Difficult to believe but Putin has somehow managed to resist Obama's charm offensive.

The FSA started out as protesters, two years ago, protesting abuses by the Assad Police/military. Political arrest and torture.

There were shots fired from the protesters toward the Syrian police, and police fired back, killing demonstrators. Same thing is happening in Egypt.

A Cease Fire could allow political activity in small groups, but not in large demonstrations.

The US could offer help to solve crimes of Murder, Kidnapping and Torture. A cease fire could include an amnesty for crimes prior to the cease fire.

The US could agree to furnish equal assistance to prosecuting FSA and Military members.

The civil war needs to be transformed into Civil Society, free of fear of unjust detention or injury.

The US needs to export a love of justice. People in many countries need to better eschew murder, kidnapping, and torture. Kidnapping is becoming common in Mexico, our southern neighbor, and the US turns a blind eye. People need to stop selling Murder as War or Revoution.

You make some good points here, but I just want to clarify, I've still seen within the past 2-3 weeks that they are still being referred to as protesters...

Anyway, yes, there are many ways that this issue could be tackled without resorting to bombing runs an eventually invasion.
