Guess who? No, none of the Founding Fathers. Not Orwell.

    "Fascism is capitalism in decay."
    - Vladimir Lenin
Is our state not slowly decaying before our eyes?

“If tyranny and oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”
    - James Madison

    Well damn, that sounds familiar

“When one with honeyed words but evil mind
Persuades the mob, great woes befall the state.”
    - Euripides, Orestes

    Older than dirt, still true.

“The means of defence against foreign danger have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.”
    - James Madison

On the subject of tyranny, the world is well-experienced in its rise to power, its fall, and its intricacies. We would do well to learn from history, lest we be doomed to repeat it.
I always thought this sounded rather apropo:

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”

I'd attribute it but no one seems to be sure of the person who first stated it. I just found out doing this post that Sinclair Lewis gets misattributed this quote.

actually for the Obama haters, and there are quite a few I'm afraid on these threads, there are no limits ... my one consolation is that I know it drives them up a wall that he's President ... some of these folks have not had a good night's sleep since November 2008 ... that makes me happy ... haters shouldn't sleep well ...

“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.”
may or may not be from Gerald R. Ford, and has been misattributed to Thomas Jefferson.

By the way, that first quote was by none other than Hermann Goering. That Hermann Goering.

I really hate to say this, but you can't blindly throw out the Nazi card as a futile last resort when our government is now following some of their policies.

The Bush family is no friend of liberty. Romney was the wrong guy because of Romneycare. But he would have been better than the Marxist. I have admired N. Gingrich in the past. I admire him a little less these days.
well, comparing reading lists is a new one (and I'm relieved you didn't want to compare something else) ...

Beck, Palin, et al. for liberty? Really? Do you know if Madison owned slaves? I know the other two did, but not sure about Madison ... but you read a lot, so you probably know ...

Obama a Marxist? Really? Do you realize that you can actually say some intelligent things and then write crap like that, and suddenly what preceded it doesn't matter ... you come across as a complete hate-filled idiot when you write crap like that, and I know you can do better ...

BTW, Bush, Romney, and Gingrich could care less whether you like them or not ... you know that, right?

Hardly, I supported back in Obama in 2008. Believe it or not, I was relatively liberal then. I became disillusioned with his policies (or lack thereof) towards the end of his first term, and when he got into his second term I realized what was really going on.

If we had a Republican in the White House, then the Republicans would be touting any improvement in the economy, ranting about how the mainstream media is ignoring all of the wonderful things that their guy is doing and so on. As it is, since there is a Democrat in the White House, then there can't possibly be any good news.

News flash: the president doesn't control federal spending anyway. Congress controls federal spending.
Technically Obama has to approve whatever spending Congress passes. So they both control spending. Congress controls the details.
