Tenn. judge changes infant's name from 'Messiah'

Re: Tennessee Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

I see why you keep avoiding my question. If you're concerned about ridicule and teasing a name like "Dick" is going to get more ridicule and teasing and bullying than Messiah. So are you for banning the name "Dick" or "Peter"? If not, you don't give a **** about the teasing you just care "messiah" was used and you are against it for RELIGIOUS reasons like the judge.

I wasn't aware you name was PirateMk1? Because you took my answer to his post and then you question why I am not responding to your question in my response to the posting of someone else. I will assume it was an honest mistake on your part but as said, you will never find my respond to your question in the post I wrote as a response to someone else. Also, I already responded to your post about the name Dick.

Re: Tennessee Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

You try being called Messiah. Honored and tested or just antiquated and outdated? I am not so sure that bullying and things like that build character. You can build character by not allowing bullying, healthy competition and positive re-enforcement of acceptable behavior. You are free to believe what you want and I will do the same. I just think that more modern education methods do not need bullying, shark swimming and things like that.

Messiah was No. 4 among the fastest-rising baby names in 2012, according to the Social Security Administration's annual list of popular baby names.

Considering that it would seem the bullying thing is probably overblown

“The word Messiah is a title and it’s a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ,” Judge Ballew said....

This is pretty clearly a religion based argument and as such violates the Establishment Clause.

Her second argument about the bullying isn't much better, especially how popular Messiah seems to be as a name - at least according to the article..
Pretty clearly... how? The Establishment Clause says that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

Re: Tennessee Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

I think it is a wonderful judge. Children should have appropriate names and not names that would lead to a life or ridicule and harassment.

I had a prof in college who's name was Harold (aka Harry) Butts. Girl in my class in 4th grade was named Donna Screws. Coached a couple of sisters in youth soccer named Natalie and Lisa Pigg.

George Foreman named all 5 of his sons George ( jr, III, IV, V, and VI) and one daughter Georgetta and the other Freda George.

boys:

Burger, Espn, Jedi and there were even a couple of poor slobs who's idiot parents named them "Popeye"

This judge has a lot of renaming to do.

Did he change the kids name because he thought he was the only Messiah?

There was a kid on my oldest son's club soccer team who's name was "Christian".

No problem with Burger. Seems like a good derivative of Chuck or Porterhouse.

Which goes to my original point about Americans often naming their children after a sitting President they admire.

At the very least she is way overstepping her bounds. Insane, no. Arrogant yes. Stupid yes. Retarded probably.

with regards to her job, position, legal responsibility and awareness of her legal guidelines and authority i find her to be insane :)

Of the bat**** variety or the coo coo variety? Or has she found a new and more interesting variety of insane?

hmmmmmm
thats a tough call, id say both

also there 160+ posts here and still no logical or legal reason to support this judge's mental retardation

It's not like they named the kid "hitler" or "idi"

Messiah is a terrible choice for a given name anyway. ;)
Indeed it is. But its not up to anyone but the parents to name the child. The child can change it when they are old enough.

The judge is a perfect example of a tyrant in a robe and the parents have a wonderful lawsuit against her.

Besides, nobody messes with The Messiah

Why? Judges have freedom to rule about cases. If they want to change the name let them appeal.

And lawsuit against the judge, yeah, that is going to happen, not.

Judicial Immunity is a form of legal immunity which protects judges and others employed by the judiciary from lawsuits brought against them for judicial actions, no matter how incompetent, negligent, or malicious such conduct might be, even if this conduct is in violation of statutes.

Indeed it is their job to rule about the case. The case here was his last name not first. She went WAY beyond her boundaries and legal ability thinking she can just change a name because it offended her sensitivities.

There was the case with those racist folk not so long ago, right? They named their kid Adolph and other Nazi names. What happened in that case? I think maybe the government took their kids, but I can't quite recall right now. This case isn't so far from that one.

yep just basic common sense and facts

Pardon the brevity but I'm getting off a train right now.

The government may not use religious tenants in adjudicating people's rights. See United States v Ballard.

The state kidnapped their kids supposedly for neglect and abuse. The guy and his new girlfriend are having a new baby the state will probably kidnap.Only way to stop that is with a rifle.

And from what it looks like she cannot be sued for it.

Re: Tennessee Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

Kind of funny how everyone's assuming Messiah is going to get beat up and kicked around. Just because that's what happened last time . . .

Re: Tennessee Judge orders baby's name be changed from 'Messiah'

Some of you people are nuts.

The point about the name being stupid is valid.

Just think... If a man named Thomas Dick had a child and gave him a First name of Suck and a middle name of My.... some of you idiots would think that is a-okay as well.

So much for "libertarian", eh?

Should a parent be allowed to name their kid Adolph?

Not Adolph Hitler, as the Campbell family did, just Adolph. As is Adolph Christopher Smith.
