Unannounced Israel-U.S. missile test fuels jitters over Syria

Heya Canell :2wave: .....like I said in the Putin thread. Now we know Russia will warn Assad of incoming. ;)

So, that's what it was about, huh? Testing Russian detectors?

Wonderful!! See its not just neocons! Our country has been and is run by lunatics. The White house propaganda will be that it was a long time plan that just happened to coincide with current events in the region.

Well, and trying to find those subs I would think. ;) But hey the Israelis say it was just a test.

Nothing can be decided for another week to 10 days. A lot can happen by then. ;)

The UN has ALREADY SAID NO!

Yes. They also said Jesus was just a charlatan.

Well, actually the UN said they wanted to see a Political Solution over a Military one. But they haven't said no just yet.

Hillary Clinton was sent to the UN multiple times to seek authorization for sanctions, no fly zone and use of military force, and has been consistently told NO. And to this moment Russia is warning we better not.

The only thing Russia is going to do now.....is just give Assad Advanced warning when their coming. They have played their hand. They could have put up a blockade. That was their only out. In the reality of anything. Nows its play defense.

I don't disagree with that, necessarily, but then that doesn't have anything to do with what we were discussing. The UN has told the US no on the use of military force in Syria, and regardless of weather or not Russia wants to involve themselves militarily, they will not be relenting their position on that.

China and Russia on the Security Counsel yeah.....but we haven't heard anything from the UN about stopping any military action either. Other than they don't like it.....that is.

For nearly three years the UN Security Council has denied the US use of force, that is the point, and no such authorization is forthcoming from that body. And the UN isn't in the business of stopping such things, they either authorize such actions or the deny authorization.

Yeah, well they now found a way to legally get around it. Thanks to the French.

Ok, except not everybody agrees that it's legal!

I may need to put on my tinfoil but I believe our country is being heavily influenced largely by big business and government contractors who understand fully just how lucrative constant war can be for them. I do not think it is any coincidence that may of our top officials in various departments were once part of these very corporations or own significant shares in said companies.

Oh, that won't require a tin foil hat. Eisenhower told us 52 years ago that this would be the danger of the MIC. But just look at the support war gets on this board despite that.

I don't get it, what did Ban Ki Moon say?

UNITED NATIONS — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday warned that any "punitive" action taken against Syria for an alleged chemical weapons attack last month would be illegal without Security Council approval or a sound case for self-defense.

The U.S. and France have blamed Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime for the alleged Aug. 21 attack and are considering military action in response. Such a strike would almost certainly occur without the approval of the Security Council, where Russia and China have consistently used their veto power to block action against Assad's regime. The Obama administration argues that a chemical weapons attack cannot go unpunished because of the council's inaction.

"As I have repeatedly said, the Security Council has primary responsibility for international peace and security," Ban said at a news conference. "The use of force is lawful only when in exercise of self-defense in accordance with article 51 of the United Nations Charter and or when the Security Council approves such action.

He also warned that a military strike against Syria could unleash more turmoil and bloodshed in a crisis that has already killed more than 100,000 people.....snip~

Oh OK thanks, yes I knew that, I thought you were arguing he had reversed that position.

Nah.....But this was the First time it was released today about the action being illegal. World Wide. So now all are getting the UN doesn't want to see any Strike By the US and the French.

Might have to do with France running around saying they need to punish someone.
