U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law[W:82]

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

That was a nice burn. Unfortunately, I don't think he's going to understand why.

I don't really care if you, or anyone else thinks it is a "burn", what are you? Like 13? In the real world all the insults, and burns, and what ever mean nothing other than to expose that you don't want this discussed....That should be the question why?

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

Quit being a pest and start formulating an argument to debate, otherwise I'd appreciate if you'd bow out.

It would help if you understood the topic. Sangha just burned you good, it's also funny that you don't get why.

Here's a hint: You post an article that bashes the legislation. Then Sangha asks you if you support it while referencing that the majority of those who this affects enough to leave are the 1%.

So more or less put you between siding with people who have lots of money and lots of money to hide (as evident by the numerous scandals of people evading taxation illegally by using foreign accounts and not disclosing them) or disowning your own argument.

Somehow, I don't think you understand how you're being beaten here. And by Sangha.

Well this "13 year old" knows way more about the legislation then you do. Hence why I know you just got burned. See post #27.

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

And another truism coming to pass...When you unfairly try to go after the wealthy and tax their success they just leave because they can afford to do so...So who's next in the progressive push for so called "income justice"? Well, it would have to be the middle class....and they can't afford to run....Buckle up people.

Good riddance. I hope the door hit them in the ass on the way out.

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

Quit trolling.

Glad to see you still consider research, knowledge and expertise to be "trolling."

Let me ask you this: Do you think that people should be allowed to hide taxable income and assets by putting them in foreign no questions asked banks who refuse to disclose information to the US government while everyone else pays their taxes legitimately?

FYI, you should seriously start to consider researching topics before posting on them.

Yeah that's right....Just alienate the wealth of the country, and tax the rest, and we can all live in mud huts right?

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

We can't even enforce that on Mexican citizens...

I am thinking of doing so I can be an illegal alien.

Whom do you think pays the bulk of Federal tax collection in this country? You OWSers with your jealousy really make me laugh....Of course I would prefer that taxes are lower so that everyone has no reason to hide money, short of that I applaud those whom have the means to hide it....It is theirs after all, not yours.

America love it or leave it. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

As a former expat I do have some expertise on the situation. Most expats that are not in the country for if I remember correctly 330 days or so don't have to pay taxes on their income up to 97,000 this year. Considering the fact they don't really live in the country in the first place and depending on their income it may be vastly cheaper to not be a citizen hence why they do it. That and they are giving Uncle Sam the finger, which I always applaud.

Well, I have served this country, so if anyone is leaving it will be the lying progressives.

Outstanding post! And I agree.

No one is asking anyone to leave. I thought these turncoats were leaving on their own accord, renouncing citizenship. I'm saying we don't need people like them anyway. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

So now foreign banks are refusing to open accts for US citizens?

Make up stuff much?

Well, no. I don't write for Der Spiegel: Reaction to US Tax Law: European Banks Stop Serving American Customers - SPIEGEL ONLINE

This one is a bit newer, but not sure whether you consider numismatists to be biased: Foreign Banks Are Refusing Overseas Accounts for Americans :: Coin Info . com

Or perhaps something a bit more mainstream from the US: European banks oust Americans

It is ok to be ignorant about something but there is no reason to be snarky about it. Of course, you probably don't agree with Rule #4 of these Forums.

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

The top rates today are slightly, very slightly lower than the rates of the Clinton era. I paid those rates and the cheap mother****ers can pay the same or yeah, Tigger is right, bar them from drinking our blood again and let them enjoy the taxless country they found to live in instead.

Nobody likes paying taxes. Nobody.

Basically, I'll guess that FATCA (which I first heard of was now in this thread) will expose their hidden assets that aren't accounted for in their tax returns. Extradition for tax crimes probably isn't all that easy. So, good time to make the break and drink pina colada served by nubile cocktail waitresses on the beach in Spain.

I only paid taxes because I was afraid of the consequence of fibbing. I saw people get 11 years Fed time. I didn't pay them because I love my fellow citizens. I just follow the law. Paying taxes is unfortunate, but not catastrophic.

LOL!!!

You're talking about people who haven't been in the US for years.

Other European banks will take their business. You've proven nothing

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

Well, I think I've proven two things:

1. I didn't make it up and it is an issue. Now you can prove that other banks will take their business.
2. You have twice gone against Rule #4.

Well, maybe like TNE said, some of them had issues with dual citizenship in their new countries. But all I know is that this class warfare that people like you just love to rail on about is not the answer to anything other than oppression.

Class warfare?

Gee, and you said you don't have an opinion on this law

Suddenly, it's "class warfare"!! :lamo

As usual, J-Mac doesn't answer the question and goes off on a tangent.

Second, payroll taxes are primarily paid not by the wealthy, but by the working class.

How about you answer a question for once rather than deflect?

But that's not the focus of this particular law. As usual, J-Mac thanks a post that's not relevant to the law and still doesn't understand the topic.

Answer a question?

Shirley, you jest!

He won't even say that he opposes this law, even though it is obvious that he does.

Re: U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law

No, the article assumes the link.. he has not gone out and interviewed ever single person on why they gave up their citizenship. And dual citizenship issues are a very valid reason.

But haven't those countries always prohibited dual citizenship?
