and the costs aren't just the retail price. we can do better.

It only makes sense to blame one and not the other when viewed through the lens of partisan ideology.

No, he's just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy in your post.
