Liz Cheney to seek Wyo. Senate seat held by Repub.....

I'm getting jealous ... every time you write to me you bring up Mangas ... forget that injun, when you have an Antonio Banderas look alike in me ...

Ah, as usual, you are correct! If Mangas cared, he's be here...right? He's too busy making his fortune and fame to worry about us, I guess. And he's probably happily irritating folks on some other site, the ingrate! To quote AP, "hrumph!" Sorry, AP, but I just love that word! :lamo:

Sorry, just because you don't understand English and believe a Canadian can't have an opinion on US politics doesn't mean I need to explain myself for your benefit.

Why not explain your own views? You claim Enzi is fairly well known and active as a Senator? On what basis? Virtually no one on this thread knows anything about the man or what he's accomplished in 18 years in the Senate. Maybe he's a great guy and people like him, but the fact he's accomplished nothing of note in 18 years indeed means that he won't be missed. He can enjoy his Senate pension and pal around the corner store and county fairs in his retirement and let someone else take a crack at serving the State.

My original post said I'd never heard of him nor of any matter of a national importance that he championed or got bipartisan consensus upon and I indicated that someone who's been in the Senate 18 years and has no national profile is just someone taking up space and won't be missed. All perfectly reasonable opinions to have unless you're a liberal who hero worships anyone who can suck on the government teat for decades without getting noticed.

Just because the man is a conservative and generally holds conservative views on legislation doesn't mean that I'm wedded to him or anyone like him forever and ever. There's a ton of long term deadwood in the US Senate and I'd be all for seeing new people with new ideas and a desire to serve the country take a run at people like Enzi.

Heya CJ.....ya have to remember. There is that One word that causes the hamster to run the wheel.

Good afternoon, NIMBY! :2wave:

Sounds like you're quite the traveling man! Good for you! Have fun! Life is too short not to! Are you still in New England? It sounded like you enjoyed yourself there.

Been back for about a month. Heat index oppressive here in north central Illinois, a shade over 100. I like the dry, western heat better. Without T. Roosevelt, I may not have my National Parks and Forests. Without the WPA and CCC, the first real roads into them may not have been built. Without our incredible Interstate system, I would not be able to get to them. I am the lucky man who has traveled this Nation by car and some train.

true that ...

This is Linc, LSTU from the old days. This year in college wrestling will be the greatest class ever for "redshirt freshmen". Penn State should win it's 4th straight, but Okie St. could surprise in Oklahoma City. I meant this for radioman, sorry.

Liz should stick with what she does best

Linc....my long lost sports compadre.
Long time no see.
I'm not paying much attention to wrestling...yet.
How about Kyle Dake?
Four championships moving up in weight each year.

Senator Enzi is clearly one of the more conservative members of the U.S. Senate based on his voting record. My early guess is that the biggest policy differences between Enzi and his challenger may lie in the foreign policy realm. Very likely, if her foreign policy positions are similar to her father's, she favors a more activist foreign policy under the banner of advancing freedom and democracy e.g., would be a leading hawk for military intervention in Syria, would place greater emphasis on the use of force relative to diplomacy, etc. She might also favor greater Defense spending than Enzi, as Enzi voted to reduce funding for the F-22.

Almost certainly, she has plunged into the race, because she does not want to wait any longer to pursue her political ambitions. Perhaps secondary is her concern that the nation is moving away from the kind of activist foreign policy she champions. Senator Enzi's hasty, informal announcement of his intent to seek re-election was not a barrier and it is unclear what understanding actually existed between the two of them regarding the race.

It will be interesting to see how this race plays out. No matter who wins next year's primary--and a Cheney victory is not a given--the Wyoming Senate seat is a safe Republican seat.

Not sure, but I think Liz Cheney probably would've had to wait another seven years before a seat opened up, if she wanted to run in Wyoming that is. Wyoming only has one congressman and two Senators representing it in DC. With only one congressman that should tell you how unpopulated the state is. Consequently, almost everyone in WY who votes has some connection or met one of the Cheneys and/or Enzi family.

Anyway, the story I heard was that Enzi's and the Cheney's are long time family friends. Liz Cheney is an attorney and worked for years at the state department in DC and had lived most of her life on the east coast. But after Liz and her husband bought a house in WY last year, Sen. Enzi asked her if she was going to run for office and she said, "no." So then he made his announcement to run again. Shortley after, Liz Cheney makes her announcement to run for his seat. When asked what he thought about that, Enzi said, "I thought we were friends."

Enzi is very popular in WY and a well respected conservative...but apparently he's is not a good fund raiser probably because he never really had to be. Cheney on the other hand has access to a lot of out of state money so she could easily outspend Enzi.

This campaign could create a huge rift in WY GOP politics...land of cattle and oil men.

Dake was/is the real deal. Too bad for D. Taylor. I thought Ramos got robbed at 133. A lot of these guys are trying MMA.

I'll be in Vegas for the first week of the NFL. I like Baltimore + 9 at Denver on the opening Thursday.

Ah thanks Nimby

.....2016. I misunderstood. I thought ya was talking for 2014. :)

Taking +6 senators out of 20 from the Dems and holding their 13 in 2014 is a tall order. Dems need to hold their first ever mid-term convention next summer so as to not repeat their miserable turn-out in 2010. You may have different thoughts.

Well, they gotta make a living.
Aside from coaching, no other way to make a buck.

The Niners are currently favored by 5.5 at home against GB on 09/08 in their first game. Over/under at 50.5

Ok, Linc.
I'll give the points and take the under 50.5.
Barring injuries, healthy 49ers defense throttles GB.
I'm not betting until the week before the game.
I can't believe the oddsmakers are already at work.
Don't those guys ever sleep?

Vegas never sleeps. Cantor gaming has odds for all NFL games. NFL is about 70% of the handle. I'll be waiting forever for legalized sports gambling in all states. The mob keeps that from happening. Imagine the tax revenues and employment, with Nevada getting their cut.
