Driving somewhere? There's a gov't record of that

Sorry, but the government must warrant it's actions, not the other way around. I don't need to make an argument on they can't do something, they must tell me why they can. Saying that I can't expect privacy in a given situation is not good enough. They should not be able to log my daily affairs and keep them on record nor should they be able to watch me on the street with devices for police purposes. If they want to watch me they can get out there and put cops on the streets. I imagine a cop on every corner and not a camera though will make people like yourself start thinking to.

That is only 50% correct. You have to have legal standing to file suit in the first place. If you cant make a good argument that your rights were violated then you'll never see a courtroom.

What about side walks or other areas they watch right this very minute? Are you fine with that? Do you like your big brother? Does he keep you safe enough yet? Why don't you get him to watch you and not me, ok?

Yes, I am. I'm not going to do anything out on a sidewalk that I wouldn't do in a crowded public area. If I want to do something I don't want anyone else to be witness to, I do it in the privacy of my home. Why can't you? What exactly is the big deal?

And the justification for this was already given and it is more than reasonable to stand up in court that pics of cars in public areas can stop crimes, help prevent crimes, and even solve crimes. It doesn't target any specific person at all. And it is no more invasive than a police officer being out on the street watching you or some random person filming you.

Why must the government be watching just in case I do something? Is it any of their business 99.9% of the time what I'm doing on the side walk? Why do they care so much that they have to log everything I do on the side walk??

I don't care what bull**** safety big brother bull**** they give. If I wanted a big brother I would move to England and give up my free speech rights.

And guess what? A lot of things can stop crimes. Big ****ing whoopy doo.

If you don't care about giving the government information than you really don't understand that information is the most powerful resource known to man. If I wanted the government to know everything there was to know about me I would walk over to them and tell them all there is to know.

It's not "just in case YOU do something". It is for those people who are doing something and can be tracked down more easily when their car is spotted on a public fareway. Do you feel that you are being watched or targeted specifically for some reason?

I feel as if I'm being spied on for safety reasons come up by people that should of never been born or at the very least detached from their mothers nipple. That is how I'm feeling right now. Grow the hell up and deal with risks.

I work for the government. I live in government funded housing. I have government funded insurance plans. I have a secret security clearance and could easily get a TS one if I needed it. And since a good portion of my family also was in the military at one time or another, I'm pretty sure the records of my family the government has are quite extensive. Heck, my screenname alone probably gets me checked out by any number of three-letter government agencies every year or so (and they all probably feel extremely stupid for doing so when they get done).

Being a grown up means realizing that everything is not against you. It means realizing that everyone isn't out to get you.

It's the New World Order.

1984.

If you want to be police state it's best to use whatever surveillance tools you got at your disposal to maximum your efficiency.

An organization that has killed more people than anyone else 10 fold isn't exactly high on my list of people that I want watching me and knowing everything I'm doing whenever I leave my house. Call me paranoid, but history proves me right.

When we have the government denouncing peoples citizenships so they can kill them my behavior isn't exactly unwarranted.

Then live in paranoid seclusion if you wish, but unless you plan to stay out of public completely, you will have people from the government watching you and recording information about you, just like everyone else.

Just think you can't even go in your backyard without a little camera from space on your ass. How nice. Enjoy your police state if you want, I won't.

Actually that would make me feel safer, if I was walking on the street and happened to be robbed or something maybe they could use the recording to track the criminal? I honestly don't understand how you can feel violated by a recording of you walking or driving through a public place. Like I said the fact they keep all of our phone records stored makes me feel violated because I expect that to be private, this is in public.

We've always known that the technology would be irresistible. What has been invented can not be uninvented. We can only pray for benign application. Even if nobody embraced this, it would be imposed. Since it has moral support, it will be done.

We'll have to call upon our inner weasel to guide us.

They don't need to use one from space. They have one in so many places in public, remember?

I expect the government to NEVER watch me or anyone else.

It's a bit hard to cram one in my neighborhood I would imagine and get it to look into my backyard. Hey, I might be having sex back there. OH NOOOOOO!!!

Really, what if? Isn't that what your argument is all about? What if? What if I kill a bro back there? It could happen. We just have to assist the police in getting me, right?

I expect the government to NEVER watch me or anyone else.

Is this because you actually feel threatened, or you have a strict ideological belief that any government surveillance is wrong no matter how practical.

How is it practical to give the government massive amounts of information about its citizens? That seems a bit stupid, imho.

It is private if it is done in your private yard. If you are planning on killing him in public though, that is a different story. If you are a criminal and plan on doing something in public (such as robbing someone or kidnapping someone) and are seen or leave your car perhaps close to the scene of the crime (but still in public), then you will get caught because of this. It is basically based on chance and expectation of privacy in where you are while doing something.

I guess we never will agree... I just don't have a problem with the gov't storing information that I didn't intend to be private, especially if it could be used for a good purpose (crime).

I don't know, how can I expect privacy in my back yard? Seems pretty public to me. Let's go out and check...

Yup, I'm in the middle of my yard and all sorts of people can see me. Seems pretty public.

So where is my camera? Don't I deserve more love than cameras from space?

I don't understand what the issue is here. I'm totally aware of the ramifications of cell phones, etc being surveilled and am totally against any gov't entity doing it. However, if you do something in public you have already surrendered any sort of privacy you can expect to have as a citizen. You committed whatever action we are speaking of in public after all. Whether it's the gossip next door or a traffic camera, you have been seen doing it. If one does not want to be observed driving, don't drive. Get a bike. They don't require a license plate.....yet.

Hey, give the government information about you. It's probably a brilliant idea that has no chance of turning out to be really stupid.
