US Senate panel approves use of military force.

wartime income tax marginal rates for the full length of the police action. this needs to happen every time we engage in interventionism, and the increases should be significant.

it's time to get people angry enough to force changes to our foreign policy. this plan will do so.

Great idea. A wartime tax of 20% on incomes up to $100K and 40% on incomes up to $1M and 60% on incomes above $1M. That will reveal our "patriots" very quickly.

historically, we have always done this until recently.

if the rates had automatically jumped the minute we set foot into Afghanistan, that war would not have lasted more than a few years. the key is that rates have to go up significantly for everyone.

skin in the game. no more wars on the credit card.

I bet some Congressional office phones are pretty busy. Especially since Kerry assumed the role of top bloviator for the administration.

Exactly. We need a Constitutional Amendment for this. The cost of military action should immediately be paid for in higher taxes, though I would limit it to the top brackets -- since they benefit most.

Let's see how serious these people are. The rich no longer participate in the actual military. Let's at least make them pay for it with higher taxes. Something tells me we'd have a lot fewer military interventions.

to be fair to McCain he might of been taking a break! From what I hear he was instrumental in getting the vote done today.

If he wanted to show a good ethics, he could have gone out of the room and he could have played even Battle Field with Obama if he wanted to.
But playing that game during a speech, is so rude. He disrespect the one talking, and he disrespect the entire room.
I won't come up with that "he could at least respect the dead people in Syria by now, since the talking was about Syria" ......... because I don't really they care a lot about dead people or humanity standards.

Powell and Rice showed the way.

I think he was flying a drone over Damascus.

and that would be stupid policy. i'd even be willing to consider taxing those who aren't currently taxed federally. everyone needs to get involved in opposing new police actions, not just the wealthy.

as the regional hegemon, this is Saudi Arabia's responsibility, just like it would be our responsibility if it happened in Mexico. paying for it directly will wake up Americans.

Ohhhhh, so smart move. lol

You increase the tax on the rich and you think it won't affect you or they will care a lot??
They will increase the prices and your life cost.

The wallet of a Rich never change. The rich will always spend the same amount, either you increase or decrease the tax for him.
You decrease the tax, he will invest more. You increase the tax, he will absorb more.

If we structure it like the ACA, we can collect taxes for a few years before we actually start the war. Sounds like a winner. Maybe they'll have killed each other off by then, and we could take that bonanza and actually reduce the deficit in a meaningful way.

If we can tax the profits of the war away from the puppet-masters, they may reconsider the sudden "humanitarian emergency" and "suspected WMDs" and allow us to go on with our lives without these creative for-profit wars.

Sure...except I would say hit the congressmen and their constituents that vote for the 'police action'.

Its really fun watching the conniptions that are ongoing. Some dems for, some dems against, some republicans for, some against (same breakdown on DP BTW)...yet invariably people are making this be about left wing, right wing, Obama against the republicans. That part is fun to watch because those doing it look absolutely goofy. At the same time...

its very sad. People have a hard time saying what they believe should be the actual response, duration, targets, etc. Its almost like they are waiting til after the 'event' happens, if it happens, to commit to something.

I agree. I anxiously await the upcoming funding vote.

Since the military is overwhelmingly made up of working class men and women, I think they already pay enough

Obamaphobia: you're soaking in it.

I would understand something like this and potentially support it, though unsure about this particular setup. But you can tell politics today has made me a cynic...I'd be worried day one you'd have Republicans trying to remove all of those and Democrats trying to exempt all or some in the "up to 100k" range.
