I do not see Obama as the drooling idiot Carter was. I agree Carter caused the Middle East mess we have now; but I do not see that Obama wants to do anything but make it better.

I am not sure as a taxpayer that it is my burden to pay for USA to be the police that punishes the tyranny of over 200 countries on this planet. The 200 countries are not asking me to shoulder that tax burden / asking USA to be the global earth police, the Constitution does not say I have to shoulder that tax burden of protecting the world from dictators, and I do not feel my children and grandchildren should be put in harm's way for a problem that is clearly an islamic issue that has nothing whatsoever to do with USA. If Assad is going to do anything beyond gassing his own people, he will certainly be going after enemies in Israel and Lebanon. So let Israel handle this how they see fit; and let USA just continue to sell weapons to Israel. If Russia wants to sell weapons to Syria, that's fine too. I personally feel USA weapons are much better than Russian weapons; so I think USA stands to make a lot more money. Plus Israel pays bills and Syria doesn't.

    1. I completely disagree. The President's credibility is the credibility of the United States. The question being asked across the region and in foreign halls of power is whether or not the US has the stomach to flex it's muscles after Iraq or whether we are fatigued. Even if we do little it is important that we show that we act.

    2. We would be demonstrating that the use of these weapons warrants special punishment. Moreover we do have the support of Western nations, military support from Turkey and France, diplomatic support from the UK, Canada, and Australia, and potentially further military support if we chose to act. The issue is not our displeasure, it is that their usage incurs punishment that they can ill-afford to have repeated.
As I've said on other threads - two things - one, what is the purpose or end-game to be gained by this "show" of force? and two, what are the contingency plans for if and/or when, this show of force escalates into a full on outbreak of violence in the region because no President should use military force in another country unless he and the US are prepared to finish the job.

That makes it worse. That means he is destabilizing the region with intent!

If Americans didn't know it already, they should know it after this past week - Obama is neither feared nor considered credible by the rest of the world - that ship has long sailed and there's no way you can get it back until Obama leaves office.

That's perfectly fine. He's not a god nor a king. It's the US that is the true basket-case, and everyone knows it.

No, America is not a basket case at all - it is still the strongest military and economic power in the world, with some of the most generous, brave, and aware people in the world, even with a dolt for President - most people in the world know this and will get over the disasterous Obama Presidency if a true, honest, dependable leader is elected next time around and not someone solely interested in what the Office of President of the United States can do for him/her.
