McJobs and the Minimum Wage[W:123,226]

Say what? you believe the national debt is 5 trillion right now and obama has REDUCED the national debt by 7 trillion dollars?

No you just cannot f******* read as of now he has spent 5 trillion after the REpublican mess of 30 years it was 12 trillion when he took office it says that plain as day! Learn to read! The only one on lsd is you!

As a former restaurant owner, I know this to be correct. I've been out of the industry for many years, so I don't have the exact numbers at hand, but I know the concept is absolutely correct. Food is a loss leader, and the money is in drinks, etc.

Actually, for a restaurant, a 10% profit isn't bad.

I don't think they'll get anywhere near the wage increase they're seeking, but if they do all I have to say is that I better never... ever... get the wrong order ever again. All excuses will be off the table. And that is *IF* I'm even still going. I might feel the food has been priced out of my price range and is beyond its worth due to the high wages.

I would imagine that even if they get their wage, their performance won't change much, if at all.

Debt was less than $11T when BHO took office. I've already given you the link.

You're way out of touch with reality.
....but try to calm down. :)

These mother****ers who work at McDonald's can never get my order correct now, and I always have to wait for fries, and they want more pay???

I think they should LOWER the McDonald's minumum wage.

Yes this is also true for pharmaceutical companies. Why actually help sick people get healthy, when you can make a bunch of cash with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. When you walk into that cancer institution for "help", Just remember Its Just Business

And you and everybody else are free to go to school, learn oncology and develop treatment that you can then give away for free. It has been my experience that those who whine the most do the least, and the lazier of them look to government to fix it, as they care about you too.

Let me know how chemo goes. Remember don't whine......Its just business

No very well grounded in reality I think you are missing the point. When Obama came into office he was handed a bill a 12 trillion dollars. Yet you want to heap all the blame on him. When 3 Republican presidents spent about 10 trillion of it. Top that off with a bunch of people that had no term limits with money getting stuffed into their pockets it creates a bad situation. This was not Obama fault, frankly if you clould not see this happening in the mid 80's you are the one living in fantasy land. At some point the bills have to be paid. The problem with a majority of people by the time they woke up the damage was done. Now if you want to beat your drum that Obama caused all this who is the one not living in reality??? I plainly stated that about racked up 5 trillion but was handed a debt of 12 (which you failed to understand). Go ahead and keep your head under the sand and blame the next president, after all that is what you are doing now. You cannot stop this monster it was let out of the bag along time ago. Simple fact are the people to blame are the ones that voted in these guys in the first place. I have only voted in three election so honestly I take no part in what happened in the past. However, there are more than a few on this forum that moan and complain day after day yet they voted these heavy spending monster in. So it called blame those people! The first President that almost tripled the debt should have been enough but oh wait they let three other ones do right behind them. hypocrits

In June, there were 3.9 million job openings, including fast food.
Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey News Release
About 400k of those are "accomodation and food industry. Not all of those are minimum wage, of course, but a good chunk will be. So subtract these openings from the total, because according to some people here those jobs are for lazy idiots and if you have one you fail at life. Call it 3.7 million maybe.

There are 11.5 million unemployed people. And as the right-wingers love to point out, "real" unemployment is higher due to people who have stopped looking, and those who are "underemployed." (like many of these minimum wage workers you all seem to despise so much) Let's pretend you can fill every job opening instantly.

So what is your magic free market bootstraps idea for those other 8 million (or more) people?

Economic expansion due to increased demand would take care of the rest of them.

Either way, we are still talking about a shrinking of the unemployment figure of 33%. That's not exactly peanuts.

Let me know how chemo goes.

I'm 44 and have been in my career for 26 years. A little long in the tooth to be starting medical school. My gig is auto repair and I'm very good at it. In fact I just did some rebranding for my shop, my sign has a cartoon sick car on it with a doctor in a lab coat standing next to it, under that it says "The family doctor for your car". And I where hospital scrub shirts. Seriously. My wife is a medical lab tech.

And where will these mythical high-paying jobs, that apparently everyone can have if they just work harder, come from?

Like I said.... Let me know how chemo goes, I wonder if your still going to be pro-business afterwards.

My God, low-wage workers using their freedom of association to attempt to bargain for an economic situation better than "work 90 hours a week if you want to eat."

