Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'[W:65,239]

Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'[W:65]

Not sure why this is making headlines as this doesn't go against the church doctrine of "Hate the Sin, not the sinner".

Ding, ding, ding!

Agreed. Somehow, I'm not sure why any hate would be acceptable.

Well I see your point and I'm not sure the bible actually has it quoted that way. The concept though is what is important. The person is always to be loved and God (according to the bible) will judge.

I don't follow the bible though as it isn't my religion.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

That is your opinion

Nothing more

That is your opinion, nothing more.

See how that works?

Many mistake the change in tone as a move toward acceptance. I don't make that mistake myself, but welcome little changes, even if it is just in tone.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

Christians hate the sin. Love the sinner.

And damn it, but don't some of the loudest Christians show that love by making the persecution of gay people the very centerpiece of their faith?

The Bible is quite clear. Homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination. It's not my opinion. It's God's Law.

As a believer, I follow God's laws. There are rules. The other guy (Satan) only has one rule.
Do whatever you want.

As long as what other people do is between consenting adults in privacy and you are not forced to be involved, why do you care what they do, or even think about it?

It appears to me that you may have a problem.

I agree there with you. I just don't see how someone can make the mistake of hearing "acceptance" of the act of homosexuality within the Catholic Church from what is actually being said.

It's not like they are going to start having gay weddings, so the message is still clear that the act is unacceptable to the Catholic Church. I don't agree with that stance, but it's not my religion to change.

Francis continues to distance himself from Benedict. Thoughts?

I do not have any skin in that issue and am not a canonical lawyer. As I understand it, though, there is not very much leeway here. Homosexuality itself is no real problem for the RC. Practicing it is sin. Not really horrid sin. But recurring sin is not good in church view.
It is not as bad as abortion.

My view? If you believe in Hell it is a bad idea.

I brought up the whole hate thing and it's being unchristian-like much earlier in this thread. Not surprised it was glossed over.

I'm not surprised either. People can find ways to justify their hate, usually.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

You should probably study up a little more.....

Yeah, I didn't think you'd want to challenge me on my post either. Whenever you want to try and test any of the things I said, please do. I've got enough books on Middle Eastern cultures to back it up.

Um, you might want to go look. I did not debate the existence of god, I merely pointed out your words where only your opinion, just as you had for others. You do not get to claim your opinions as fact while saying other people's are just opinion, nothing more.

The Bible is quite clear

Homosexual sex = A sin and an abomination

That's not my opinion. That's a fact.

That is your opinion, nothing more.

See how that works?

Whether you want to believe in God or not is your business. The Bible is QUITE clear however. Engaging in homosexual sex acts is a sin and an abomination.

And regarding all religion, gods, devils, angels, heaven, hell, and any and all after-life - that's all anybody has. Including you, the Pope, and anyone else.

It's all opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less.

If you want to debate the existence of God, feel free to create another thread.

So you are without sin, and throwing stones, eh?

Show me where I'm throwing stones

Go ahead. Quote me.

I'm not screaming that gays are going to all go to hell. Being gay is not a sin. Having gay sex IS a sin.

I didn't make those rules. Whether you believe in those rules, agree/disagree or choose to follow them in your business. It's between the sinner and God, which is what the Pope's point is. Predictably this thread has turned into an emotional whinefest, where The Left is bashing Religion and putting the homosexual lifestyle on a pedestal.

Not sure that's true either.

Lets see.

As pointed out by MANY, the bible says all kinds of crap. Most people who like to quote parts of the bible as "fact" also like to ignore many other parts of the bible, and/or say those parts don't apply anymore, or those parts are just to be used as a guide but not as a rule.

Also - how many freakin times has the bible been translated and interpreted into how many different editions?

Are you really certain that well over 2000 years ago, homosexuality was such a big issue that the people who wrote all those words were specifically
writing about homosexuality as we understand the word today?

Here's an idea, why don't you just worry about yourself and your beliefs and let whatever happens to others in the after-life be their issue?

Why do you care what others do in the privacy of their homes and lives?

I'd think pre-marital sex, divorce, babies born out of wedlock, sex out of wedlock, and a whole host of other human behaviors would be much farther up on your list of moral outrages when compared to gay sex.

Maybe, just maybe, if you prefaced your posts with "I believe...." and then ended them with, "... but that's just me, y'all feel free to do as you believe and I won't judge you for it." people wouldn't be so quick to call you out for what you appear to be.

Not sure that's true either.

This is not even debatable

The Bible doesn't mince words. Doesn't dance around the issue.

Homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination. If it was natural, men would be able to conceive and have babies popping out their anuses.

Lets see.

If you want to trash The Bible and don't believe in God, that's your business.

That's NOT what this thread is about however. If you want to trash The Bible and debate the existence of God, go ahead and create another thread. The fact that engaging in homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination in God's eyes is not open for debate.

Actually, that's also a mistake on your part. Much of what you think is clear is really a misreading. I've link those in the polls forum in the thread on the subject. That's the trouble with BLIND faith. Important questions don't get asked.

Every time you post you dig yourself deeper and deeper.

There and many natural cases of "homosexuality" outside of the human realm.

Plenty of sex acts don't result in babies. Anal sex between a man and a woman never results in a baby.

Come on man.

Just admit you hate all things homosexual.

Stop trying to use the bible as your justification.

Just admit you hate it. It's got nothing to do with god. Nothing to do with the bible.

Everything to do with you. Why is that so hard for you?

You keep acting like this is about me. Try that tactic with someone else who will take the bait. Judgement is between the sodomite and God. I also find it amusing that the people whining about "judging others" have done nothing in this thread except engage in emotional reasoning to judge me.

There is no such thing as a "homosexual instinct" in animals. Animals engage in that type of behavior for a variety of different reasons, primarily for dominance. Not because of emotions or the will to procreate. A child cannot be conceived from gay sex. That's just science and nature pal. You DO believe in science don't you?

The Bible is quite clear. Engaging in homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination.

This thread is about The Pope and specifically the church's view on homosexuality. If you want to attack people for following God's Laws then go create that thread and have at it.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

How do you know what every Christian and Catholics think or what the faith teaches?

Oh wait. You don't.

Could you possibly be more wrong? Highly unlikely. I was raised staunch Catholic. A sister who was a Dominican. I'm still recovering. I know plenty.

Christians hate the sin. Love the sinner.

Hook, line and sinker.

Your post is nonsensical gibberish

If you were raised catholic than you would know what The Bible says about homosexuality. You don't even know what you are trying to argue anymore. Embarrassing.

What does The Bible say about homosexual sex. If you were catholic you should know this.

You hang your hat on a book of fairy tales no less. The difference is I am not buying that nonsense. You are.
