Oh,...ok....When should we take note? When the number reaches 10,000? 100,000? OR, should we look at what they are being formed to do?

    Blah, blah, blah.
    Watch out! It's Hitler!

Yep, Hitler analogies are overused, almost as much as racist labels these days....Those who do not learn history, are doomed to repeat it. Ask the Coptic Christians in Egypt these days.

hawking hyperbole is something different than taking note
We can take note whenever we like.
But comparing 86 guys to an army and comparing Obama to Hitler isn't really taking note of what is happening in the world. It's hyperventilating.

Almost as bad as the Obamabots do it.

"He kicked kittens," is a demonstration.
    Your sig nails it.

Perhaps you might want to read this, with the attached links, before you get too comfortable with the benign big government idea.

It seems that the good old days of people's instinctive mistrust of big and powerful governments has largely disappeared. In it's place we have people wanting more of it, despite the lessons of histroy being readily available in a library or the internet.

In fact everywhere except, perhaps, the public school system.

Being skeptical of wild-eyed comparisons coming from a person is entirely compatible with being wary of what people say. Because the govt is made up of people, being skeptical of wild-eyed comparisons imp-lies being skeptical of govt. Why should I turn off my skepticism just because someone has a .gov e-mail address?

86 federal agents is so far removed from being a "force just as big, just as well armed as the US military"
To me, it seems quite possible to acknowledge that 86 detectives is a far cry from 1.4 million while retaining a basic wariness of govt which extends from a basic wariness of people. If anything, acknowledging that people can get hyperbolic and hyperventilate reinforces the idea that the things people say need to be scrutinized before accepting them. And govt is made up of people.

Pointing out that someone is exaggerating when they compare 86 guys to the US Military is something different than accepting "benign big government." It is also something different than trusting govt.

    Of course, ymmv.

Also, fwiw, I don't think that the level of mistrust of govt in general population has changed all that much. I just think that the steep increase in distrust of political parties and their operatives has changed how that attitude presents.
    I may be wrong.

I think it's laid out pretty clear in the article. Maybe you should read it past the word that annoys you.
