Why Hillary Clinton is going after voter ID laws?

They used to vote on this last Sunday before the election. We know the game. It cost you the last election. Just more mind games by repups to use the old Nixon strategy of make it as a negative as you can. Drive up the negatives on Dems, as we see with Mrs. Clinton right now.

You don't appear to have made a point here. Are you sure you're on the right thread?

She even managed to play the race card.

People engage in racist behavior, they get called on it, and that's playing the race card? :doh ... come on, the GOP has written off or alienated the fastest growing and youngest voter groups ... all they got left is voter suppression and they need to be called on it ... and, yes, one of the groups they've targeted is blacks ... another is Latinos ... I wish them luck with that strategy ...

Point 1) Votes lost due to not being able to vote that Sunday, maybe. But you knew that and we keep playing this silly game of 10th amendment/civil war mentality. Point 2) What does "it cost you the last election" by trying to cheat do you not get? Every sentence had at least one point.

What 'voter suppression' are you referring to? Whose vote is being suppressed? Hillary, like every recent Democrat candidate, has to play the race card. She is her own moral free zone.

Sorry, but the rationale behind the voter ID laws is chasing a problem that doesn't exist, all the meanwhile making it more difficult and more expensive (for taxpayers, recipients of free/reduced fee IDs, and those who have to pay normal fees) for explicitly legitimate voters to vote as they had previously. What's the pressing need to do more harm than any potential good? Forget about the discussion of minority civil rights for a moment. To me it's just bad public policy.

I'm the last person to try to stop you guys from going over the cliff with this crap ... FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Is this your idea of debate? Perhaps you're missing the point of this website.

No, its not my idea ... others came up with it ... and, no, I'm not missing the point of the "website." Any other questions?

Why Hillary Clinton is going after voter ID laws

The former (and future?) presidential candidate just made her most overtly political speech since stepping down as the nation's top diplomat

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ended a self-imposed political hiatus on Monday, slamming Republican-backed voter ID laws in a biting speech in San Francisco.

Clinton said the Supreme Court in June had done serious damage with its landmark Voting Rights Act ruling, which cleared the way for states with a history of discrimination to tighten voting laws without federal approval. She also denounced voter ID laws pushed through by state legislatures controlled by the GOP, saying they were being justified as tools to fight the "phantom epidemic of voter fraud," but really just made it harder for minorities and the poor to exercise their voting rights. She referred to North Carolina's new election rules, which were signed into law by Republican Gov. Pat McCrory this week, as the "greatest hits of voter suppression."

She's trying to lock up the black vote in the primaries. I'm waiting for her "I ain't nowhears near taired"speech she gave at Selma again.

There is absolutely no shame in this woman. I cannot understand why people allow themselves to be talked down to like that.

I can understand her big lies, like Benghazi, but why does she lie about the small stuff? Hillary comes clean about Sir Edmund

Are you making the claim that people who go to Church on Sunday, and there are millions of them, won't be able to vote?

Never said that. It is political stonewalling simply to disrupt how people vote so it's harder for certain people while there is no adjusting for the people who generally vote for you. It's really obvious stuff and the GOP have been practicing it for years. There is no protections or gains from doing this. It's basically ****ing with voters for personal gain.

Tea Party leader Ken Emanuelson said at a Dallas County Republican Party event on May 20. “I’m going to be real honest with you. The Republican Party doesn’t want black people to vote if they are going to vote 9-to-1 for Democrats.”

Then of course one of the architects of the modern day GOP quite candidly laid it out there point blank.

What's been common knowledge to everyone for decades is now just being acted upon with vigor by the GOP. People in here trying to deflect or deny this are extremely naive or just being intellectually dishonest.

Its called Souls to the Polls. African Americans often go to church on Sunday then turn out to the polls in huge numbers. These are the folks that these NC politicians are trying to keep from making a difference.

So what's the difference between White people going to Church on Sunday and being able to vote and Black people going to Church on Sunday and being able to vote? People can still go to Church on Sunday and vote, can't they?

not exactly. they are shutting down Sunday voting so chronologically speaking, they can't go to church then when church is over... go vote. whites could vote on Sunday as well. it just so happens to be rather a big tradition in the black community which is why it is being shut down by the GOP, because "the GOP does not want black people to vote." Their words not mine.

How ? By telling them they need to present the same ID they used to drive to church with ?

And how are these churches maintaining their tax expempt status if they're participating in political organized events for one party ?

Sorry, the false narrative of restricting voter rights fell on its face and Hillary and Bill are being exposed as the low life human beings they are.

And by the New York Times no less.

Making millions through altruism......

Yep, that sounds like the Clintons alright.

This is what happens with propaganda and you should be very suspicious of sound bites and taking your cue from them.

I do not know if you are a propagandist or a victim of propaganda but at this point I suppose it really doesn't matter.

Here is the speech you referred to and the subject is quite different from what you claim it to be. I had never heard of this guy before but he did have influence, though not in the way you suggest in your five second clip.

Here is the full transcript of what he said. If you want to be honest, you should read it. Disagree with the man, by all means, but don't misrepresent or mislead. As you may or may not know, the speech was all about ACORN.

The GOP does not want Black people to vote? That is huge news! And you say it is in their words???

Please supply those words.

Good move politically since these laws most adversely affect African Americans.

.

In the words of one House Republican Leader in Pennsylvania.

"Voter ID, which is going to allow Gov. Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania: done," Turzai said during a Republican State Committee meeting.

In the words of one House Republican Leader in Pennsylvania.

So far the Democrats have been successful in preventing the dead in Pennsylvania from getting the rest they deserve. Many still have to show up and vote on election day.

The law has yet to be implemented there. Lawsuit after lawsuit. Never mind the same people that say they can't produce an ID to vote, have an ID for everything else.

How ? By telling them they need to present the same ID they used to drive to church with ?

Did you even read what I wrote? I didn't even mention voter ID. I wrote about shutting down early voting. So that comment was you arguing with yourself.

The don't participate in political organized events for one party. They go to vote for whomever they want. Now if you want to talk about disbanning tax exempt status for all churches... then you are preaching to the choir. I'm all about that.

I don't know if you know this but you have a habit of replying to peoples' posts without even addressing that person's post. It's bizarre in that it seems to happen a lot.
