Bradley Manning is now Chelsea Manning [W:148]

"some of their rights"

Define "some."

Rational is not so rational is it when you have to work to define...

I gave you 3, the first, the second, and the fourth.

If I was Snowden I would have been in the US by now....

Well unless the US government is pulling a "Total Recall" on its participants.

I think that the last thing that the administration wants is Snowden back in the US and in a press conference.

He did not give up all he knows.

Progressives are still confused...

Progressives are always confused. But that has nothing to do with the Manning case.

Auntie S. pretty much spelled out my position in #145.

In high school I knew a transgender person, who at the time had not 'come out'. I believe I jokingly called her "queer" at one point. Several suicide attempts and years of counseling later, I found this out after she had announced her transition. Being gay I thought I would have been more sensitive to that. Yet I managed to cause someone incredible harm, and contribute to someone potentially ending their life.

So please, go ahead. I don't mind you bashing people suffering from psychiatric disorders. Who are you going to attack next? I bet you can crack some really cruel jokes about people suffering from anorexia or depression, huh?

You really seem to have mental problems.

This person is a man. This person has not started living as a woman in any way so he is a he until such time as he takes steps to change that.

You are just trying to show some unwarranted sensetivity where it is not needed.

Also you know nothing about me and I wasn't bashing anybody. I was asking you a question.

I would hope you would read the words on the page and not what you think they mean.

You get it - but it does have to do with the Manning case...

Amish Mafia....

the guy is an idiot. in a fit of anger he made a random data dump of thousands and thousands of pages of stuff that he didn't even know what most of it was. That's why I find it impossible to attribute any altruistic motives to his actions or consider him a whistleblower...much less a "hero" as some have claimed.

Have you ever Heard a more stupid excuse?

He was confused about his gender so he did this.

Somebody please show me connection between the two.

It's the same BS victim excuse you see everywhere nowadays.

I think it is a Little more than that.

Everywhere you look the gay issue is right there. TV, movies, and everywhere else.

Maybe he thought with the comapassion for gay marriage, he would get a lighter sentence.

Why on earth would Obama need his own army? If things get that bad, are they to be used to protect him and his family, instead of the Secret Service? With nearly everyone in America having guns these days, what good will that do?

Also, while I realize that everyone can't be shown in a picture, I don't see one white face here. Isn't that kinda racist?

Good afternoon from the Left Coast Polgara. :2wave:

President Obama already signed his Obama Civil Security Corps into law. Obama said it will be larger than the U.S. military.

Why would "Big Sis" (Janet Napolitano, Sec. of DHS) purchase 1.6 billions rounds of small arms ammunition ? That's more ammunition than needed to put three rounds in the heads of every man, woman and child in America. :shoot

What's Obama up to ?

I would pity the fool who let it be known in prison that he wanted to transition to a woman. I think he'd have a lot of unexpected help.

Big Bubba to the rescue!!

Honestly he's just playing the "attention card"- I say give him solitary confinement, water and bread, and call it a day..

**** solitary. let him take his chances in general pop.

Having a friend that had to go through this, I know it's hard for Manning to deal with being a man when he/she wants to be a woman.
However, he could have gotten this surgery had he not BROKEN THE FRIKKIN LAW as well. Sorry, but when you break the law, you get a lot of your freedoms taken away.

Gotta agree with you being a transexual myself the last thing I ever wanted to do was break the law. I support what she is doing! However, she did break the law and wether I agree with her doing it or not the law is the law. I think if this was that important to her she would have done her military stint and started her transition afterwards.

Here's my question, and I guess it's a legal one at its heart. If Bradley Manning is pre-op, then correctly--in court documents and medical records--isn't it incorrect to refer to him as "Chelsea"/she?

Legally your are correct unless she changes her name. However, depending on what state she does this in she will have to show that she is committed to the life changes. Her birth certificate can be changed in some states. Right now it is a respect thing from the media. Wether or not anyone else follows that is their choice. Now it is correct to refer to her as Chelsea and use female pronouns as a matter of respect.

Respect for what?

I am just curious.

If Bradley Manning said he wanted to be a dog, would you refer to him as a dog out of respect.

He is as much a dog as a woman.

This man has taken no steps other than a few words to change his sexual identity, so referring to him as Chelsea or she is premature at best.

I guess we could call him a bitch then..LOL.

I just can't do it until he's living as a woman and doing the required do, including the counseling. I am eager to be respectful, but I want to be correct. For the same reason (Rant: in contrast to school kids these days who call all their female teachers "Mrs." even if they're single, and I don't know why, after 35+ years "Ms." isn't demanded by all women, at least in the workplace), I don't refer to single women by the honorific "Mrs."

BTW, Greengirl, if you're unfamiliar with this case, which IMO should NOT have been dismissed because many of Jamie Faucon's complaints were legit, one of her issues was her fellow firefighters, including one who had been the best man at her wedding ten years before, was that she was constantly being referred to as "he."

That was the bogus part of her suit, I thought. You can't expect people you've worked as a man with for ten years to immediately adjust to "she."

Transgendered firefighter's discrimination case dismissed

Respect for what?

That is really up to you! No where did I say you ad to respect her wishes call her whatever you want! I do not agree with the crime he committed anymore than most people, however when it comes to her life choice it is what it is.
