Laugh it up: Study finds late-night comics using Democrats as punchlines

Hey, here's a fun thing, instead of trying to tell me what you think I am saying, or doing, how's about you simply address the points in front of you. The trouble you are having is that you seem to not be reading what I am writing, but rather just as I have posed, you are assigning what you think is being said, and from what I am reading, getting upset because you think I am somehow slighting you, or "liberal's" in the process...This is exactly what I am talking about.

oh, so when you say liberals are too thin skinned and take it way to seriously you are not making a slight? Does this sort of BS actually work outside of republican circles? I can understand that all the victimized old rich white guys might agree with your falsehoods and blatantly conflicting statements, but the other people of the world might find your claims that you brought this up and said let us see how they like it to indicate you had an offensive tone and maybe you can explain how that is not an offensive statement.
I guarantee if we were in a social setting talking about this, you would have already started raising your voice, and, or starting to show hints of anger in the conversation.

No, I am not a conservative, and therefor i can argue without shouting down my opponents like Bill O. Of course, i might start mocking you and the laughter might become loud enough to drown you out, but like I said that would most likely depend on how often you wanted to offer up a poorly thought out amusing comment like most cons do when they are flustered.

This is convoluted, and backwards from what I am saying....Goodness. The article talked about a study showing that late night comedians were ramping up their jokes at the demo's expense in recent months, while during the election, it was the other way around. My pose, is that demo's will not take it any better than did republican's at the time when the roles were reversed...Clear now?

Ahhh, so that is what you are complaining about? I have to ask because things tend to change when speaking to losing conservatives. So let us get this straight. Despite no freakouts and a job that insures a steady stream of some of the worst abuse imaginable from the opposition, something any national politician is going to face, and years of experience in dealing with it you feel that dems are all of a sudden going to start freaking out because the jokes are getting a little more frequent? You are not even saying they have. It is like the equivelent of someone asking if you are going to cry after making a joke. Only in this case the person is not a child and is pretty used to being insulted.

Next time you backpedal try to pick a better explanation. I don't see any reason to feel that dems will become distraught over something they have faced every day, just like I do not see much reason for reps doing so. About the only thing I see is you thinking it would be really funny if they do, and that is not a reason, that is wishing. Why don't you make a post about it when someone does, and not pretend they are going to because you want to laugh now and realize waiting will probably mean you never get the opportunity because to be a politician of national standing means you have already walked through all the flames and insults without crying.

Why do liberals always view any disagreement with their prime directive as a voicing of victimhood? Is it because they are born with the victimhood gene and they assume all others are equally so damaged?

A) I'm not liberal
B) You literally turned a thread about comedians joking about Democrats into a liberal media slam.

It's not liberals or even me with the "victimhood gene"...

Perhaps all this is because Conservatives don't think anything is funny; while Liberals think everything is funny.

Maybe that's why there are so many Liberal comedians? Ya think? LOL :)

Liberals can do self-deprecation, which is rare in conservatives.

Well, let's see how demo's like it.....My guess, not so much.

I generally laugh at these jokes. Maybe conservatives just have no sense of humor.

edit: except Leno isn't very funny. ;)

eh, maybe so....then again, I also posted how the President's own thin skin is well known.

Show of hands...

How many of you "liberals," are offended when late night comedians poke fun at President Obama?

I mean, I have been reading how upset you guys get. I just haven't seen any of you get "upset," with my own eyes. I mostly see them laughing right along with everyone else.

So here's your chance liberals. Represent.

Tell us. Do you get upset or just laugh along with the crowd?

Damn that Letterman. Making amusing commentary about things that are going on. How dare he. Angry words.

Remember how much people whined about their poor Sarah Palin being made fun of by those darned liberal comedians? :lamo

eh, maybe so....then again, I also posted how the President's own thin skin is well known.

Well-known by Limbaugh et al or actually well-known?

Well known? someone hasn't watched the whitehouse press corp dinners.

Well known? someone hasn't watched the whitehouse press corp dinners.

Yeah, I saw them...Obama is a great actor in front of an audience....But even his own advisors worry about his ability to not read into his own press.

The article I posted was from HuffPo...Darn conservative outlets!

It was an opinion piece that presented little to no actual evidence that this is the case. Written by a conservative editorialist who used to work for Reagan and both presidents Bush. A HuffPo logo at the top of the page does not make this a liberal piece of writing.

One guy said Obama was thin-skinned, and you went and declared this was "well-known." You know why?

You hate the president. Literally everything he does, you perceive in a negative way as a result. Which further reinforces your negative opinion of the president. When it comes to the behavior and motivation of liberals, you are not an objective source of information. Your own brain poisons you against being objective. It's not your fault, really. We're all wired this way. It's just that some of us are aware of this limitation and realize that we shouldn't decide what other peoples' opinions are.

I would say more of giving the people who hate others a banner to rally around. It is great for drumming up support of minions, but terrible for avoiding making idiotic statements and becoming a stereotype open to ridicule. The dems do put more effort into an image of being reasonable and open. Because of that effort they probably have learned to keep silent on radical ideas and avoid saying outlandish things. Not that there are not loud mouthed dems, but that as a group they tend to not make the same amount of crazy as the reps who try to motivate a very hateful core. Hate is a great motivator, but it tends to make one stupid and closed minded.

Sometimes, yes, you'll find conservatives saying or doing dumb things more often than liberals on some given weeks. However, the fact remains that the worldview of the comedians dramatically shapes what they find to be the absurd or dumb. There are plenty of things liberals, libertarians, and left-wingers do that are ridiculously stupid. You are less likely to find them joking about it, because somehow the message, the goal, whatever, is right and just to the comedian in question. These are social critics and have very little obligation or drive to be "equal opportunity haters." Even if they claim to be equal opportunity haters, their world view shapes what they see as "equal opportunity." The comedian's act is most often a reflection of their own views, and as such, it is really disingenuous to suggest that the comedians targets are mostly or always in the wrong.

