OH, please, please, not another science thread morphing into an AGW it's a hoax, no it's not, yes it is, see here, this is a real genuine bona fide scientist who said the Earth was getting cooler forty years ago, and onandon. Been there, done that.

As for where the solar system ends and interstellar space starts, let's ask the people who decided that Pluto isn't a planet after all.

    Personally, I really don't know.

Um, no, Voyager 1 is no where near the Oort Cloud. It is in the scattered disk somewhere outside the Kupier Belt. And the inner part of the Oort Cloud is about 1 light year from the sun. Voyager 1 is not even a light day away from the sun.

I think that the definition was the influence of the suns magnetosphere to the interstellar medium. While I could not find out in the article the outer distance of the Oort cloud I remember that the average distance of gravitational influence is about 3 light years some parts would be less due to the Alpha Centari stars and others would be greater.

they briefly talked about it in that science friday interview. I think the guy who was in charge of the voyager project basically stated you could argue over the exact definition of "interstellar", but that for practical purposes you could say such. I was in the middle of calibrating a sensor, so Kinda missed the details

So far from home and all alone. Can't help getting emotional because there's no words for just how brilliant this is. Congratulations to NASA and all involved, such an amazing accomplishment.

Now this is awesome. It's not every day you see people who dislike certain government programs admit sometimes they have some good in them.
