    If you look at the generations, who ate the same types of foods, you will see it isn't food that is the problem. It's a ridiculous notion. People aren't active and are lazy, THAT is the problem.

    I have two kids is elementary school and we pack them a lunch every day. I must say it is nice to see one government induced problem that doesn't impact me directly for a change.

    But to go back to the "har har, kids are fat! Feed them less!" arguments, it's lack of exercise that leads to childhood obesity more than the calories consumed. Give the kids food they'll eat and bring back Physical Education.

    If I were the bleeding heart type I would point out that a lot of these kids don't get a lot of food at home, so giving them sufficient calories while in school is a good idea. Good thing I'm not a bleeding heart.

    what generations are you talking about? 2 generations ago people ate local fresh food and fast food was barley invented. Nowdays most of our food is processed and made in factoires, wake up the food industry changed.

    I would think it's worth the extra $$. We found the better we eat at home, the less we want to eat out - and ultimately higher priced but better groceries costs us less in the long run. Junk food really isn't cheap. I also think bad or low grade food can affect a person even mentally.

    As far as I can remember, the new guidelines are a bit lower calorie too.
