'War-weary' Obama says Syria chemical attack requires response

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

Obama has dumbed down, dismantled and feminized our military so much in the past four years I don't think Obama could put boots on the ground in Syria today.

Obama can't even put a Carrier Strike Group in the Mediterranean Sea because the carrier that's suppose to be the "surge" carrier to be used in an emergency can't deploy because the ships crew haven't been efficiency trained for deployment because instead of training for deployment they have been sitting in the class rooms receiving their mandatory indoctrination in PC sensitivity training.

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

The US has the greatest military in the world but not the greatest leadership, which is why Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya are not considered victories. Plus they have lost four 4-star generals, if i recall correctly..

And despite what many of the American people would like, the USA is the 'Policeman of the World' and dictatorships everywhere will be watching for Obama's response. That is not to say they should attack Syria, however, unless it is entirely in American interests to do so. It is not even certain just who will replace the present regime or what their intentions might be..

Obama will fight a political war to satisfy his base and the Nobel committee, as usual, rather than a military war. Anyone who fights under Barrack Obama must love their country very much.

I was with you up until that underlined sentence. What do you mean we "are the world's policeman?" Who appointed us? You? The "expectations of dictators?" Little Mahmoud in some third world nation? I don't recall any international vote or appointment to that position.

Our place, as I see it, is to set an example for others to follow. Violent reaction is NOT a good example. Instead we should be proving ourselves by doing "nice-nice" things, like providing humanitarian aid to BOTH sides of any internal conflict, and sanctuary to refugees. We offer mediators, perhaps developmental assistance to help build farms, industry, etc. If we are truly upset we can cut off aid, cut off economic ties, trade embargo, etc.

Military action is always kept as the last and least acceptable option, used with maximum reluctance. Even then it should occur only when we or an ally we have a defense treaty with is actually under direct threat.

You have a tendency to make "cryptic statements." Do not assume everyone is on your wave length. Please make youself clear in your first response. Explain "reality refutes me."

Thank you.

How many times must a democrat, then a republican, then a democrat again, do something before you realize that, just perhaps, it's necessary.

God you have to love the weird obsession of the Right. "feminized". Perfect teabaggery. Not a fact in the entire post.

Theh potatoes and fried onions were in the soup or on the side? Pro tip for pea soup: slice up some nathan's hot dogs or hebrew national hot dogs and some baby carrots and put those in the soup too. IMHO that totally makes that soup epic. Assuming a soup can be epic.

I fry the onions separately, then add them to the completed brew when I do the salt (which should always be added at the end, as it hardens bean skins).

I like to fry some carrots with the onions. I'm vegan.

Yeah..very nice. Now back to the topic.
Do you support attacking syria?
If so, why?

I support the overthrow of Assad and the instituting of a transitional democratic government beholden to the UN.

You wanted reasons, see signature below.

You lost me, sorry. If we're talking about this particular area...it was Bush Sr. who took us into Iraq, then Clinton was Pres. and he didn't take us anywhere that I recall...then Bush Jr. took us back into Iraq AND added Afghanistan...now we're at Obama in Syria....what did I miss?

Bush Sr. should have finished the job so there would have been no need for Bush Jr. to do it. I don't see what that has to do with Obama trying to go into Syria which I am oppsed to.

Clinton did the same thing that Obama is proposing - cruise missile strikes. At what point will you realize that maybe sometimes military intervention is the right thing to do.

operation desert fox, forgotten by most Clinton lovers and anti Iraq war alike because they live in a world where Saddam did nothing wrong after the 1st gulf war.

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

I think that anybody who uses the term "boots on the ground" needs to be sent to Syria to be gassed. That is an incredibly dehumanizing term. Our military troops are people, human beings.

1. Person expresses disapproval of putting "boots on the ground."

2. Person says another person should be gassed.

Seriously, who is being more dehumanizing here?

If only people saw the uninsured as human beings too, we'd have one hell of a Country.

I forgot about the missile strikes on Baghdad in '"retaliation for an Iraq attack on a kurdish controlled city in northern Iraq." Well, technically Clinton could claim violation of the truce agreement imposed on Saddam after Operation Desert Storm. The same crap Bush Jr. pulled with his final invasion.

Again...What does that have to do with Syria???

In fact, your examples go to show how we keep messing up in the area. Not how we need to keep going INTO the area.

So how many times must I be shown the "reality?" I have seen the reality and it is foolish....to keep messing about in the Middle East. You have yet to justify our use of military force on a nation we are not at war with.

News & Commentary - Center for Military Readiness

"As incompetence, deception, duplicity and dishonesty become the hall marks of the Obama administration, it is important that we not lose sight of the greatest danger posed beyond these serial scandals: the feminization, emasculation and dismantling of our military. The two most important elements of national survival are the media and the military; one keeps us free and the other keeps us secure. We know the media are failing – God help us if the military does also. We may be able to fix the government in 2014. Fixing the military is more problematic."

Sadly, all that will probably be just fine with the new pretty-in-pink military President Obama, the Democrats, and eight turncoat Republicans just gave us. "<

Clinton's cruise missiles blew up the Chinese Embassy. I don't think Obama will get away with blowing up the Russian Embassy.

Russia's navy is designed for surface warfare, basically sinking U.S. Navy ships. American destroyers are designed for providing air defense and anti submarine defense for our carriers. Obama had allowed our navy to fall in a state of disrepair that we don't have any carriers to take on the Russian navy's ships.

I think Putin knows this and Obama has already fired those in the U.S. military who also knew it and replaced them with REMF's yes men.

Obama is so incompetent he has already told Assad what will be targeted by our Tomahawk cruise missiles.

But who knows, maybe we do have "ships that go underwater" ?

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

Boots on the ground was never an option.

I made pea soup with potatoes and fried onions.

+1 for staying on topic.

All our ships can go underwater..if they get holes blown in them.

It's like the excellent submarine movie "Das Boot".

The commando they are bringing on a mission looks around apprehensively at valves and pipes (routinely) leaking and says "How deep will this thing go, anyway"? and the captain says "All the way to the bottom if we don't stop her". :)

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

Uh...get a ****ing grip? I don't have to get a ****ing grip. And I don't know who Martin Dempsey is. If you have no more respect for our troops than to refer to them as boot...then I suggest "give some ****ing respect".

As far as the military is concerned a troop is no different than a tank or truck.

It is too bad you don't like that but that is the way it is.

Not that it means that we must intervene whenever atrocities are committed around the world, but American credibility is on the line in this case. The stated (bull****) reason for invading Iraq was due to the threat its supposed stockpile of WMD threatened us and our allies. They didn't have any, but guess who did? Syria. The President sets American foreign policy, and he has drawn a reasonable line to deter their use.

Now Syria has apparently crossed that line and is using WMD against our allies, their own people. How can we defend our moral standing in the world if we choose to punish a country because of their threat of using WMD, but ignore a country that actually uses them?

On another point, Congress as a body certainly deserves to have a say about military action. However, the legislators that make up Congress don't seem to have earned the President's respect after all they've done to delegitimize him.

Re: "No boots on the ground in Syria," Says Obama

Once again Generalisimo Obama is lying to the American people that we would intervene because of a small scale (possibly fake) chemical attack. The real reason he is interested in this area is of course the same reason the far left accused Bush of in Iraq. A war for oil and pipelines as Warmonger Obama is looking out for his Islamist pals in Qatar, Saudi & Turkey who need Syria to connect the pipeline. Thats what this is all about........
