Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.[W:123]

I think he's playing that card so he can end up in a different wing, perhaps the women's wing, perhaps in his mind this will protect him from the other prisoners. Pathetic.

Whatever. Let s/he be whoever s/he wants; s/he is still in jail.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

I've read that there are more incidents of male-on-male rape in the military than in federal prison.

With DNA testing I don't understand how anyone in any prison can get away with rape.

Intimidation by the inmates and weird administrators who don't comprehend the idea of male-on-male rape or don't care (I think the latter is far less common than it was 20 years ago).

Also, I think prison rape is most often perpetrated by men who are already serving long sentences. Tacking on time for another offense doesn't matter that much to them.

Heya GH :2wave: I doubt it.....more than likely he will be placed into Solitary Confinement. If he was hoping to change his sex and get put into a Woman's Military prison. It wont happen.

Although if his attorneys are all going to push for a Pardon by Obama. Then all Vets should write Obama telling him he has no reason to pardon a traitor.

I'm ok with SC, I'm just wondering if he is just acting up for attention.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

He should spend life in prison. And not one penny of US tax payer money spent on so called hormone therapy. If any therapy then therapy to get him to settle with the fact that he has a dick and thus is a guy, period.

Me thinks he will often have more than one dick come prison time

Truthfully I don't even know why they put up all that crap on him changing his sex, and name. The real fact of the matter is.....he hasn't legally changed his name. So it's a non-story from the get go. At least on that part. Be different if he would have legally changed his name. Or if his attorney had filed to so.

Which his attorney has not done so.....in all this time. <<<<< Means a way to go after this attorney on this.

Looks like this will be his next issue and who he will play patsy for.....do you think if he was ever released from prison. That he would last more than a month without someone coming along and taking him out?

Bradley Manning, the Army private who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for disclosing highly damaging national intelligence, now wants to live the rest of his life as a woman. In order to do so, however, he wants expensive surgery and hormone treatments, none of which the government is likely to provide him at Ft. Leavenworth, where he will serve his prison term.

Manning, who now wishes to be called Chelsea, is clearly a troubled young man -- and yes, no matter how feminine he "feels," he is a man. Surgery and drugs may transform his physical appearance, but no amount of surgery or hormones changes an individual born with a Y chromosome into a female.

Manning will have to wait for the transformation he seeks, but not as long as his sentence suggests. He'll be up for parole in about 8 years.

Some states allow transgendered individuals to officially change their gender identification on government IDs, but that hardly solves the problem. In some arenas, such as employment, deciding to live as a member of the opposite sex wouldn't seem to make a huge difference. Because employers already are forbidden from discriminating on the basis of sex, it probably shouldn't matter if accountant or salesperson Robert shows up to work one day as Roberta.

But what about employment in which gender is pertinent to the job? Should a male TSA agent one day be able to pat down female travelers because he changed his sexual identity? Should parents of elementary school children have to explain to their kids why Mr. Jones is now Ms. Jones? Sex may be largely irrelevant to most jobs, but not in every case.....snip~

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

seems kind of high for what I know about the case, but whatev's. Obama will pardon him as a hero in January 2016

That would not surprise me in the least.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Soldiers and politicians honor the Constitution and that starts with "WE THE PEOPLE" NOT "WE THE GOVERNMENT."

GO learn something - Manning was upholding the Constitution.

You ever bother to think the government IS a domestic enemy??? - It's our government that are violating the Constitution every day.

Doesn't it concern you that Manning didn't know what he was releasing?

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Anyone read the information that got leaked?

The diplomatic cables were super interesting. Embarrassing, but they showed that our diplomats are doing their jobs and doing them well. He caused problems with our allies, but there was some benefit in seeing that our people are indeed quite competent at sizing up who they're dealing with.

The war logs and video showed that the American People were being lied to about the course of the wars. The release of actual names was bad though. That should have been redacted before Manning or anyone else released it.

Manning did some damage, but I feel overall, it's exaggerated. He did violate this oath though.

Snowden I feel is going to do more damage. Way more damage.

But again, if you see it as a positive, Mannng didn't know what he was releasing. It could just have easily been information that lead directly to American deaths. Would that have been OK?

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Can someone refresh me on what this guys crimes are that deserves the 35 years?

It seems he just was a whistleblower, I'm just not understanding what more there is to it.

I don't know the details, maybe he released it the wrong way that was criminal... In which case he deserves to go to jail, but I thought that blowing the whistle on wrong doing was like a duty, not something to be vilified?

I think better questions to consider would be; how come there are so many whistleblowers lately? And how come the government is acting to crack down on those whistleblowers??

But, maybe I've just missed the facts of the case that show this man guilty...

Wouldn't the term whistleblower imply intent?

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

Mornin SN. :2wave:
Actually.....it can be. Once he legally changes his birth certificate. Until then.....he is Bradley Manning.

Myself.....I just go with Traitor Manning. This way there is no confusion as to what he or she is
.

I just took a second look at the BBC piece. Actually,Bradley Manning said "I am Chelsea Manning."

So it sounds like Manning thinks it's a done deal.

Yeah.....well when he can legally produce ID's and Birth certificate that says.....he is now Chelsea Manning. Then it will be legal by law. Until then his talk is still him doing the talk. ;)

In this, Manning is wrong. As far as the Army is concerned he will remain Bradley Manning for the duration of his sentence. His cell mates, on the other hand, may be perfectly happy to treat him as Chelsea.

I have no doubt that he will be someone's Chelsea for sure...

So you think that there is a special someone waiting for Manning at Leavenworth?

Looks like this story has legs.

I'm sure he'll become someone's bytch soon.

Kinda looks like everyone involved in this kerfuffle, including Manning's future cellmate got (Or will get) at least part of what they wanted.

A classic win-win out come.

No, it wouldn't have. But it still doesn't change that what Manning released was ultimately small potatoes.

Snowden knows how our intelligence capturing operations work. That is way more dangerous.

Re: Bradley Manning sentenced to 35 years.

What amazes me about snowden is that he was a whistleblower in freedom land and goes to find refuge in the aftermath in the land of Russia.

Well, goes to show you how much America has changed. Snowden I think did the right thing in letting the American public know just how much they're being spied on, and I can understand why he fled, but at the same time, Russia? Not cool man. Don't go running there.