The horror.

So are you supporting entry level low/no skill jobs should be a living wage?

If the no skill/first ever job pay gets increased, should the first line supervisor job also be inceased? If not, are you not devaluing the worth of the more experienced worker?

And where will these mythical high-paying jobs, that apparently everyone can have if they just work harder, come from?

As the available pool of unemployed labor shrinks and AD rises, wages go up. That's econ 101.

You do realize, there would be no chemo if it weren't for pharmaceutical companies who came out with these drugs in the first place?

Well there would be, but don't be surprised if it has something to do with hydrogen cyanide.

I am not promoting chemo, actually the opposite. Chemo Therapy is more dangerous than cancer it self. All these pro-business people seem to forget that your medical/cancer treatment is a business too. Chemo, radiation, and surgery therapies are big business and makes a lot of money, keeping people sick makes "consumers". I find it funny the hypocrisy.....

America is awash in a debt it cannot possibly repay.
The US government is not able to generate enough in taxes to run the government and service the interest on the debt.
They have no way to pay the interest, pay down the principal on the debt, and fund on going government processes.
The constant wars are being fought on more borrowed money....after all these cutbacks how can we afford some more adventures in the ME? obama will soon be asking congress for more money to fund this nonsense. Watch and see.
When you are borrowing just to pay interest, and fund current operations you are in essence bankrupt.

Our government can't even print more money. They have to borrow it from the Federal Reserve system.

The more money the Fed prints out of thin air the less the money in circulation is worth.
This process steals the money that bond holders lent to them, and destroys the value of the savings of their citizens.

And what exactly are your qualifications to make such a claim?

Just like Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2, yet you want to scream and yell about Obama! So what is your real problem because I fail to see it. You seem to have no problem with least 3 president spending money is it okay as long as they have an R behind their name?? When any Republican starts talking about out of control debt and spending I generally start laughing and pointing my finger at them, they remind me of the monkeys at the zoo! Fun to watch play around and throw s**t everywhere, but how can you take them seriously. They have never once had President cut a budget in the last 30 years!

Now they are upset with a group of workers wanting to be paid so they can cover their living expenses and have a little savings. Wow and they call themslves Americans.

I note you have yet to deal with the fact that BHO is the No.1 national debt builder.:peace

No Republican Presidents are. Again what is your real problem. You want to blame Obama for everything, like I said blind eye to the idiots Republicans elected.

I have no party allegiance. Apparently you do. I follow the data. BHO has added more to the national debt than any other POTUS. There really is no debate.:peace

No one is screaming and yelling. Settle down. Pointing to others and saying "they did it too" does not excuse misbehavior.
I'm sure just a couple of years ago when you were a little girl and you wanted to do something and your parents told you "no" and you said but EVERYONE is doing it..your parents said something like "if everybody jumped off a bridge would you do it too?"

So what is your real problem because I fail to see it.

Ok..I'll say it again;

America is awash in a debt it cannot possibly repay.
The US government is not able to generate enough in taxes to run the government and service the interest on the debt.
They have no way to pay the interest, pay down the principal on the debt, and fund on going government processes.

Just keep reading it until you can grasp the point..I even left out the obama reference just for you so you could settle down and think clearly.

You seem to have no problem with least 3 president spending money is it okay as long as they have an R behind their name??
You seem to be fixated on discrediting someone else while ignoring the present. Using the past misdeeds to justify present misdeeds is an immature evasion only a child would think is effective

When any Republican starts talking about out of control debt and spending I generally start laughing and pointing my finger at them, they remind me of the monkeys at the zoo! Hyperpartisan jargon and meaningless doubletalk.

As you get older and have more real life experience you'll see why skilled people deserve more money than unskilled.
There are reasons that cadillacs cost more than kias.

Greetings, P. Kersey. :2wave:

We have been debating the pros and cons of raising the minimum wage by a little under $2.00 for a long time. The McDonald's employees in NYC want to double their minimum wage to $15.00 an hour! How many of us can ask our employer to double our hourly wage without looking like we're crazy? I realize it costs a lot to live in NYC, but c'mon! It's unreasonable. I never thought I'd live to see the day when a person couldn't afford to eat at a McDonalds! It will be interesting to see what happens next!
