If we as a society have deemed that juveniles do not have the mental capacity to make wise decisions about drinking, voting and gambling, why would we assume that they have the same mental capacity as adults when it comes to using good judgement in other matters? We either should be treating kids as adults for all purposes or we should treat them differently from adults. It is nothing short of hypocrisy to say well...in some cases we will treat them one way and treat them differently in others based on the same rationale.

what is ignorant is pretending that a failure to adopt the predominant language will likely not stymie one's opportunity for economic success

These three kids are not "kids", but hardened thugs who seem willing to kill. Lock them up, and throw away the key. "Sorry" doesn't begin to absolve them of their pathetic behaviour.

He was speaking English - that is the predominant language of his community. Are you confusing dialect and language? Those are two separate things.

See above. It strikes me that you are ignorant about the difference between a dialect and a language. That's a pretty serious problem, particularly when you're attempting to have a conversation about how people speak. I would suggest that when it comes to calling people ignorant you not throw stones living in that glass house.

but it declines into racism when their ethnicities become the focus of an incident which was not itself the result of racial differences

They need to be prosecuted...and "I'm sorry" doesn't mean you shouldn't face the consequences of your actions...but why should they be tried as adults? Kids get beat up in school all the time. Even group beatings aren't out of the ordinary extreme crime.

which difference impairs his opportunity for economic advancement
no matter how much you object to that reality, it remains reality

There is no such thing as "proper" English. There is Standard English and other dialects like AAVE, SAE and many others. The phrase "proper English" is just a prejudicial value judgment that favors Standard English over other types. That prejudice is one of the reasons black people, Southerners, Hispanics and others are looked down as stupid by much of society. People assume the use of certain dialects is an indicator of intelligence, work ethic, et al..

You don't know the difference between a language and a dialect. Please educate yourself on basic linguistics before you try to have another conversation about the topic. I can't talk to someone who lacks such basic knowledge.

All three need to be sent to Military School. Teach them discipline that they are either not getting at home. Teach them to be part of something bigger than themselves. Take pride in yourself and others will show you respect. I would say show them team work, but from the video it looks like they got that part figured out.

This is the best rehab these boys are going to get in my opinion. Otherwise we will likely be paying for them to sit in prison after they do something similar as adults.

This is why I don't understand people train of thought here. How many of us growing up saw kids get beat up in school by a group of kids or bullies? Is this the new norm now? You get into a fight and beat another kid up and now you will see jail time?

Is this the best solution with our tax dollars? Throw these kids to the wolves???? Hell Expell their a**es. But don't take their lives away.

the reality is the man uses language which impairs his ability for economic attainment

your refusal to acknowledge that amplifies what is often found within the black community. the use of ebonics and a refusal to adopt the predominate language of the community handicaps those who find no reason to change their spoken and written language

Perhaps the responses are due to the violent nature of their attack.

Normal 14 year old kids don't attempt to physically eliminate another human being with their bare hands and feet. Their documented attempt to do so identifies them as something unusual: an aberration.

Society is right to demand lifelong protection from these "people".

what al 'tawanna brawley' sharpton, jesse 'hymietown' jackson, or any other race baiters would do has no bearing on this matter
this was not a racially motivated incident
if the kid who ratted them out had been black, he would have gotten his ass beaten by the three perps, too
