I didn't say it was more important or WAY more important, I just said it was more attractive as a reason for a boycott. Like it or not, fighting against descrimination of gays gets more media and public sympathy than trying to round up someone who's blown the whistle on government spying on their own innocent citizens and the citizens of other sovereign nations throughout the world. Every nation has gay citizens and many support them. I can't name many nations who support the US spying on them and their citizens, can you?

Judging by the results of the Universiade in Kazan, athletes U.S. are afraid they will lose all competitions. Therefore looking for an excuse, - do not go on olympiad in Sochi. Athletes United States, are gays, in addition to that and are cowards.

*laughs* United States is at war, of course, only with equals. In Russia there was a civil war many years. Hence a dead economy. Or the United States fall apart?

Actually, they shouldn't be engaged in PDA regardless of whether they are homosexual or heterosexual. Maybe it's just my old fashioned military background but PDA is not professional and it's not wrong to request or even demand that participants refrain from it. If you gotta suck face, get a room.

Olympic athletes are not professionals nor are they in the military. They are simply athletes. Expecting them to be anything else is silly.

The Olympic Village and the host cities have long been the scene of extraordinary sexual activity. You are bringing together the most physically fit, virile, young people on the planet and putting them in close quarters with each other for weeks at a time while upping their adrenaline and endorphin rush through competition. The moralist brigade can take a back seat to human nature and an Olympic tradition that goes back decades. If Russia is going to be this intolerant it can enjoy the public relations fiasco that will accompany it and set the standard for countries that will not be graced by the IOC for a long time to come.

Case and point: The local Olympic committees and often the IOC have for years and years provided thousands of condoms free of charge to athletes when they arrive at the games.

Yeah. That's not really necessary, is it? When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in Russia, knock off the public displays of affection in respect for their culture and their laws. The athletes are only there for a few weeks. It's not too great a hardship to endure to eschew public displays of affection for a few weeks. If an athlete thinks it's too much for them to take, then they shouldn't go. Boycotting the Olympics over this is idiotic. It won't happen. Homosexual activists will be disappointed. They'll get over it.

As it should be, there aren't all that many eye-witnesses. Whatever carousing they're doing should be done behind closed doors. You know... the adults... consensual... in private... that thing. Concentrate on the "private" part. How promiscuous they are is their business, but it needn't be a public spectacle.
