News Laws Kick in Around Nation on July 1.....

Early July is about more than fireworks, cookouts and long weekends. It's also about hundreds of new state laws.

Around the nation, July 1 marks the start of new fiscal years and the date recently passed legislation goes into effect, although states often mark their independence by enacting new regulations on their own calendars.

The laws and effective dates vary somewhat from state to state, but an overview of legislation set to hit the books Monday shows that state lawmakers took positions on the following five topics of national debate:

    — GUNS
    — TECH
    — CARS
    — ABORTION
    —DRONES

Not all of the measures set to take effect were matters dominating national political discussion. The following five examples of recently approved legislation show state-level updates can cover a variety of topics:

    — SEXIST LANGUAGE: Washington lawmakers are completing work to strip the state's books of sexist language. References to "his" will be changed to "his or her," college "freshmen" will become "first-year students" and "penmanship" will be called "handwriting."

    — TANNING: Dozens of states this year considered keeping minors out of tanning beds. New Jersey and Nevada restrictions kick in July 1, and an Oregon limit takes effect in January. The home of MTV's reality series "Jersey Shore" and its famously bronzed cast, however, took the law beyond sun lamps to block anyone younger than 14 from getting even a spray tan.....snip~

Many state laws going into effect tomorrow. What are some New laws in your state that you may find strange or interesting. Or that you think all should know about. Any affect others coming from other states?

Kentucky says people can now drink on Election Day in their state. Plus Wyoming is going to have their First State lottery.

It is a good thing for The Jersey Shore that is only physical age and not mental age. Could you imagine those idiots trying to tan naturally during the winter?

Doesn't sound like they're doing anything more than the usual BS intended to appear like actual meaningful activity.

OR so I look at it...meh.

    Rationality returns to summertime.

The darkest day in the history of girl watching was the day the tanning bed was invented.
I am not of the mind that a man is either of science or of religion. At his best and his worst, man exists in the misty glimmering where the falling angel meets the rising ape. That he chooses a direction from that point defines him as human.

I'd bet your politicians still attend events and drum up support, while the government is in recess.

    They're doing something.

Re: News Laws Kick in Around Nation on July 1.....

Indiana 230 New laws go into affect today. I would remind all to check what their own states have implemented. To Be aware is to be alive!

New Indiana laws go into effect July 1st.....

Indiana's new laws take effect starting Friday. In all, more than 230 new laws go into effect aimed at making Indiana a safer and more civil place to live.

Student athletes who suffer a concussion or other serious head injury will now have to sit out and state law mandates they be checked out and cleared by a healthcare professional before returning to play or practice.

City ordinances that prohibit guns in parks will no longer be valid. Cities won't be allowed to dictate where guns can be carried. Firearms will be permitted in most public places except hospitals, courtrooms and schools.

A new public voyeurism law makes it a misdemeanor to take explicit video or pictures of someone without them knowing it. That gets bumped up to a felony if that video or those pictures are posted online.

Drivers beware. You could be fined $500 if you text or e-mail while behind the wheel, even though police admit the law will be difficult to enforce.

See a list of the new laws .....snip~
