Texas Senate confiscates tampons while debating anti-abortion bill [W:155]

They were confiscating everything that could be used to throw down on the gallery. And the focus and outrage is over taken tampons?

No. Tampons tho.. Sorry mam we gotta take your tampon away from you :lamo Pathetic.

The rags could be used as throws--to borrow a Mardi Gras term--to interrupt the legislature. Of course they're going to be confiscated.

How would you feel if a black legislator was speaking and people started throwing hangman's nooses? I bet you would be singing a different tune, then.

It's all the same thing.

How about instead of focusing on tampons we discuss the DISGUSTING legislature about to be passed with minimal input from dissenting views?

These evangelical control freaks think they are actually going to control women's bodies in the 21st century. THINK AGAIN.

Women everywhere in Texas are pissed off. They should be throwing more than just tampons.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

No sir. A loaded gun in the hands of law abiding person who has no intention of misusing it, is no threat to anyone.

Contrariwise, if there is known intel that protesters plan to throw certain types of items, preventing them from bringing those items in prevents them from misusing said items.

Totally different.

So if somebody says "let's all throw our bras", are you going to force everyone to give up their bras? What about underwear? What about shoes? If somebody says, "let's all spit!", are you going to have everyone muzzled? I bet if someone said "let's all throw condoms, your boys wouldn't have forced men to give up condoms if they were carrying them.

Dude, no matter how much you want to excuse the actions of the ones who were SO afraid - of friggin' TAMPONS - their actions are inexcusable. Period.

It's time for a few words from Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys:

Bud, you want to take a partisan position that this was laughably stupid, and that's what you're doing, including resorting to hyperbole. If they hadn't done this and had gotten pelted with tampons, you'd be laughing about THAT, because that is what hyperpartisans do. I have no dog in this fight; I am not a Texan and barely any more fond of the GOP than I am the Dems. I'm just pointing out that it isn't quite as crazy and you're making it out to be, so pardon me for trying to interject a little sense.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

I'll take a loaded gun over a tampon anytime. If I need a tampon later, well, I have a loaded gun. Who will refuse me?

Let me see here - it would make sense to stop them from throwing tampons...but bringing loaded guns into the capitol building is okay? Does anyone see the disconnect here?

Yeah, you cannot have tampons which have a use for women, but you can have a gun which according to you has absolutely no use for law abiding citizens in the legislature. That really is a bit absurd. You are right, there is a big difference in between a product women might need to make use of, and something that is about as useful as a rock. But in texas you cannot get involved in someone's gun, but every politician can stick his nose into a woman's vagina which they seem to have no business in since they cannot figure out what tampons are for.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

Protestors were throwing all kinds of stuff, security was required to keep order. The horror!

have you seen a tampon before? There is about zero opportunity to be harmed buy one if thrown. maybe you are exceptionally frail or not aware of what a tampon actually is, but i am pretty sure women have things to throw that might actually cause concern. Besides, how far could one actually throw a tampon? Those things do not have weight to them. that is pretty damned wussy to be afraid of the tampons.

As has been observed, our elected reps have the right not to be assaulted while doing their jobs. You don't seem to understand the law, the rules of conduct in a legislature, or civility. You also don't seem to be aware that the state troopers also jars of paint, urine, and feces which were going to be thrown at the senators. It's called "assault," and no, you don't get to throw things.

Oh, and the bill passed.

A person gets pelted with tampons it is funny and there is really no chance of injury. I am pretty sure i could do more damage spitting at you than chucking a tampon. Seriously, I could probably chuck a whole full box of tampons at you and you would not be harmed. It is very silly to take away bits of string and cotton type of material, but a loaded firearm is OK. they can feel glad women are not like pro-life people and willing to just murder people who oppose them. If it were a bunch of pro-life religious people i would recommend worrying about the guns.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

Tampons and other women hygiene thingings have caused more damage to America's plumbing systems than guns.
Just ask Joe the Plumber.

If they are actually worried about assault they should be worried about guns. No one has ever been killed or been pistol whipped by a tampon before.

that is a legitimate concern considering the large amounts of BS the texas legislature puts out on a regular basis. You wouldn't want that stuff piling up, someone might make another texas state constitution.

Neither is a tampon in a purse.

Re: Guns Yes, Tampons NO! Welcome to Texas, Y'all!

Guns don't kill people; tampons kill people.

I kid, i kid. Please don't kill me.

Did you really say tampons and hangman's nooses are the same thing?

Women throwing tampons at white, male legislators (which is just conjecture) is the same as someone else throwing nooses at a black speaker? That makes no sense.

Maybe no one should be throwing anything at any legislator or speaker? :)

I had my spit wad arsenal taken away from me when I was in school, not because spit wads are dangerous (although it's all fun and game until someone loses an eye :prof), but because they were a disruption to class.

I could not care less what side of the argument you are on, the idea of confiscating tampons is rather amusing. Then when you compare that to the fact they were okay with people carrying deadly weapons, it's just absolutely hilarious.

That I can understand and agree with. It's his analogy I'm not getting. :D
