Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

These are nihilists:

And nothing else in this thread is relevant.

I'm serious about that too. This has been a 13-page-long circle jerk.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

How is that Arrogant? Because I told you I talk to God?

actually, some people would think you arrogant claiming that God talks to you and that you know what God wants and thinks, yet s/he/it doesn't talk to the vast majority of the people in the world ... I'm not interested in whether you are arrogant or not, but people who say they talk to God scare me ... anytime anyone is convinced s/he is doing God's work, including killing infidels, what's to stop them? if we can keep religion out of our politics and public policy, that would help ...

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

As a Catholic, I knew this guy was going to be a wishy washy loser.

Obviously you have no knowledge of his accomplishments.

You also do not understand Catholicism.

Yea, please enlighten me. Homosexuality is a sin. Now you go.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

Homosexuality is not a sin. Any sex outside of marriage is. Now you go.

And what is the Church's position?

Yes, you are correct!!

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

The Bible is a work of fiction written by very fallible men.

That is your opinion

Nothing more

Doesn't change the fact that homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination

Hate the sin. Not the sinner.

The Bible is quite clear. Homosexual sex is a sin and an abomination. It's not my opinion. It's God's Law.

As a believer, I follow God's laws. There are rules. The other guy (Satan) only has one rule. Do whatever you want.

You're claiming you have two-way conversations with God?

Have you told anyone about this? Like, a medical professional?

New Testament is also quite clear about it's support for slavery, blaming all Jews for Jesus' death, genocidal acts and the idea that God views females as intrinsically less worthy than males.

Doesn't mean that anyone in his/her right mind actually believes that Biblical crap.

Re: Pope Francis on gays: `Who am I to judge?'

Did I say I don't care about what Jesus said? No, that is your spin of what I said, not reality. What I said was, His words are not the only words in the Bible. His job was not to list each specific sin, He didn't mention rape afterall, did He mention incest? No, but I think you would agree those are wrong too....

Rape and incest were pretty acceptable in Jesus' day. I don't mean acceptable in the sense that people just went "We're alright with it" but more like "Yeah, it happens. We get over it though." Surely, Jesus wasn't in favor of any of it, but the chances are he wouldn't have been all that angry about it either.

It was pretty much standard for old testament guys to marry a cousin or somebody of relation. It's a standard part of some Middle Eastern cultures to preserve kinship ties through marriage. So we find that Middle East Jews have pretty high incidence of first cousin marriages.

Now, as far as rape goes, there are more than once instance in which we see that the punishment for rape is just a little bit more serious than the punishment for stealing a goat. You pay a fine, you keep the woman. Women aren't exactly seen as anything but diplomatic property by social standards at that time.

So in a way, you're right - Jesus doesn't condone it. However, the evidence would suggests he didn't really give a **** about it either.

This is, once again, your opinion

And regarding all religion, gods, devils, angels, heaven, hell, and any and all after-life - that's all anybody has. Including you, the Pope, and anyone else.

It's all opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Francis continues to distance himself from Benedict. Thoughts?

 this is in no way an alteration of Church doctrine, or a distancing from Benedict. Remember a few months back when everyone was shocked to discover that Francis said homosexual acts were sinful?

Now he reiterates that the temptation is not the sin, its' the act that's the sin, and that only God can judge the heart. Amazingly, it turns out, the Pope really is Catholic. :D

You should probably study up a little more.....

It is very well my damn business. Why? Because you and a large number of Americans are using that goddamn book to interfere with my family. I don't take kindly to people who attack my family.

Especially when those people choose to ONLY emphasize the homophobic nature of God while ignoring 100% of every other racist, misogynistic, genocidal, homicidal, malevolent, bigoted, vindictive and egomaniacal thing this jerkoff has ever done and said in the Bible. I know you already choose to ignore half of it. Why choose to use your actions to only make LGBT people miserable?

Um, you might want to go look. I did not debate the existence of god, I merely pointed out your words where only your opinion, just as you had for others. You do not get to claim your opinions as fact while saying other people's are just opinion, nothing more.

Not sure why this is making headlines as this doesn't go against the church doctrine of "Hate the Sin, not the sinner".

Agreed. Somehow, I'm not sure why any hate would be acceptable.

So you are without sin, and throwing stones, eh?

Precisely.

There's only a few billion Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists, along with the atheists that will all claim to "KNOW" the "TRUTH".

Not to mention the various "christian" off-shoots whose beliefs probably differ from his as well.

Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, ..........

I'm guessing there's roughly 7 billion-ish people who believe they "know" the "truth".

What are the odds that Bronson, or davidtaylorjr, or anyone else here is "right"?

More accurately, what are the odds that they're wrong?
