Netherlands Close Eight Prisons Due To Lack Of Criminals

No, i'm suggesting the Dutch may have a different approach-more like a path of restorative justice.

Paul

Maybe we should send a few hindred Latun Kings over there and see how tyat works.

Dear America,

We understand that you're frustrated because you are unable to resolve your own problems without assistance, but we will require ADVANCE PAYMENT for our services.

Dear people with dykes and windmills: We like to go with stock options. Agreeable? Hugs and Kisses all around, US

Or, "Gang violence in The Netherlands out of control; state of emergency"
I wonder if that will be followed by "Netherlands PM declares it isnt the poor dears fault...their ancestors were oppressed"

When I get time I'm going to dig deeper into this. I'm under the impression that our prisons are full due to drug laws but I could be wrong, I have never really researched it. Most of today I have spent researching what to do about ice dams in my roof valleys that fooked up my metal roofing last winter. IMPORTANT stuff!

I'm pretty sure that you'll find that very few people are incarcerated just for drugs. I don't have any stats but I'm pretty sure that if you find them you will also find that drug charges are only part of the deal. For example, the cops show up for a domestic squabble and then find that one of the squabblers is on parole for a drug offense, has firearms in the house even though they have a prior felony, has drugs and paraphernalia in the house, etc. Their sentence (assuming conviction) would be due to ALL of those charges and not just the drug charge.

The other thing you'll run into is that someone will get probation for a moderate drug charge (possession of an ounce of coke) or a short sentence and parole but then they get hooked up again while on parole. If your sentence on the original charge was 2 years and you serve 6 months with 18 months probation then during that 18 months get popped for something else you're going to get a longer sentence the second time.

Dear Americans,

We still have monarch. Cash is King

Dear Wooden Footed Folks: How's about an annuity? You get the prisoners to work. We'll pay an annuity in perpetuum. Good deal. The longer you keep 'em, the more they're worth. Affectionately, US

Dear Gun Owners and Cousin's Uncles

We outlawed slavery decades before you did and we prefer cash. We realize you may not be familiar with these unique customs, but that's how we do things around here.

Sincerely yours
The Netherlands

It's all up. Better take it. Better'n cash. Last chance. If ya haven't noticed, we got us a corner on the prisoner market. There's prisons evrawhere. Sincerely, Loosin interest, but a happy US

Dear Untied States

We're way ahead of you when it comes to sustainable power sources and while our land may be lower than sea level, your financial house is not.

Best regards,

Very good. I think I'll end it. We'll just take our prisoners elsewhere. Of course, if we'd eliminate the costly and useless war on drugs, we could afford to house our prisoners. There wouldn't be so many of 'em. You're expecting common sense here. That's asking a lot more than we're willing to deliver.

He'll blame Bush!...lol

I suggest Mexico. They don't mind packing 'em in, and they sure could use the money

to think that people doubt me when i say there are alternatives to the prison-industrial complex. We give out 35 year sentences for stealing golf clubs, arrests for vegetable garden, "chalking," sarcastic comments on facebook, even filming the cops.

Dear Netherlands.

We would like to ship you 8 prisons worth of violent felons. After they serve their time we would like you to let them assimilate with your culture as it is obviously superior to ours.

Thanks so much...

Love, America

Sorry America,

we love you all but we have our own criminals and our own problems. Also, if they are American felons they would have to go back to their own country.

Love, Netherlands

Dear America,

We have plenty of room for your violent criminals since we don't imprison everyone who commits a petty crime. This will be good for you because you often release your murderers and rapists due to lack of room to incarcerate your drug users. We simply send our drug users for treatment and those who don't respond to treatment are allowed to quietly continue their habits as long as they don't bother other people.

So, when you give someone 30 years for murdering children, they won't get out in 7 years because they have accepted Jesus as their personal savior. They'll be here the whole 30 years and your citizens will be much safer.

In the meantime, we can use your dollars so unlike you, our streets don't have potholes and our infrastructure isn't crumbling.

Sincerely,
The Netherlands

Sorry America,

non-violent drug users who do not have a criminal history and who's only crime was possession will not get prison time.

and no, in the Netherlands people who find Jesus will not be set free before their minimum served time is over and done with.

Sincerely the actual Netherlands.

Could you possibly have misread my post that I was gracious enough to put up on your behalf?

Dear Netherlands,

Put up, or shut up...

Us.

Sorry, not shutting up but imprisonment in the Netherlands is not possible due to human rights issues with holding prisoners thousands of miles from their loved ones.

Sincerely
The Netherlands.

In addition, in some places, peeing in a public place gets one labelled a sex offender and burglary is considered a violent felony.

Do you have a link for that first one?

P.S.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans died to free your asses from the Nazis. YOU, owe us.

Only a very small part of the Netherlands (the southern part of the province of Limburg) was freed by the Americans, the rest of the Netherlands was largely freed by the Canadians.

But, the entire continent of Europe has a debt of gratitude to all American troops, American workers and American families who's men fought and died for the freedom of everyone in Europe. This debt is also there for Canada, Britain, Russia and all other troops, workers and families who made the same great sacrifices that the Americans made to free us all from the evil Nazi's.

No, we do however think that the criminals who are beyond rehabilitation will get jailed for natural life or get a mental disorder sentence which states that they will only be released if found cured.

If I were about 50 years younger, I'd be living there. Of course, I've been a desert rat for 40 years so I'll have to get warm jammies to survive.

In 1997 I attended the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. Late November and cold as the heart of a cat refused a treat. One glorious week, a fascinating place to live. The architecture is just, well, astonishing.

I guess a few hundred years of extra time to make and correct mistakes gives you a bit of an advantage over us post-modern cowboys. I'm sure we'll catch up in a few hundred years. Nobodys perfect:)
