Hasan has been sentenced to Death [W:198,239]

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

Ask the oil companies? It's working out fine for them and that was the whole point of being there.

Why would I ask the oil companies? It was you who made the statement.

And I'm correct. For the people who wanted us there, because they have oil, it's just fine and dandy. When the oil is gone, we won't give a damn what happens there.

You seem to be making a case for terrorism. Lets stick to the topic of the scumbag Hasan.

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

No, it removes the burden from society to keep human garbage from being fed, clothed and housed forever.

Htf can you say "no". These are FACTS:

(1) The death penalty does not deter crime, overwhelming statistical evidence establishes this beyond any question.
(2) The death penalty provides justification for the rationalization of murder, thereby encouraging murder.

Now that your meek little "no" has been smashed like a bug, let's move on to the BS spewed after... The death penalty costs MORE than a life sentence. So spare us the "removes the burden from society".

Killing is too heavy a weight for the scales of justice.

Rope is reusable, electricity, bullets and toxins are not very expensive. What is expensive is the never ending appeals process added to keep the DP very, very rarely actually used. To assert that a sentence for first degree murder that used for less than 2% of all first degree murder convictions is "not a deterent" ignores this indisputable fact: not one person ever executed has committed another crime after the death sentence was carried out.

So your answer is a fantasy land? Why not just become a commie.

Neither has someone serving a life sentence, except inmates. That's extremely rare for close custody inmates and occurs among the worst offenders. You can't use crime involving cc inmates as a negative, because they'd be dead if it were up to you and that's certainly worse.

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

That makes him a traitor, not a terrorist. The troops being unarmed makes it a war crime.

Did you miss this post, wherein I quoted your INCORRECT statement:

Read carefully:

He targeted civilians.

Read it carefully, and then look up the definition of "target". If you accomplish those two things, you might stop presenting an embarrassingly ignorant and false argument.

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

I don't care what a dictionary says. Shooting enemy soldiers in a war doesn't count as terrorism. We're still calling this a war, right?

Because, hey, by your definition I'm pretty sure our soldiers count as terrorists. We were certainly coercing or intimidating Saddam Hussein's regime out of power through violence and threats of violence. Oh, but that's "lawful" because we said it was?

Exchanging email with a terrorist doesn't make you a terrorist. Mowing Osama Bin Laden's lawn doesn't make you a terrorist. Committing an act of terror makes you a terrorist, and shooting soldiers doesn't fit the bill.

He cannot claim foreign or opposing soldier status in terms of "killing enemy soldiers" as he was not wearing an opposing uniform. In your logic of "killing enemy soldiers" then he falls into the category of being a spy and spys are shot.

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

So it's not a deterrent and it encourages murder.

How does the death penalty encourage murder?

It is a deterrent to him harming anyone again and deterrence isn't the sole goal of a sentence.

Let's not play dumb. When discussing deterrence, we are addressing murder in society (not recidivism). Of course, a life sentence cannot commit additional crimes in society.

Well they are certainly involving themselves in the affairs of the democracies. Would you like to see an end to Muslim immigration?

The important thing to remember is that there are plenty of Muslims in the world who are more mainstream. I had a husband and wife Muslim couple as neighbors once. They BOTH went to work every day, they kept to themselves and, although I never really had more than casual pleasantries with them, they seemed to be nice people.

So no, I wouldn't put an end to Muslim immigration. I understand that extremism is rampant in this particular religion more so than others, but usually the extremists come from directly from the most poor and uneducated parts of the Middle East.

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

Maybe the thing to do is create greater martyrdom until the desire to be a martyr begins to fade. They're probably running low on virgins already.

Some realistic ideas might be nice Grant. :)

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

There are people born every day who love their freedom as well.

I'm aware of that. Point being?

Re: Hasan was been sentenced to Death.

Including atheists and agnostics too, I suppose.

Sure, but not for the same reasons. People are people, some people are just hampered by really stupid, irrational beliefs.

Yeah, like blaming religion for stuff.

Yeah, like blaming religion for stuff.

Belief systems, especially irrational belief systems, can influence people to take illogical actions and therefore are at least partially to blame for those actions. There are lots of things that occur for which, if religion was not involved, those actions could not logically have happened.

Stop being an apologist and deal with the fact that religion is not necessarily a positive.

Also, if he was 'killing enemy soldiers", who is the enemy of these soldiers?

There are millions of Muslims who are nice people and, according to statistics, many millions who are not.

Actually most of the terrorists are very well educated, such as in 9/11, 7/7 and , more recently, in Boston. And the topic of this discussion was extremely well educated.

Nor is the lack of religion. It's after they're incarcerated that most of the prisoners 'find God'.

Sure, like a person that blames inanimate objects, such as religion (or guns), for harm in the world. It's crazy, no doubt.

The US has made itself a worldwide target by many of its actions. The cows do come home still.

I would say "some" are educated, most are not.
