McJobs and the Minimum Wage[W:123,226]

and then share with us what the construction company does to retain its help
or like the other fellow who pleads with us to think, do you believe that company will simply close its doors

No it will; be forced to pay higher wages to entry level employees. The result of course is that buildings will cost more, and that triumphant burger flipping wage increaser will STILL not ever be able to afford that house they so desperately want to live in.

Nope, they in turn to entice employees will have to raise their wage as well, and that will be passed along in pricing...So great, more economy killing measures....Don't things cost enough already?

What do you think the new pay scale will be for fast food workers who have put in the time, and have been rewarded with pay raises?

Think they should be paid more than the newbie who doesn't know how to sweep the floor yet?

the fellow with time in grade, does he offer more for the employer than the new guy who just showed up? if yes, pay him more
if no, then don't

see how easy that was?

BHO is already responsible for more national debt than any other POTUS, and on the day he leaves office on 20 January 2017 he will be responsible for more national debt than all other Presidents combined.

Ummm 5 trillion as of now when he went into office it was 12 trillion so where are you getting your numbers??? Your statement has been proven false so many time it not even funny. Care to go search or google it. So you simply turn a bling eye to Republican spending thats okay???

Doesn't matter anyway.. Fast food is never going to up their wages above the minimum they can get away with. The skill set isn't there. Tere will always be someone like me when I was 16 that would gladly flip burgers for $7.25 an hour. All this will accomplish is the older employees with too much pride and an option to collect welfare will simply quit, and be replaced immediately by a snot nosed no nothing teenager.

Don't like minimum wage? Go to school and learn a skill to market yourself. McDonald's is entry level, low skill required work, they can hire and train just about anyone. You don't need to know a special skill, have a focused education or certification or anything else. As such, the job would remain and be worth minimum wage at the roughly $7 rate. You shouldn't be promised a "living wage." If the reimbursement for your labor is too low then reject the job offer and go somewhere else that will pay you better. If you have to then work 50-60+ hours making minimum wage to manage your bills or find roommates and split living expenses. You shouldn't be somehow owed or expecting $15 an hour for low skill job like working as an entry level staff member at a fast food joint.

If they protest I hope universities, trade schools, or companies wanting to train individuals on a skill show up to educate these people on opportunities to make themselves a better job candidate and market themselves as a skilled and educated worker.

What's funny is that a first year Electrician Apprentice makes between $12-15 an hour....and a burger flipper thinks he's worth the same pay.

Previous champ was GWB at about $5T. BHO has surpassed $6T and moving on.

it sure is nice of you to publicly announce that you refuse to accept any wage increase while the economy is down
wouldn't want your increased wages to make goods and/or services more costly
what a patriot. your self sacrifice so the rest of us can afford to buy more stuff
i publicly thank you for your willingness to put your own self last out of consideration for the rest of us. what a guy!

when i read/hear about places such as australia with a high minimum wage, i also notice that there is a broad middle class
wonder if one has something to do with the other?

To say? Yes.

That's why someone in in the past came up with the phrase, "talk is cheap".

I think they were trying to come up with a more agreeable way to say "worthless".

actually, i rather enjoy pointing out the stupidity that many folks inflict upon the rest of us
a major reason why i am here
and thank you for offering so much to work with

Food is a lost leader at McDonalds. They make all of their profit from sodas. A large soda, with syrup, ice, water and cup lid and straw probably costs them a quarter and they sell it for a buck and a half or so. When Burger King ran their Whopper jr special for a dollar, lots of franchisees companied that the burger cost them a dollar ten to make. Wiki answers says the average profit margin for a McDonald's franchise is 10%. I'm going to assume that's net profit.
As a former restaurant owner, I know this to be correct. I've been out of the industry for many years, so I don't have the exact numbers at hand, but I know the concept is absolutely correct. Food is a loss leader, and the money is in drinks, etc.

Actually, for a restaurant, a 10% profit isn't bad.

I don't think they'll get anywhere near the wage increase they're seeking, but if they do all I have to say is that I better never... ever... get the wrong order ever again. All excuses will be off the table. And that is *IF* I'm even still going. I might feel the food has been priced out of my price range and is beyond its worth due to the high wages.

I see. So even though I have said none of those things because I am a conservative you assume that is what I think? You are missing an important point. Wages are not based on what people "deserve", they are based on market principles and productivity. I own a business, I guarantee I did not start it in order to provide living wages. Businesses exist to make a profit, and labor is one of the expenses. It does not matter if the guy sweeping the floor is a high school kid or a 40 year old immigrant with 10 children, the value of the job is the same. As luck would have it we are all free to pursue any career field we want to and are free to advance as far as possible based on what we are capable of producing. Any one of these minimum wage earners is free to start their own business if they prefer. It takes a lot of hard work though. Maybe that's why they prefer to strike for $15 an hour for low skilled work rather than strike out on their own.

Yes this is also true for pharmaceutical companies. Why actually help sick people get healthy, when you can make a bunch of cash with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. When you walk into that cancer institution for "help", Just remember Its Just Business
