Democratic lawmaker hits justice as ‘Uncle Thomas’

Are you suggesting that I'm a sharecropper, because I'm black and from the rural south?

I know how it pisses off Libbos that there are those of us out here in the world that know we can make it all on our own, without your help.

It's why I'm a Republican. The Republicans are more interested in my success than the Democrats.

LOL. Loved the sharecropper comment :2wave: What part of the rural south are you from? Different place than it used to be prior to the 1950s, isn't it? Or is it?

Thomas Sowell, who certainly deserves the Nobel Prize, demonstrates how Liberals assume their own authority and will even lecture a Black man on what it's like to be Black.

We know that people of all colors and classes can be spoiled by getting something for nothing, and what the results often are. The parent who moans when their adult child gets in trouble often says, "I wanted to give him everything I never had". The intentions may have been good, maybe, but the consequences are dreadful.

You two deserve each other ... I'll leave you two alone ...

Maybe you should get out more.

Actually, I was just in Alabama ... I didn't see any folks walking around in bed sheets and funny hats and I didn't see or smell any cross burnings, but I did hear more than my share of racist comments ... but, without question, it has changed ... the cities moreso than the rural areas. Are you from the south?

I've seen that before. Interesting I suspect the delay has nothing to do with the level of detail for the background checks. They merely make it difficult and gut wrenching hoping you will give up. Some of my friends waited over two years before they even looked at their applications. Of course it easy to get one illegally,, which bypasses all the mickey mouse laws and obstacles put in the way of law abiding citizens.

that sucks and shouldn't be - people have the right to own guns if they wish, but I strongly favor universal background check (with some 90% of the pop.), limits on magazine capacity (at least give people a few people a chance to escape or tackle the ahole), and banning certain weapons (Scalia seems to agree with me on that - which, btw, makes me nervous) ...

Do you have a specific disagreement with Dr. Sowells views?

Sowell and I go wayyyyyy back, although I wasn't referring to him (I believe he's at the Hoover Institute now, isn't he?) ... I was referring to the two posters ... as to Sowell, I'm not going to waste my time discussing him on these threads ... he's one of those "cultural deficiency" theorists I don't have much time for ... he in effect argues that blacks are in the position they're in because of their culture - an argument that cons, especially white cons, find very appealing - Let's blame the victim! Yeah, the black guy says it's their fault! But you've seen me take issue with this view in the past Paul ... no need to belabor it anymore. How is he as an economist? I hear he's another Milton Friedman wannabe ... his sociology is not very good (sloppy actually) ... maybe he's better as an economist ...

How on earth can one critique this comment (undeniably tasteless) and proceed to use the term plantation as a rhetorical device? A bit of consistency is in order here.

I'm from Louisiana and I don't know if it's different than the 1950's, or not since I was born in 1968.

What part of the deep south did you grow up in, during the 1950's?

Since when is plantation a racist term?

I love Thomas Sowell's work. He's a great American.

I didn't grow up in the South (but was around for the 50s), but you're a baby apdst ... 1968? Wow ... you really did miss a lot and that helps to explain some of your posts ...

I never saw or even heard of any cross burnings in my parish. What part of the south are you from?

I never saw, or even heard of any cross burnings, either. What part of the south did you grow up in?

What have you read of his? I don't know his work as an economist very well, but when he dabbles in sociology, which is my field, he's not terribly good -- he should stick to what he has his degrees in - economics ...

depends on how it's used ... like the way you used it ...

IOW, it depends on if a Conservative uses it, much like Uncle Tom; if a Libbo says Uncle Tom, it's ok. A Conservative? It's racist.

I already know how the Libbos play the racialist game.

of crap, they never happened? another myth revealed by apdst. Next you're going to tell us that slavery and Jim Crow never took place, aren't you?

I've read quite a few of his editorials. When I was living in Crowley, Louisiana, the local paper carried his editorial in the Sunday paper.

you have no clue how they play it ... I've been around libs a lot ... you give them too much credit ...

smart guy, but he really should stick to economics ...

That's not what I said. Please, tell us you're smarter than that. If you're not, please, let us know and we can stop wasting our time with you.

I should've added that I read Ethnic America and Race and Culture by him, since this was his attempt to do some sociology or anthropology ... not terribly compelling work, but judging from your posts, you'd like them ... good writer though ... but it's not his field ...
