Some school districts quit healthier lunch program

Let's be honest, there was probably some interest group for healthy foods and I'm sure some donation was made to Obama.

No, I doubt that. While the new food changes are healthier, I'd hardly call it health food. I've not seen menus with things like flax seed, quinoa, almonds, nutritional yeast, etc.

yes and they continued to carry on eating that kind of food into adulthood and became fatter the older they got. Maybe if they had been taught about healthy foods and exposed to it they might have thought twice about that big mac.

And isn't that the parents decision and not the states when has the state become the parent of your child? are you not capable to parent your own child there for surrender your right to do so to the state?

Is there a document that shows some of these menus?

It is called allowing the parents of the children to decide what is best for their children and not allowing the state to make that decision. it called surrendering your right to allow the state to make that decision on your behalf that you have been programmed to do.
You have become children of the state there for you are dependent of your state that will never experience true freedom as long as you are dependent of the state just like children dont have true freedom

Well actually our healthy school dinners program had nothing to do with the Gov it was spearheaded by a chef called Jamie Oliver and in the UK you can still pack your kids lunch for them and when they go to high school you can give them money to leave school and buy lunch for themselves. Why should the tax payer have to pay for other childrens bad eating habits/ bad parenting?

I carried that into adulthood and I am by no means fat. Six Feet, 180 lbs. According the the CDC I am normal.

yes but unfourtuntly not everyone does which is why obesity is a huge problem in the western world.

Oh yes, Jamie Oliver, that was his name. He was an absolute idiot when he did that show over here.

I agree. When my wife turned 40 she decided to drop a few pounds and get in better shape. She made some dietary changes (not a diet, that is temporary as are the results) and joined a gym. And she stuck with it. She looks great and feels better. Here are some surprising things I discovered about food:

Tortillas are an excellent substitute for other kinds of bread.
Avocados are awesome.
Grilling vegetables changes them completely and you can use a pump sprayer for olive oil.
I... love turkey burgers. With steak seasoning.
Wheat Thins and Triscuits are better than fried chips.
Hummus is actually really good. Frozen yogurt has come a looooong way.
And perhaps more importantly:

If you change some of the little things you can still drink beer and eat bacon at 44 years old without getting fat or pissing off your wife.

I actually prefer turkey burgers, where I would have guessed I wouldn't care for them at all and frozen yogurt has come a long way.

What is interesting is if a person is weened off fried foods, corn-sugar drinks, fried chips, greasy burgers etc those come to be increasingly repulsive if you then eat it.

We were traveling a few weeks ago late at night, and lacking any other place to get food pulled into a Wendy's and got a couple burgers and fries. About 4 bites later both were in the trash by both of us. They might as well have been lard spread over white bread with a heavy layer of salt on it.

My wife believes a main reason people are becoming so overweight is because their meals are so lacking in essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients a person's body needs. So in response the mind/body keeps desperately wanting a person to eat more, more, more - not for calories but desperately seeking those essential nutrients. Once a person's body's needs are met in those regards, the constant desire to eat will diminish. Yet before her I lived almost entirely on a junk food diet.

For a while, my oldest daughter decided to be a vegetarian. She kept it up for about 2 years. One of the first things she did was raise an issue with the school over it's menu, basically demanding a vegetarian option. While the school wouldn't have had to, she actually pulled it off.

At the home front, this also poised a real challenge for my wife who takes her kitchen VERY seriously! The expansion of our menu as a result expanded dramatically and for the better. There's nothing wrong with "meat, flour, sugar/fruitous and potatoes." But that is about the only thing many people eat. Ever.

There is at least one school district, near Chicago I believe, that bans lunches brought from home.

Even more proof that parents are lazy cows. If my son's school came up with such a rule the administrators and I would be having a Come to Jesus Moment. What self respecting parent would allow school administrators to tell them what they could feed their own kids?

why should my tax money being used to promote some health nuts agenda.
what is next no meat allowed at school lunch because the next administration is a vegetarian? Or pork is banned because you next administration is Muslim which i can easily see happening very soon in the UK. your children will be required to wear burkas to school, but you will be alright with that because your been programmed to allow the state to make those decisions for you

where do you draw the line?

Oh no, you might not get to eat meat on certain days of the week! The horror!

Yeh trying to educate the public about the crap kids were eating in their tax payer funded school systems and tried to get people to eat healthier in the most obese country on earth....what an idiot

 It isn't because of the food.

That makes sense. We buy the majority of our meat from a friend of mine who has a local farm. Cows, pigs and chickens pasture fed with a bare minimum of antibiotics and no added hormones. It's a little more expensive but we end up eating less meat. We didn't try to, it just worked out that way. It's more satisfying. Tastes better too.

wow you have a very limited knowledge of the UK.

But back to school dinners you draw the line at healthy balanced dinners. Make sure the kids have a protein, veggies etc on their plate. Drinking water instead of soda, fruit instead of candy etc. Its ironic conservatives get angry about food stamps being spent on junk food but in the school sytems its fine. lol.