I quite agree. I also agreed they don't have to be equal opportunity haters, as you said. But they do have to be funny, or they won't last.

Worldview has some of it, but audience is probably a bit more important. There are different comedian types. lots of standups avoid political humor. Certain ones fill the niche because there is a call for it. You have your Bill Mahers and your lewis blacks. But lots of them stay away from charged humor which would be an easy bomb in certain areas, and alter their routines depending on audience. A late night host is expected to make commentary on recent news events, and political humor is going to get in there. I would say a talk show host is probably most defined by what makes it into the main stream news.

As for saying stupider things, there is a difference between disagreeing with a worldview and doing things like completely botching known biological fact like how a vagina works, embracing creationism and religious accounts as facts, making up new words so often it becomes a bushism, and doing things like insulting 47 percent of americans at your rich white guy fund raiser during a presidential election. There is a difference between denyong facts, and just making a statement that is a different point of view. For example abortion. If a person wants to argue a fetus is a life because it has possibilities or it's heart beats that is not a joke and becomes a debate. If a person wants to say a woman who is raped stops her uterus from working because she doesn't consent, that is comical and a joke. Also, if a person is over the age of 5 and believes the flintstones is a documentary because of another radically fictional book that is another joke, where a person who simply believes in god and regards the bible as parable or allegory is just being philisophical.

Really, audience is the big thing.

While I appreciate all of my liberal friends taking the time to respond with the usual Alinsky style, and predictable responses in some cases, the tone, and vitriolic mockery shows me that in my short and tongue in cheek OP, I have struck a nerve...

Obama has an amazingly, yet well known 'thin skin' when it comes to criticism. So much so that HuffPo even wrote about it....

So yeah, when certain liberal Obama supporters in here try the failed tactic of making this about how conservatives have some persecution complex, or play victim cards, is really only cover for what they know is their own short coming.

In fact, as personal, and anecdotal experience I can tell you of the liberals I know in real life, it is usually best to steer clear of talking politics at parties and such, not because they don't articulate their opinions, but rather because they usually get too upset to have a civil discussion in real life....

So, my conclusion thus far is that the liberal progressives in here displaying snark, and backhanded insult, are only projecting, and thus really don't want to discuss anything, but rather just call names, and stomp off like children...I for one hope that they realize this, and get with the program a little.

When I read the article, and don't even recognize the man they describe, there's something wrong with this picture.

I see your problem. You need to wear your republican glasses. When you wear them you will see things the way republicans do. Horns will appear on democrats heads and republicans are backlit by a soft divine light while their hal;os sparkle in their aura. If you have lost them it may take a few weeks to get a new pair, but fear not you can save yourself by creating your own homemade republican glasses. They are not quite as good as the real thing but all you need is some old people cataract glasses, and some black spray paint and you are well on your way to eliminating reality from your view.

Oh, there's that trait unable to look at the article and listen to someone with the credentials politically in this case to know about people in office, and take their opinion for discussion....Why? Because you know he's right. I mean come off it man, we've all seen it....From banning FNC reporters off the campaign jet with some stupid excuse because he didn't like the reporting, to instructing his staff not to appear on ANY FNC show during the early days. Obama is a bitter little bitch punk that can't take it when it comes to direct criticism....And the article had it right when it said this;

"Obama is among the most thin-skinned presidents we have had, and we see evidence of it in every possible venue imaginable, from one-on-one interviews to press conferences, from extemporaneous remarks to set speeches.
The president is constantly complaining about what others are saying about him. He is upset at Fox News, and conservative talk radio, and Republicans, and people carrying unflattering posters of him. He gets upset when his avalanche of faulty facts are challenged, like on health care. He gets upset when he is called on his hypocrisy, on everything from breaking his promise not to hire lobbyists in the White House to broadcasting health care meetings on C-SPAN to not curtailing earmarks to failing in his promises of transparency and bipartisanship.
In Obama's eyes, he is always the aggrieved, always the violated, always the victim of some injustice. He is America's virtuous and valorous hero, a man of unusually pure motives and uncommon wisdom, under assault by the forces of darkness.
It is all so darn unfair."

Awwww....poor wittle baby....da mean ol Fox reporters won't give Obama a break....Awwwww....:(

Give me a break....What a pathetic loser. And we all are the losers because we as a country keep voting for dumb ****s like this.

this was actually where Obama finally started showing signs of wisdom
why facilitate the propaganda machine that is doing everything it could to derail his administration
saying **** you to faux news was the smart thing to do
and now we see the crying from the reich wing, only because Obama was unwilling to invite faux into the hen house

laugh it up, indeed

Let's talk "gravitas" and how the President doesn't seem to appreciate this. What the heck is he doing talking on Leno when he won't talk honestly to we, the people?

Obama: 'We Don

Yeah, I saw them...Obama is a great actor in front of an audience....But even his own advisors worry about his ability to not read into his own press.

didn't know you were deep into Obama's inner circle... reading the tea leaves with his advisors and such.

See, you're going to scoff when I say this, however, it is incredibly easy to see how your political perspective skews the discussion. One could just as easily point out the foolishness of liberal fads such as the green movement or revolutionary fervor on the Left.

"Faux news" "Reich wing" indeed....baaaaaaaa! Good greif, just go get a pre printed sign, and a hoodie so you can conform with the rest of the brain dead losers camping in a park, and deficating on police cars....God I thought you were smarter.
